Called this company on a Sunday at 4pm because my furnace stopped working and I had no heat. I was connected to an answering service operator who kept putting me on hold. She eventually took my name, address & phone #, but then informed me that nobody could come out that same day. What?!? So much for McNeill's "24 hour emergency service"! The woman then said that someone would call me back when they open in the morning at 8am. That call never came! McNeill is a JOKE - DO NOT USE THEM!!!

They did an excellent job. They did what they said was going to be done and I had no issues. I did have concerns about MassSave rebates and they took care of what I needed and everything worked out, I appreciate that.

The owner was very good when first inquiring about a new system. He was knowledgable about what we wanted and provided a good quote. We were using the MassSave program and his staff was very professional and helpful with the paperwork requirements. When the install was scheduled all personnel arrived on time and were efficient with their time on site. We are happy with our new system. The only disappointment was that the owner did not follow-up with us after the install. It would have been nice for the owner to come by and check if we were happy with everything.

I got three estimates for this service, and this company's was both the lowest and the most comprehensive. Jim, the company owner, came out very quickly after I called, dropped off a written estimate, and then followed up. He was polite and professional. I dropped off the deposit check at the office to confirm what kind of a business they had, and the office people were pleasant. The first visit, to measure for the new unit, was on time, efficient and I felt comfortable with the workers they sent. The installation visit went great. They were on time, introduced themselves, explained what the job would entail, and were considerate in how they worked, leaving the area clean. They removed and replaced a railing to get the old unit out as I had told them they could. If I had one tiny suggestion, it would have been nice for the lead guy to introduce other people when they came on to the job, for example the electrician showed up in my kitchen asking where the thermostat was, and I had no idea who he was. But that all worked out fine. After the unit was put in I wasn't as happy. On the one hand, it's quiet and delivers lots of heat in a hurry. But first of all, within a few days, the duct in the kitchen was making a big racket. I pulled off the grate, and a double fist sized square chunk of styrofoam wrapped in cardboard got spit out in to the kitchen. It looked like it was a piece of the packing material that had been accidentally left in the ducting and because the blower is powerful, blew it up into the riser to the kitchen. It was an easy fix, but not everyone is a little bit handy and could easily take the grate apart. But really, no big deal and I would never have mentioned it had not the following happened. Within two weeks, the unit stopped working. A red light was blinking, and according to the card on the unit is was OK to try to reset it, so I did, but that didn't work. It was as if the combustion blower would come on, but no fire would occur. I called the company, and someone came out that day (Tuesday) and got it started, which was great because it was below freezing and I had no heat. The tech told me I needed a check valve because air was getting into the line. Apparently the new unit draws harder on the fuel tank and they had not realized during installation that the old system had an unusual fuel feed that wasn't compatible with the new system. Someone called me from the office and said a tech would be out Friday morning to do the work. OK, no problem, I had heat at that point. The tech called me Friday at 11AM to say that they had gotten behind, and could he reschedule for the next day (Saturday). I said there was no need to come on the weekend as the unit hadn't shut off since the visit on Tuesday. We agreed he would call me Monday morning. Unfortunately, Friday evening the unit stopped working again. I got by over the weekend with space heaters, and waited for a call on Monday morning. When none came by noon, I called, explained I had no heat, and was told they could send someone out Tuesday evening, 36 hours from then. By then it was 61 degrees in the house even with the space heaters. Tuesday evening two techs arrived on time. At one point I was asked to turn up the thermostat, and did so gladly. I went downstairs to put wash in, and the lead tech asked, and quot; How has the unit been working for you?and quot; At first I didn't even think he was talking to me becasue the question made no sense. When I finally said, and quot;It hasn't been working at all! I haven't had any heat since Friday. I was waiting for you folks to come and put a check valve in, because I was told that's what it needed. He (the lead tech) repeated, astonished, and quot;No heat since Friday?and quot; I replied that I had let the office know, so I was surprised he didn't know the unit wasn't working at all. To his credit, he was loyal to the office and made no comment. So in sum, I think the work, when done, is very good and the price was right. I can't fault them for not knowing the system would need a check valve, but then I'm ignorant about these things. Their workers seem really good, competent and friendly and professional and they worked neatly, apologizing for the little bit of oil spilled and the new unit odor, reassuring me it would go away in a few days which it did. I had no problem with the phone call saying that they needed to reschedule the valve installation, my unit was working again then. But I am NOT happy that the office didn't communicate to the tech that my system was down. I am also not happy that they didn't prioritize a no heat call when it was 35 out above routine calls and let me go for another two days without heat for a total of four days. I'd have to say on balance that I give the owner and the techs an A, but the office a C, leaving a net result of my B rating.
