Where to start... there were so many red flags in the process that it was an easy decision to pass on RGS and choose another vendor. In no particular order: 1. Vendor contacted me through a webinar, and did not come to see the property or discuss this face to face. For a $40K project I'd expect them to spend an hour or two with me, see the house, check the roof, etc. - not just share a powerpoint presentation with a rudimentary and completely off proposal. 2. The presentation was full of inaccuracies, such as claiming that electricity rates go up 6-7% annually. The actual number is closer to 4%, and other vendors were using numbers in the 3.5-4.5 range. This makes a big difference when computing the time it takes to return the investment. 3. When asked about financing, the salesman offered an amazing loan with 2.99% interest. When I checked the numbers, it turned out that he also added 10% on the total sum which he neglected to mention. I compared with amortization tables and found out the loan is more like 6%. 4. When I asked to get an actual proposal, the salesman sent me a 22 page (!) contract to sign, which he claimed was just so they can come over and make an offer. He claimed I'd be able to withdraw from the contract for any reason. I read that document in disbelief. At page 18 it says that I'm bound by that contract and can only make minor modifications and corrections. Needless to say, I did not sign that contract. The two other vendors I talked with both showed up, prepared a detailed proposal based on the actual property (without asking me to sign anything), and had a 5-6 page contact for signing for the installation if I choose to go with them. At least judging by this one sales guy, I would stay away from this company and would not trust any claim they make, be it about objective facts (electricity price), legal documents, or math.

Other companies came to my house. RGS does a phone interview, but made me sit through a 40 minute video work-up of the project. The software was not working at one point. It was a lot of watching the "sausage being made", which I really didn't need. When I received the proposal, there was no listed PBI. When I emailed the person who helped me, he responded "The incentive is listed as a yearly amount on the second page of your proposal under RI FIT Payments", which I would not have been able to figure out. Other businesses had it clearly listed. Plus, I had told him up front that I was interested in the PBI program, not net-metering, but he kept mentioning net-metering.

Installation went smoothly - including their installation team having to shovel off over 4' of snow from the roof. Very friendly and accommodating, non intrusive install.
Description of Work: RGS came in after Solar City and Vivant to really explain the differences and advantages of owning the system vs. leasing. As well, their prices were much better and made owning with the Federal rebates and SRECs that are available in MA worth while. They installed a 12KVA system.

Description of Work: They replaced 1 casement window in the Kitchen, 2 Awning windows in living room, and sliding windows in our potting area at the back of the garage. Their work was very good, what we hadn't counted on was how much the actual window glass size was decreased due to the replacement window casings. We want as much sunlight as possible, and the replacement windows cut back on that. Actually for the kitchen and living room we didn't need true replacement windows, but needed to buy new sashes which were much less expensive. The windows they put on the garage are beautiful and work very well. They also replaced a patio door with a fiberglass patio door which has been great also. Their work is good, and quality materials were used, but quite expensive. These windows will last for many years I am sure, and they are a quality product.

Description of Work: Do not use RGS Energy. There are plenty of other solar providers to choose from. Ultimately, after getting initial price and some initial evaluation, we decided not to proceed with finalizing a contract. Good thing as this company is NOT responsive at all. Are great when they think they have you as a prospective client, but after watch out. Have needed to recoup a small deposit, and am still wrestling with the company to obtain. Do not use RGS Energy under any circumstance.

The experience has been fine so far. We started requesting an estimate in June, and they came out, and surveyed the roof, they did the proposal for us, we went ahead with that, and we had some trees taken down as a result of the roof survey to improve efficiency. They came back out after that was done, and resurveyed the roof. They are in the permit process, and they are getting in touch with the electrical company, so we will get them installed sometime this fall. I thought they did a good job of getting back to me whenever I had a question, and the quotation and survey work was done promptly. People showed up when they were supposed to. I had dealt with another solar company, and when I called them, they looked at the roof from an online picture, and they didn't even want to come out. They thought the house was too shady to provide solar energy. I thought RGS Energy was interested in my business, and they came out right away.
Description of Work: They gave us an estimate for putting solar panels up. They are in the permit process.

From the start, RGS was very responsive and informative as we went through the process for installing solar panels on our house and garage. We herd about them through a presentation at my place of work. In fact, several of my colleagues also used RGS to install solar panels too. It did take some time to get the system installed from the time we signed the contract to installation to actually turning on the system, but they were very upfront with the time frame right from the start. RGS was very easy to deal with and very responsive. The energy company, who we actually have a contract with for the power, wasn't quite as easy to work with, but the RGS folks helped us and made up for their blunders. Overall, we are very happy with solar and RGS and would highly recommend them.

In 2006 we installed solar panels. We originally purchased them from Kosmo Solar which was bought by Alteris in 2008. We have been very pleased with the energy savings from our solar array. We have had very few issues with them until the snow and ice load from this past winter caused four of them to be damaged. Sarah stated that it would probably take anywhere from six to eight weeks before the panels would be replaced. I was pleased that Alteris responded and did a professional job.
Description of Work: Alteris replaced four storm damaged panels. We contacted them the first week in April. Dan their representative responded quickly inspected our array and said he would give the information to the home office. He said that I should hear back from them within a couple of weeks and if I didn't hear from them to give them a call. I called and talked with Sarah. Sarah said that Evergreen would be honoring the warranty and would be replacing the panels as soon as they located my make and model. We had the panels installed in 2006. Sarah responded with both emails and telephone calls to keep me informed. She was thorough and very professional. In July the Alteris crew came and replaced the four panels.

I went out and got 3 quotes for a home solar system. Alteris' team from the initial contact , to the office folks and finally installers have been the most professional helpful and best value I could have imagined. Extremely thorough in setting expectation, outlining the plan then executing it. I have not had this positive of experience with any contractor or service in 10 years as a homeowner.
Description of Work: Amazing service and support from beginning to end. Alteris designed a Solar PV layout for my home, provided financial alternatives in which I finally chose to use SunRun (whom they work with ) to turn a $26k investment into a $500 easy decision...

We contacted a few different companies and got quotes, but we were particularly impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of the Alteris rep, and the large number of installations they have done in the northeast. This is a class operation, they communicated every step of the way - they coordinated everything, state rebate forms, permits, city/electrical inspections, communication with the local utility, etc. They provided detailed architectual drawings prior to the start of the job, and assigned a install/project manager to us. They did a professional looking job installing the product, cleaned everything up after install, demonstrated how to operate the system etc. I couldn't be happier with the system and the quality of the products they use and would recommend them to anyone looking for a PV system. I am also willing to show anyone our system/installation located in Woburn, MA.
Description of Work: We had a complete photovoltaic system installed on the roof of our new home. Our system has 3 inverters located in the attic, and 38 black SunPower solar panels (225watt each) , the system is rated at 8.55 kWatts. Our system is a 'net metering' system, meaning our system feeds the power grid and NStar buys our excess solar generated electricity.
