Awesome Landscape Design

Description of Work: In June 2012 I purchased $299 Groupon for $1000 worth of Masonry work with Awesome Landscape & Masonry (I always try to use local businesses whenever feasible and was excited that this place was both nearby and was running a great offer at the time). After at least a half a dozen phone calls I finally was able to schedule the masonry work with Leonardo & Awesome Landscape & Masonry in July 2012. The job was very straightforward-I had a number of bluestone treads on my steps that were loose (dangerous) and needed to be re-set (stabilized). The work was done in a few hours-and I gave them the Groupon. Fast forward approximately 6-8 weeks later and 1-2 of the steps (that had been re-set by Awesome) became loose again. Now I understand I used a Groupon here, but shouldn't their masonry work last longer than approximately 6-8 weeks? Another half dozen phone calls & voicemails left (extremely frustrating) and one month later, Leonardo (who I presumed to be the owner?) came out to look at the step(s) which were visibly loose. He agreed to "send someone out to fix it". As promised, the second repair happened within a few weeks (this is why I didn't give an F rating)...I get that mistakes can happen and was trying allow Awesome the opportunity to "get it right". Exactly 10 months later (June 2013) five of the bluestone treads (steps) became loose again! Having loose steps is not just a cosmetic thing, it is a hazard and a liability for most homeowners. Having to deal with this same problem for the third time within a one-year span is extremely frustrating. Finally, in exasperation, I bit the bullet and called a mason who I knew would do a good job to fix my steps: TK masonry out of Rochdale, MA 1-508-892-8983. I had used Tim Kennedy before (he built my retaining wall 13 years ago) but for financial reasons last year I ended up going with the cost-effective Groupon offer (lesson learned: you get what you pay for). Tim Kennedy came by to check out the steps - I saw that when Tim lifted the bluestone treads (literally lifted by hand), that there was absolutely NO mortar, mortar adhesive or any kind bonding agent at all under the steps-it was just some kind of sand material (or perhaps some kind of leveling sand?) but definitely nothing that the blue-stone treads could adhere to in the long term. Bottom line: I got a lousy job that ultimately I had to pay a professional to fix. My advice: use Tim Kennedy masonry in the future - my retaining wall has been rock solid for 13 years. My steps that Awesome Landscape and Masonry did? Their work lasted 10 months (plus infinite headaches) - 'nuff said.

Description of Work: The workmanship and finished product was absolutely fantastic. We had a walkway extended and a circular fireplace with additional stone wall seating installed.
