S.D Painting Co

This was the second time we used S.D. Painting for the building plus they painted all rooms of my unit on a separate occasion. Spiros is personable, the ultimate professional, and a perfectionist. His helper Ephron was a perfectionist as well. While preparing the decks, Spiros noticed that other boards (in addition to one on each of the decks) needed replacing, and he went ahead and did that (for no additional cost). In addition, they painted four wooden planters in the back of the building (none of which were included in the quote). They always showed up when they said they would, and cleaned up everything at the end of each day. They even cleaned the outside of the windows. S.D. Painting is absolutely the BEST, and I would recommend them to anyone who expects quality work. Our building looks absolutely wonderful and puts the others in the neighborhood to shame! We have already spoken to Spiros about replacing railroad ties and painting everything in the front garden.

The estimate was scheduled very quickly and once we committed to the project, he gave regular updates regarding when the painting would begin. They began on time. The quality of the painting is outstanding. They even painted more trim than was in the estimate, when they saw something that could use some paint. Also, Spiros was very pleasant and agreeable when changes were requested. They cleaned up every day. They were so quiet, you didn't even know they were in the house. The professionalism and quality were superior - I can't say enough about Spiros and his company.

Spiros arrived for the estimate on time and spent considerable time reviewing our needs. He made recommendations on what work needed to be done and what didn't. He gave advice on colors and paint. We received the quote promptly via e-mail. Since the paint job was to be completed after a new was installed so the job had a time dependency. Spiros was very flexible on schedule since we had to postpone the start due to delay in flooring delivery. The job was completed in four days, as expected. The work was impeccable - thorough with an incredible attention to detail. They team did a very thorough job in the prep phase. Spiros is a perfectionist and the completed job reflected this attitude. The clean up every day was thorough. They also took considerable care in doing all necessary touch up (which was minimal). We couldn't be happier with the work. The professionalism and quality of work displayed by Spiros and his team exceeded all our expectations. We would use S D Painting in a heart beat and have referred them to friends and co-workers. If there were Academy Awards for Construction Companies, S D Painting would deserve a "Best in Class" Oscar.

My mother asked me to get prices to repaint the front porch and back porch steps of her house. The paint was peeling, some back stair treads had rotted, and the front porch columns were coming apart at the seams (literally). I solicited bids from three painters who were listed in Angie's list and had "A" ratings, withing a reasonable distance of Dedham. i made the calls requesting bids on 9/22/2011. in each case i made it clear that a combination of carpentry and painting was required. We also said we were looking to have the work done this Fall. I received three bids over the next 10 days or so. S. D. Painting came out to see the work site on September 22 and submitted their bid by email on 9/30. I made one or two follow-up calls before i received their bid, which is why I was tempted to give him a "B" on punctuality. Otherwise he was timely in his work so I changed it back to an A. After reviewing the bids, i attempted to hire the lowest bidder, but they reported that they were too busy to take on the job in the remaining time before winter. The contractor said that he had been engaged on other work in the time between when he submitted his bid and when we made out decision. (In retrospect I should have moved more quickly. I waited too long for one of the bidders to respond. It then turned out that the last bid was much higher than the others anyway.) S. D. Painting Co. was the second lowest bidder. My mother agreed to hire him at his higher price if they were available. I called them on October 11, and they agreed to do the work. (I rated his price a "B" only because his bid was significantly higher than the lowest bidder's.) Work began on October 17 or 18. (I am uncertain because unfortunately I was out of town on a business trip during most of that week.) When I first saw the work on Friday, October 21, the rear porch stairs had been repaired and painted, the front porch columns had been repaired, and porch painting was underway. Mr. Delavouras explained to me how the porch columns had been repaired. The porch roof had been jacked up slightly so that the column bases could be removed and replaced with new wood. (The bid called for replacement of two bases, but Mr. Dalavouras pointed out that he actually replaced three of them.) The split columns were clamped and glued together, and wooden dowels inserted near the bottom to pin the sides together. In my judgment, the column repairs seem to have been done very thoroughly, and Mr. Dalavouras was very keen to show what he had done and seemed proud of it. The porch painting did not look as good as I had hoped because the surfaces remained irregular. Old paint was not entirely removed in many places. The painter explained that on the columns by saying that a previous repair had involved Bondo, which was extremely hard and difficult to remove. That makes sense, but it did not explain why so much of the porch railing had a similar appearance. However, I have seen this sort of appearance before on old houses. The porch surfaces certainly had several previous coats. Originally, I gave his quality rating a "B" partly because of this. But the painter pointed out that he had not quoted to take down the painted surface to bare wood, which would have been necessary to eliminate all the "alligatoring" but also would have been more costly. After reconsideration, i have changed the quality rating to an A. Also, originally i marked down the quality grade because i misunderstood his answer to a question when i asked him if he had put on two top coats. i understood him to say he had only done one, but he had done two. i was out of town during most of the work and had not witnessed the painting directly. My mother is extremely pleased. She thinks the porches look good and is apparently not bothered by the irregular surfaces. in addition, she said that the painters were extremely polite, easy to work with, and cleaned up after themselves well. In addition, they did some extra work at no additional charge. The work was completed on October 22. When Mr. Dalavouras was in my mother's house at some point, he noticed the stained ceiling tiles in the dining room. They had been damaged by water leaking through a bay window roof in last winter's heavy snow. I had tried to find matching tiles but had been unable to. The painter offered to replace the damaged tiles, and my mother agreed. He returned on November 11 and installed the replacement tiles. My mother was extremely pleased to have the damaged ceiling repaired. The added charge was $50, which we all agreed was quite reasonable. (I would put this work into the handyman's category.) Overall, my mother was extremely pleased with the work and enjoyed dealing with Mr. Dalavouras. He did the work on time, and my mother appreciated that he took care of the ceiling tiles. I was torn between an A and a B for the overall rating because of how pleased my mother is (and she is actually the customer). After reviewing Mr. Dalavouras's comments on the initial report, i have given him an "A."

SD exceeded my expectations. Spiros and his crew worked tirelessly to prepare the surface of our house, including a full day and a half of patching and caulking that could easily have been reduced to a half-day if they wanted to wrap up my house quickly and move on to the next job. Throughout the process (from estimate to final coat) Spiros was an unusually good and patient communicator, taking the time to answer my questions and address my concerns. Thanks again to SD for a wonderful job.

They did an excellent job! The owner helped us pick out paint and even recommended what colors would look good. They always showed up on time & worked quickly and were finished when they said they would be. They covered all our furniture with tarps & cleaned up every night before the left. It was the best experience I have ever had with a contractor, I would highly recommend them!

We cannot be happier with the work done by Spiros and his associates. Our house was built in 1908 and we have 2 young kids. We lived in the very next room where the work was done. At first, I was worried about the dust and smell. However, after reading other Angies' list members reviews, we decided to contact SD painting. I called them on Saturday and received a call back within 24 hours. Spiros stopped by the very next day to take a look at the work and gave us a quote. He is honest and reasonable. Our ceiling had cracks and prior to Spiros, we received a quote from another contractor who said the entire ceiling needs to be redone and gave us an astronomical quote. Luckily, we found SD painting. After they did the work, our rooms look fantastic. With our old house, we are bound to find a lot of issues and Spiros took care of it one by one, without complaints... all he said was, "No problem." As for the dust issue, Spiros and his associates cleaned up every night... mopping the floor, vaccuming the dust and they covered all our furniture and even inside the closets. We could not have asked for more. I definitely will use SD painting again.

Spiros was extremely prompt, responsive, and reliable. He came by for an estimate within 48 hours of when we contacted him and ended up fixing our front door, which wouldn't lock, just as a favor. He had an estimate to us within a few days. Getting estimates from other painters was not nearly so easy, but we felt compelled to do comparison shopping.Turned out that the estimate from SD was the most reasonable, which was great since we liked Spiros best on a personal level and felt confident about having him do the interior painting while we were away on vacation. Just before we left town he came over to make sure that we were ok with colors and to get a key, but he wouldn't actually take a down payment until he started the job. So we arranged to leave a check for him to pick up once work had begun. We came back to a transformed house. The plaster and paint look great and SD did a good job of cleaning up and putting furniture back and evening artwork back on the walls. Spiros emailed us before we returned to let us know that all was finished except the front door, which he came back to do a few days later. At that point, Spiros checked in with us on the rest of the paint job and did some fixes for us: one was a section of slanted wall that we realized would look better painted white like the ceiling rather than the wall color; another entailed fixing some scrapes in the new paint left when a visiting relative used our futon. We felt really fortunate—Spiros did this extra work cheerfully and at no extra cost. All in all this was an extremely positive experience.

The company was responsive and provided the service needed in the time frame promised and at the quote price. Assiduously cleaned up after completion. Very happy with the work and will use this company in the future.

They were competitive. They were very clean. They were neat and cleaned up perfectly every day. I would recommend them. They were very accurate with the estimate.

We had new windows installed through out our home and needed to get the interiors primed and painted. A very detailed job best left to the professionals. After receiving several bids for the work, we felt that SD had a fair price (not the cheapest) and comments from others on Angie's List made us comfortable that they would be up for this task. It was a slow job for the crew but they put in a nice effort, the job came out great, and we are pleased.

SD Painting is the best. The first time I worked with them I got quotes from several companies. SD Painting was comperable to the others. They were so good that I have rehired them several times. They are everything you would want. They do an excellent job, they do more than what you ask of them for no additional price, they are very clean and professional. I will always hire SD Painting for any work I have done in the future. Visitors to my house always comment on the beautiful job they did.

They were very quick to respond to my call. They were out the very next day to give an estimate. They had the work done into two days because it was a rental property that to be insured. I live out of state so it was good that they did that.

We needed the quarter rounds around all of the door casings which required them to cut and install tiny pieces to fit all the corners. The job they did was meticulous and we were so pleased with the results. The prepping and painting they did was also extremely well done. Our wood work had lots of chipping paint and rough spots and it looks so much better now. We also asked Spiros to do a bunch of other smaller jobs, like hang a new closet door, trim down other doors which were sticking, and put up a shelf and hook for an antique clock. It was wonderful to have someone who could seemingly effortlessly take care of all of our little odd jobs. We would absolutely hire SD Painting again.

Spiros responded right away to my phone call and came the next day to give me an estimate. The written estimate arrived two days after our appointment. I did not seek other estimates, as our condo association had used his company about three years ago to paint the common areas and we were very impressed with his work. Spiros and his helper arrived each day at 8:00AM and stayed until 4-4:30. They did an absolutely beautiful job, and Spiros even helped me choose colors. He is personable and a true professional. They took down drapes and put up the same, and hung over 30 pictures for me. They cleaned up every day and made the whole process easy for me. I would give him the highest recommendation. As a side note, Spiros came each day even when he wasn't feeling well.

WE FELT LIKE HE DID MORE THAN WHAT WAS ASKED FOR. HE INSTALLED FIXTURES AND HE EVEN FIXED OUR GARAGE DOOR THAT HAD A BROKEN SPRING; HE REPAIRED IT WITHOUT CHARGE. HE WAS GREAT. ON THE PAINTING IT TOOK THREE COATS TO COVER THE OLD PAINT AND IT WAS A GREAT JOB.

Exceptionally fastidious work. Cleaned up every night after their work, then recovered everything the next morning for 4 days straight. Made our kitchen walls look like new even before he painted them. Stayed with his quote even though he discovered wall paper he didn't expect. Absolutely great job.

SPIROS VISITED QUICKLY TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE, ABLE TO ARRANGE HIS SCHEDULE TO COME WHEN WE NEEDED HIM. HE AND THE OTHER CREW MEMBERS WERE POLITE, EFFICIENT, CLEANED UP EFFECTIVELY EACH DAY AND AT END OF PAINTING. SPIROS HIMSELF WAS THERE AND CLEARLY IN CHARGE AND WORKING EACH DAY. HE WAS FLEXIBLE AND ABLE TO ADD SOME ADDITIONAL PAINTING THAT WE HAD NOT ORIGINALLY REQUESTED. HANDLING OF OUR FURNITURE WAS CAREFUL. PAINT LINES ARE BEAUTIFUL AND THE JOB LOOKS GREAT. HE ALSO AGREED TO COME BACK FOR SOME TOUCH UP AFTER OTHER UPCOMING WORK ON THE FLOORS. WE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE DELIGHTED WITH SPIROS AND THE WORK OF HIS COMPANY.

SPIROS RESPONDED TO MY INITIAL CALL RIGHT AWAY, AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE & THE ESTIMATE ARRIVED IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. HIS WAS THE FIRST OF THREE ESTIMATES AND A CONDO MEETING HAD TO BE SET UP TO GO OVER THE ESTIMATES (TOOK SEVERAL WEEKS). HE STAYED WITH THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE, EVEN THOUGH MORE THAN 30 DAYS HAD PASSED. THE PAINTING WAS METICULOUS AND HE & HIS HELPER CLEANED UP EVERY DAY. SPIROS EVEN REPLACED LIGHT BULBS & CLEANED GLOBES. THEY ALWAYS ARRIVED ON SCHEDULE AND THE WORK WAS COMPLETED IN THE ALLOTTED TIME. SPIROS WAS A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH AND I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM WITHOUT HESITATION.

SPIROS PAINTED SEVERAL ROOMS IN OUR BASEMENT AS WELL AS THE FLOOR AND STAIRS. HE DID A GREAT JOB. THE BASEMENT WAS A COMPLETE MESS BEFORE AND NOW IT LOOKS VERY CLEAN. HE TOOK CARE WITH THE JOB AND WAS UPSET THAT HE COULDN'T MAKE IT LOOK BETTER (IT IS A BASEMENT AFTER ALL). HE'S VERY PROMPT AND PLEASANT. I'D DEFINITELY HAVE HIM WORK FOR US AGAIN.

SPIROS WAS PUNCTUAL AND COURTEOUS AND DID A GOOD JOB. THE PRICE WAS FAIR; $600 LESS THAN AN ESTIMATE QUOTED BY ANOTHER PAINTER, AND WAS NOT INCREASED EVEN THOUGH THE JOB TOOK LONGER THAN HE EXPECTED. THEY WERE CAREFUL TO CLEAN UP EVERY DAY.
