Diligent Builders

Al was a real gentleman and consulted with us respectfully at every stage. He worked with us on all technical, aesthetic and budgetary matters. He managed all the permitting and inspection complexities. He told us what he would do and when, and then he did it. He was very sensitive to our parking and scheduling needs and never inconvenienced us. The weather was uncooperative but that did not deter Al. We discovered him on a stormy Thanksgiving morning scampering about on our highest roof ridge, checking that his tarps were secured against the gale. Mature bushes close against the house made it hard for his crew to optimally place drop cloths and ladders, but "casualties" were few. Al cheerfully repaired a broken window and had his men pick up (by hand) every errant nail and bit of debris in the yard until even my wife was satisfied. Both the asphalt shingle and rubber roofs Diligent Builders laid down are holding tight and look pretty good. Thanks to Al's conscientiousness - and yes, diligence, our 18th century home should last another few decades. For the weeks that Al and his associates were with us, they came to seem like trusted family. I have 2 suggestions for anyone who decides to have Al roof their house. First, DO engage with him and discuss his plans and results. He takes great pride in his work and his natural desire is to make you happy. Second, if you value your cardiac health, DO NOT spend too much time watching him defy gravity - like a Flying Wallenda working without a net! We're still recounting stories about Al and his Diligent Builders years later!
