My husband and I had the pleasure of working with the professionals at BPI . Bob and his team were great to work with. The remodel was completed on time and on budget and the outcome surpassed our expectations. Bob takes the time to discuss what is important to you . Bob made suggestions, which we found to be very helpful in modernizing our kitchen, without going over our budget. The process, from design to completion, was smooth. We highly recommend BPI.

It did not go well. It took much longer than it was supposed to. It started 10/31/16 and was "completed" 1/25/17. Quality of work was not worth price. Plans discussed with the owner, Bob, were not done as requested; and when we asked the owner to come to the house he said, he does not go to the house unless he project mgr (his son), David, asks for him to come out. Bob never came out. Lighting was not put up in the proper places. Cabinets were hung up over mold on the wall. When we complained, we were told they can take the cabinet down and we can clean the wall. I have a hideous, very noticable patch on my ceiling where they had to move a ceiling fan, because of their bad measurement. Worst paint job I have ever seen!! Very visible brush marks, blending imperfections. I have paint on my new floor and cabinets and rug. I asked to have 2 drawers added below a cabinet and stated because I need a drawer for silverware. The drawer (one, not two) came back too small to fit silverware in vertically. Doors where chipped during demo. During construction, when we complained about some of the issues, we were told by Bob through an email that the project mgr, David, is aware and will take of it. Shortly after they finished and we called them back, because the newly installed heat leaked into our finished basement, we received the final bill. We told them we were not satisfied with many issues, including some that we already complained about and were told would be taken care of and they were never addressed. We would not recommend this company at all!! I would like to add that we did our homework and checked out reviews and Better Business Bureau before signing the contract. They had good grades.....but don't be fooled like us!!! Their work does not live up to their name....BUILDING PROFESSIONALS.

Unquestionably the worst experience of my life! The owner presents himself very well during initial negotiations but once the job starts and issues arise he becomes passive-aggressive. If you catch something going wrong or that needs changing he often doesn't respond at all to communications until the item under question has progressed beyond the point of no return or requires an expensive change order to implement. You are often forced into engaging with his subcontractors to inform them the item they're working on is currently in dispute, but they haven't been informed and understandably don't wish to be involved. The root cause of the majority of our problems was the owner's poor ability to communicate and resolve conflicts. Lots of poor workmanship - especially towards the end when the relationship had deteriorated. We ended up going to arbitration (which I won) - the whole ordeal was very stressful.
Description of Work: kitchen, laundry and 2.5 bathrooms all gutted and redone. All windows on one side of the house replaced.

The work in general was done quite well. This was a tear down and whole house rebuild. The project started in 2012. The planning and choices and presentation of the trade offs went reasonably well. The tear down was supposed to have started in August of 2013. That slipped to October. That was the first sign of the trouble to come. The short of it is, the work proceeded very slowly. Dates were continually missed. Many details were overlooked, remain to be finished to this day. There is a certain level of detail that of course won't be specified in a contract like this but should be expected to be finished, as a matter of professionalism and completeness. The house took 18 months to be built and the final certification of occupancy wasn't granted until 22 months after the project started. This is a not a big house or a project with many change orders.

Response from Building Professionals Inc
We were unaware of this review, as well as 2 others on Angie's list, until they were pointed out to us on 9/25/17. We are gathering information and expect to have our responses completed within a week. We have all of the documentation for this project and are happy to share it with anyone who requests it. Please call 978-496-1485 if you would like the information The design and planning started in 2012 - this was a custom built home and the owner traveled frequently on business. It was not unusual to speak with him while he was in China, England, or some other country. It is very time consuming to design a custom built home and trying to do it via phone calls and emails made it even more so. "The tear down was supposed to have started in August of 2013." There was never any discussion or comments made about starting the demolition in August. The contract was signed on 7/25/13.Our contract states that work will commence within 15 days of the receipt of the Builder's receipt of all required permits, licenses, etc. The existing house was an old camp that contained, among other hazardous materials, asbestos, that had to be abated before demolition began. The building permit was issued on 10/21/2013. "...the work proceeded very slowly." This is simply not the case. New home construction payments are made based on a draw schedule when certain phases are completed. The list of payments was as follows: Description Amount Inv. date Payment date Deposit $27,000.00 8/16/2013 8/22/2013 Foundation/slabs $30,000.00 10/31/2013 11/6/2013 Change order - enlarge door opening in walk out basement concrete wall 11/4/2013 Rough framing $42,500.00 11/22/2013 12/2/2013 Change order - install plywood in attic for storage space Change order - install additional window in attic Doors, windows, & roofing $30,200.00 12/10/2013 12/16/13 Change order - re-frame 2nd floor bath to accept separate tub & shower - remove existing bath window, close in opening, create new opening, and re-install window. Change order - re-frame 1f hallway Siding $12,300.00 1/21/2014 1/27/14 The siding was delayed because of extreme cold and snow. Please see the link below for weather statistics from that time period. https://www.weatherworksinc.com/winter-statistics-2013-2014 Rough electrical $15,000.00 1/30/2014 2/24/2014 Rough plumbing $15,000.00 2/10/2014 2/24/2014 We were notified by the homeowner via email at 9:45 pm on 2/5/14 what tub had been chosen. The tub had a 2 week lead time. The decision to separate the tub and shower was made back in early December 2013 so the tub selection should have been made sooner. The plumber and electrician had to come back to do additional work and our inspections were delayed. Rough HVAC $15,000.00 3/5/2014 3/8/2014 Change order pt.2 $5,373.63 4/9/2014 4/17/2014 2nd floor bath - drop in tub framing, shower framing, tub and shower rough plumbing with 3 shower valves, heads, diverters etc, heated tub electrical circuit. Change order 4/1/2014 - Add central air conditioning Insulation $5,000.00 4/9/2014 4/17/2014 Change order - add cabinet above range hood Blueboard/plaster $10,000.00 5/6/2014 5/27/2014 Cabinets, painting, $18,000.00 6/25/2014 7/3/2014 interior trim Change order - add insulation in basement walk-out wall Change order - add concrete pad and electrical circuit for hot tub The counter tops were not selected until 7/19/2014 The plumbing fixtures were not selected until 7/26/2014 and several of the items had extended lead times - the fixture order did not arrive until 10/2/2014 The flooring was not selected until late August (approximate) The final invoice for $41,876.66 was issued on 11/18/2014 and paid on 12/12/14 "Many details were overlooked, remain to be finished to this day." The client has never contacted us about any items that were overlooked or unfinished. If there were overlooked/unfinished items why did he pay his final invoice? If there were overlooked/unfinished items why didn't he mention them in July of 2015,(2 months before this review was written) when the water supply hose to his dishwasher let go and ruined the hardwood flooring in the kitchen - which we replaced at no cost, under warranty, within a week of him notifying us. As is shown above, the house did not take 18 months to build, but rather 12. A full month was lost to weather and 2 1/2 - 3 months because we did not have the product information we needed to continue. There were 10 change orders, several of which were significant. If a client is unable to make decisions in a timely manner it obviously effects the progress of the project. If we are unable to continue to work productively we must move on to other projects, which we did. It was unreasonable for him to expect us to drop everything and go back when he was ready for us. He is correct that the final certificate of occupancy was not issued until the spring of 2015, however a temporary occupancy permit had been granted and he moved in to the house. The reason for this was that the septic as-built plan revealed that the pipe from the septic tank to the distribution box was pitched more steeply than the plans called for. Because of this the the health dept. wanted a "velocity reducing tee" installed in the distribution box. They made their request after the ground had frozen and we had received significant snowfall. I asked if it could be done in the spring and they agreed to the temporary occupancy permit. BPI has been in business for 23 years and has many faithful clients that call us repeatedly to work on their homes and refer us happily to family, friends, co-workers, etc. We will gladly supply an extensive list of satisfied clients to anyone who wishes to work with us. Thank you for your consideration, Robert LaFleur, President, BPI
