Work was done as expected. Team was punctual, completed the work within the 1 day as expected, and were very professional to deal with.

Gave me a quote over the phone. Two guys arrived on time, did the work and were able to save much of the freon that we expected to lose so final cost was a few hundred less than the estimate. They forgot some insulating foam and promised to come back and apply it the next morning. I never saw them but when i checked the foam had been applied as promised with no hassles.

It was fine. They just did it. I did not ask for much variability. I have used them for a long time. The price was about what I was used to so I did not challenge the kind of water heater. It was the same water heater as we had. Their quality has been good. Their responsiveness has been good. The price is reasonable.

We have used them for a long time. They have done more extensive things for us in the past, like put a water heater in. They did something else other than the faucet. They checked a line that was slow. They checked another faucet line as well as fixing the faucet. There was no problem. They were prompt. They came promptly, actually somewhat earlier than expected to. I would say they performed well in that regard. The faucet works now. They are not that cheap.

Chris was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. Though we ultimately went with a different contractor, we were impressed with this company, and would recommend them to others. $7200 for furnace only.

Plumber used no solder fittings; i guess I could have done the job myself and saved $1500 of the cost. A few of the angles are a few degrees off of 90.

They are very professional. They installed our boiler, our gas dryer, and various other smaller services. They are very reliable, they take appointments and show up at the appointed hour. They do good work and clean up after themselves. There were no issues.

They were great!!! I called them first because our water heater had broken and they gave me a quote that my wife thought was too high, so after making an appointment for that same day, I called back to cancelled and told them I would call around for additional quotes. They were very gracious and understanding. I called around just to realized PH Holmes has given me the best price. I called back like an hour later and they were still able to come the same day. They removed the old tank and replace it with the new one and I able to use hot water that same day! The technicians were friendly and efficient.

Very nice team who came to the house but didn't have all of the supplies despite being told exactly what was needed for job. Returned the following day with supplies and another team member to help-ended up getting charged for double labor despite the fact that the job could have been done with 1 person in a similar amount of time. Also charged 45 min for clogged pipe when only 15 min was spent here. When I called the office they were very responsive and lowered the charges but didn't like getting uncharged for things.

I think they care more about making money rather than the quality of service that they're offering.

Through the Mass Save Program and Angies list we decided to use R. P. Holmes. Chris who came out to give us the quote was very pleasant , courteous, informative and very knowledgeable of the requirements for our new heating systems. The final contract was easily read with explaination of rebates through National Grid and as to what services was to be performed. Sue Holmes (owner) made it very easy for me to get my rebates back as well as streamlining the payment plan as the work was being performed. Installation work was done by Allen, Shawn, and Carlos. They were all professional, courteous and did a neat and clean job on the boilers. Had a glitch with one of the boilers but they responded quickly and promptly came out numerous times to address the problem. It ended up being a defective part which they replaced. Thank you Jonathan and Ken. No problems since. Throughout the whole process during the installation and during the glitchs whenever I had any questions as to what they were doing and why, they always answered it and explained . Would highly recommend.

I had a leaking shower. I took out the valve and called Holmes to replace it. Because it was leaking it was an emergency repair. I told them the shower brand, and the guy tole me he stopped at Home Depot on the way to my house to buy the necessary fixture. He was able to put in the replacement valve and be on his way in ten minutes. Home Depot is ten minutes from my house. He charged me for two hours, which I paid in cash. They then sent me an additional bill for the replacement valve, at a price three times higher than the fixture can be obtained on the web, and much higher than the Home Depot price. I explained politely in writing that I had paid the full bill at the time of service, that i had paid for tow hours for a job that too ten minutes, and I considered any additional payment unreasonable. They just sent me another bill. I then called and the woman in the office was rude and hung up on me. I have used them multiple times in the past, but will not use them again. They price gouge, take advantage of the customer, and have poor customer service. There are plenty of plumbers out there. Do not use RP Holmes.

They were very good and I have used them for many occasions for other jobs. They are very prompt as well.

Within time limits. Polite, pleasant, very competant. Overall lasted almost 1 hour. Price high but not outregeous.

National Grid (NG) gave us this vendor's contact information as a NG certified plumber in the area. R.P. Holmes was the first company I called a month ago. The earliest appointment I was able to get was two weeks after the initial call. Then they called on that day to cancel the appointment because of an emergency issue. We were a bit frustrated, but understand that those things happen. We rescheduled for a week later; they called the morning of the appointment to cancel! They said they were super busy at this time with other jobs and suggested that we look for a company closer to our area. They got such rave reviews on Angie's list and are NG certified (and understand the whole oil to gas conversion process) so we were willing to wait for their estimate of the job; they were at the top of our list for the job at the beginning of this process. Really disappointed that we have waited a month for them and now have to start from the beginning and find another company that meets our criteria. Why couldn't they have been upfront with us at the beginning?!?

The guy who did estimate is nice. The plumber and electrician know what they are doing. I feel the price is little bit high.

They only have one air conditioner repair man who is not always around when you need them. It's a small outfit. The problem is their responsiveness. They are often not available. When they are available, they are punctual. It depends if I will use them or not. I would probably not use them for air conditioning but I may use them for plumbing or heating.

described to the dispatcher 3 small projects; only one was passed on to the service person. the plumber showed up and barked at my wife that he was only sent over to de-install a sink and that a leaking bath tub was the last thing that he needed that day. he looked at the heating system and indicated that a pipe was leaning towards the burner and it should tilt the other way (which makes no sense). all in all the plumber, came, saw, barked and did nothing. We paid 92 buck for the plumber to come, bark at my wife and leve a bad tast in our mouth. I have no problem paying 92 buck for them to show up, but the whole experience left a lot to be desired.

Our gas water heater sprung a leak on Saturday. We called RP Holmes first thing Monday morning for quotes on both a replacement gas water heater and an indirect water heater (RP Holmes installed new Burnham ES-2 gas boilers for our two unit house last year and they zoned the boilers to hook up an indirect water heater if desired). Chris picked up the phone and gave us quotes for each systems--we had excellent dealings with Chris previously so we felt comfortable with his phone quotes. After crunching numbers we opted to go ahead with the Superstor SSU-30 indirect water heater (we have a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment and the first hour consumption rating of the Superstor is more than adequate). We were concerned that we would have to go without hot water for a few more days but RP Holmes had a team to our house two short hours after the initial 07:30 A.M. call. They completed the job by early afternoon, they cleaned after themselves, and the work looked clean, neat and professional. They also took care of the kitchen drain while they were there--there were plastic debris in the disposal and the sink needed to be snaked--which ended up taking more time than expected. The final bill was slightly above the range we were quoted in part due to the kitchen sink. We've been living with the new heater for a few months now and everything is perfect. A big thumbs up to RP Holmes.

We have a two-family house (owner occupied with one tenant unit). We wanted to convert both oil boilers to gas boilers to a) save money and b) make it more enticing for future renters. Our biggest challenge was to make it financially sound since we had to buy two boilers but would only benefit from the savings gained from our unit. After some research online--coupled with countless projections--we decided on 85% efficiency cast iron boilers (with Gas Networks rebates) and venting via our current chimney (our 1930 house has a poured concrete chimney!) The first four contractors told countless horror stories about relining the chimney and pushed for ModCon boilers/indirect water heaters with quotes just south of $20,000. We were resolved to forget our original plan and buy Mod Con boilers. That is till Chris of RP Holmes showed up. Chris (re-)convinced us to go with reliable cast iron boilers with lower maintenance costs, not to replace existing plumbing that didn't need replacing, to reline the chimney, etc... We received a written proposal the next day to install two 85% efficiency cast iron Burnham boilers for $8,000 (we bought the boilers directly through National Grid). We got one lower quote but felt more comfortable with RP Holmes so we called Chris and asked if he could do better on the price. He said he couldn't match the other quote but took $500 off for new total of $7,500. The next day the updated written proposal was in our mailbox. We also went back to Chris to add moving one water heater (after our chimney sweep's recommendation) to the proposal. Again we received the updated version the next day (extra $350 to move the water heater). Chris and RP Holmes were absolutely flawless throughout. The whole experience could not have been better. The work was scheduled for the first three days of August. The team arrived on time, finished early (it took only two days), and they cleaned up after themselves. The work looked neat and professional and with our current projection we'll recoup our investment in five or six short years. RP Holmes was also very helpful and filed the rebate paperwork for us.

From the estimate to the installation to the follow-up skimming, everything went fine.

Terrific job! I originally got estimates from three different companies, all of whom had gotten top reviews on this site. All three people I met seemed capable and reliable. But Chris' estimate ($5450 = $4500 plus $950 for the burner, to be paid directly to gas company) was $800 less than the next lowest bidder, and he really inspired confidence. He patiently answered my numerous questions, which he seemed to enjoy, and he forthrightly explained other work that would probably need to be done and was not included in his price -- putting a liner in the chimney, removing the oil tank, and installing additional piping to increase the gas supply if the gas company considered it necessary. (The house already had one gas burner and two gas hot water heaters.) As it turned out, all these things did need to be done, and Chris gave me recommendations for a chimney guy and a someone to remove the oil tank, both of whom were fine and reasonably priced. He also installed the addtional piping for the additional price he had estimated originally ($600 plus materials, totaling $1200). Throughout the process, Chris was easy to contact and careful to explain the next step in language I could understand. Also, even after his part of the work was completed, while I was waiting for the gas company to come and move the meter (which, for various reasons, ended up taking maybe a month), I called Chris several times with questions, and he helpfully steered me in the right direction-- even calling his contact at the gas company to try and keep things moving. Big job, great guy, good price. Highly recommended.

They were reasonably priced; they charged $741. They were friendly. However, they were not very responsive. I may not use them again in the future.
