We were able to schedule an appt in a reasonable time. Mr. Hernandez came on time, listened carefully and actively to our needs, provided sound advise. We hired him immediately and he provided us with drawings very quickly. Mr. Hernandez is extremely knowledgeable and a consummated professional. He came to our house couple of times and worked with us until we were completely satisfied. I recommend Mr. Hernandez to anyone looking for professional work, someone reliable and reasonable. You will be in good hands.

Ivan created several renovation concepts for us to consider and then designed a second floor laundry room that made use of a former sewing room and part of the adjacent office / bedroom. In the end we got a great laundry room and an improved office / bedroom! We were able to have several contractors bid on his plans. We selected one we liked and were delighted with the work product. Ivan's work was reasonably priced and saved us numerous headaches and cost as we moved the project forward.

We could not have been happier with Ivan. He goes above and beyond to provide a great solution for what we need.

Mr. Hernandez told us that the cost of adding a dormer was 25K so I was hoping to pay no more than 55K for the project. I will add the roof next year. Mr. Hernandez did a great job with the plans. He spent time listening to my needs.

Sabino took over the project from another architect. We found Sabino on Angie's List and he had glowing references (I couldn't get them off the phone!). His price was incredibly reasonable and he is one of the most respectable and kindest people I have ever met! We had a fabulous experience with Sabino and would hire him again in a heartbeat. Our contractor (Mattos) also really liked him and started recommending him to other clients. I don't know how often that happens, but I don't think it's terribly common (most contractors have trouble dealing with new architects). Sabino caught several errors made by the original architect and came up with many solutions for other problems. Newton's Historical Commission did not like the original architect's design, so Sabino helped us figure out what they wanted to see and made it become a reality (all the neighbors approve too!). Sabino came over whenever he was called during the construction phase and never even charged us (we were expecting a rather hefty bill!). He's the kind of person you need to reward for being so generous and helpful!!! If we ever need an architect in the future, we will be calling Sabino.

It was a pleasure working with Ivan. He is professional, courteous, prompt, and flexible. His price was about a third of what architects wanted to charge - he was a very good value. He does not use the most up to date drawing techniques or computers, he does his drawings by hand. I feel this is adequate for most jobs. He provides good, basic design work, is familiar with the codes, and can provide everything your contractor needs to complete your project. He met with us on a regular basis and was quite flexible to accommodate our schedules.He listened to what we wanted and gave good advice. He's a hard worker, and was prepared for our meetings. He does not tend to get too involved in finishes (tile choices, etc.) like some architects would. This was fine with us - those are personal choices. He directed us to good tile stores, window showrooms, and a good kitchen design person.

Sabino was recommended by a contractor. His personality is easy going and pleasant to work with. He listened to our needs and assisted us develop our final plans. We solved several problems and issues which we had not been able to get doneHe helped us weigh the difference on options including brick and slate, flat roof etcHe always found a great solution in a timely manner. We would recommend Sabino again.

It was a pleasure working with Ivan. He is so very creative and can look at a space and see the potential.He has an eye for design and came up with several ideas on the spot.When it came time to design the plans, he provided four options, all so different and varied. We chose probably the option which was in the middle of difficulty and yet changing the entire look and feel of the spaces. Ivan not only added a lovely buest bathroom, changed an existing bath into our Master Bath, planned for a laundry closet on the second floor, changed the second floor landing to have more character by angling the entrance into the bedroom and taking a tiny room and converting it into a open space thatis at the top of the stairway and opens up the whole floor with light. People have commented on how bright the area is now and we have had so many comments on the layout of the entire job. Ivan took a boring four-bedroom, one small bathroom and transformed it into a thing of beauty.He is very responsive and has come to the rescue at a moment's notice when conflicts arose with the general contractor. ivan was able to set the crew straight and make them understand his reasons for his designs.I could go on and on, but the main points I want to make is that we could not have done this project without Ivan. From start tofinish, he was patient, courteous, knowledgeable about codes and overall a delight to work with. When the last drop of paint goes on the wall, we'll be thinking of our first floor needs and most definitely call Ivan. I cannot thank him enough for all his creative work!

They were timely and professional.In the end, we decided we wanted an architect to help us think through the design, especially since this involves the facade of the house.

He came on time, he lookedat our basement and attick, and talked about what could and could not be done to make them habitable, and which provided the better payback. If we decide to goforward I will ask him for a bid.

We started with Mr Hernandez in May 2011 and completed in April 2012. We initial went through 3-4 options. In August 2011 we put the rough plans out for a reality check with 2-3 contractors to see if we were in our budget. As suspected we had gone over budget. The next series of talks were to prioritize our list of must haves and like to have so we could reduce the price down. We also learned certain architecture requests we made were increasing the price without providing much actual benefit (a basement, orientation of the addition). With Mr Hernandez help we worked through these issues and came up with a very reasonable design within our budget. By performing the design up front we avoided any builder change requests later. For our needs; we chose email with drawing pdf attachments and phone calls with Mr Hernandez. During the final phases we were having more face to face meetings. We have put the design out to bid and Mr Hernandez worked with us to distribute the design documents to the contractors. IMHO, having Mr Hernandez in our corner has been a HUGE win for us. From being able to chose premium materials where we wanted them (doors, windows etc) and ensuring all MA state codes are met (or exceeded) was worth every penny spent on home design services. The plans were also reviewed, stamped and signed by an independent structural engineer firm.

He bent over backwards to help us out, exceeding all of our needs with what we want to do to the house. I was talking to him yesterday, reviewing questions about the construction. I have already paid him, he doesn't have to talk to me. He says just call back if there are any problems. He was really good. We liked him so much we have friends we recommended him to.

Great, I spoke with Ivan who was extremely friendly, professional and courteous. He is extremely busy and could not fit me in for a few months, however he gave me a referral to someone that could help me.

I called to get planning advise for a future project. Even after telling them that we would not be doing the work now they agreed to come over and advise. This was greatly appreciated and we will definately consider them when we actually start work.

I can't say enough good things about Ivan/Sabino. He is beyond courteous, respectful, listens very carefully to what you want/need in your home and takes the time to get it right. He provided multiple sketches of options for remodeling a home built in 1895 and for a new addition. We originally wanted a 2-story addition, but when the cost estimates were prohibitive, he very willingly redrew sketches for a single-story addition. We are so happy with our "new" home, which is very open on the 1st floor, has a properly laid-out bathroom now and is still full of light despite deleting a kitchen window for the new addition. He even filed our plans for us so that the contractor could get to work sooner.Others have already said this, but I will repeat it: Ivan is terrific, and you cannot go wrong with hiring him. We will use him again when we are ready to remodel the 3rd floor.

Excellent. Sabino Hernandez did an excellent job for us from start to finish. Sabino listened carefully to what we wanted and worked with us to meet all of our objectives. Sabino was very knowledgable about his craft, always professional, on time, a pleasure to work with and very accommodating.

Sabino Hernandez is terrific! He was the second architect we consulted, and his fee was 40% lower than the first one. He is courteous, friendly, professional, and extremely helpful. Sabino took care to learn exactly what we wanted, and made some suggestions in terms of design, cost-effectiveness, and likelihood of approval for the building permit. He was patient with our questions and changes. It was a delight to work with him. He also consulted a structural engineer for one piece of the project, for which there was an additional charge of $450. The advice given by that engineer was well with the fee.

Ivan was very responsive and professional. He had great ideas and was easy to communicate with. We are postponing our project, but will strongly consider him when we move forward.

Excellent follow-through! He designed a beautiful addition and everything went extremely well with the construction project. He had a lot of foresight and took into account things that could potentially go wrong on the project. He assisted us many times when we had redesign issues and was always there to answer phone calls or he answered his phone calls by the end of the day. I have nothing but good things to say about him and his workmanship: very professional, very polite and extremely helpful when there were questions. Most of all he was never condescending as many architects we have dealt with in the past have been.
