Moving Companies, Storage, Piano Movers

About us

We are Piece By Piece Movers, a moving and storage company serving Boston area families for the past several years. Whether a move is complex or next door, a down-size or expansion, we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and will tailor our service to meet each individual client's needs. Piece By Piece is a professional company, passionate about customer satisfaction; a company doing extraordinary work EVERY TIME. You'll find professional, courteous, uniformed movers who respect the client and the client's belongings, and are sensitive to the owners, the property, neighbors, pets, and all those with whom they interact on moving day. All our employees are full time professional movers. Many of us originally began our careers at large reputable moving companies in the area, and have found its better to be a big fish in a small pond. Maintaining a core group of courteous and athletic movers allows us to focus on quality over quantity. Should you choose to engage our services you will quickly find that you are not just another number. Clients have 24 hour email access and the cell phone numbers of our office personnel. We pride ourselves on responsiveness and being communicative. While we are well suited to handle relocations of almost any scale, we do not have the massive overhead that some of our larger competitors maintain. This allows us to be a bit more cost-effective, often 10-20% less than our reputable competitors while still providing a premier level of service. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions whatsoever. We look forward to proving everything we claimed above on your next move.

In a prior move they were great. This past move, not so much. Their crew came to me at the end of the move, and suggested an insurance option that resulted in me being under insured. A $500 lamp was broken and they offered me $150. In the process they accused me of changing my insurance choice at the end of the move, when in fact they misled me. I don't mind the money nearly as much as I mind being called a liar.

Do not use this company if you're storing anything you care about ever getting back, or if you plan on needing to speak to customer service. I used Piece by Piece to store some of my belongings for a few months. They picked up my things no problem, but getting them back was a complete mess. They delivered (some) of my belongings an entire week before the date I requested. Luckily I was moving into my new place early and could receive my stuff or they would have dropped my things outside a vacant apartment where they could be stolen. I also did not get one of my boxes. Piece by Piece lost my belongings and has made no effort to help get them back. I am in the process of filing a claim to get money for this, but even if this works it will never replace my items of high sentimental value that they lost. In addition to this, they dropped off 4 more boxes that did not belong to me (another person's name & info was on them) 2 days after my first delivery (but they did come back to get these a few hours later). Piece by Piece is also nearly impossible to get in contact with. I've tried calling at different times and on different days, and no one ever picks up the phone--always straight to voice mail. The one time I got a real person, they said they couldn't help me and gave me another number to call that also went straight to voicemail. All in all, absolutely terrible service and not even for a good price. Update: Responding to PBP's response: Don't know how you would locate my account when I haven't given personal info, also no I am not a BU student. My things were definitely stored and handled by PBP directly. I know for sure that no 3rd party was involved. Just PBP providing poor service. Update on my missing stuff: did get the box back, but only after repeated badgering (again, impossible to contact these people) and when I finally got the box it was crushed. Luckily the contents were okay, but based on the state of this box I would not trust this company to store something that could be easily damaged.
Description of Work: AWFUL! Lost my stuff, delivered on wrong day, & impossible to contact

Hello, we are unable to locate any information regarding your account. It sounds as though you are a BU student involved in the COVID storage. For clarity, the UPS Store is the organization who oversees the BU student storage. PBP is merely one of the contractors for delivery. Meaning, only the UPS Store can address any of these concerns. BU student items were in care and custody of the UPS Store for storage and not in any of our facilities. We would appreciate you updating or clarifying your review.

Do not use this company. We used this company to move and in good faith took out insurance which they encouraged us to buy. Our house contents were in their storage for 6 months. A good vintage rug went in to storage and when it was returned it had holes where carpet moths had eaten it and we lost several boxes of glassware and kitchenware. They did locate some other items that were initially lost. We informed them immediately about the rug pests and they told us to contact pest control. They told us to get the rug out of the house immediately. We did and placed it away from the house and was told by the movers they would send somebody around that weekend to inspect. They never turned up. The rug became wet as well as now having large holes. After months of trying to request a reasonable recourse for the rug and lost boxes we now hear that they will not pay out on any damage or loss. We followed all their instructions to find this out 6 months later. I am deeply disappointed that our only recourse as a customer is to ensure this doesn’t happen to other neighbors requiring reliable movers.

Response from Piece by Piece Movers LLC
We apologize our claims process did not yield the outcome you were expecting. However, in an effort to provide context, our account of the events surrounding your claim are detailed below. After delivery of your shipment from storage, you had made us aware of moth concerns in one of your rugs. Our understanding is we were able to locate the "missing boxes" in question. Throughout our correspondences, the rug was the primary concern. Although we engage regular pest control services in our warehouse -this is the only instance of moth damage- we were open to working toward a fair resolution. A site visit with a rug specialist was arranged. When the tech arrived to inspect the rug, he relayed the rug was discovered laying outside unprotected. By the time the tech arrived it had been rained on, dirtied, and was submerged in a snowbank. This made it impossible to determine damage caused by pests since the rug had become irreparably damaged by the elements. What originally began as a repair had now become a full replacement. Based on the new damage to the rug, we asked that you foot the expense of having the rug cleaned before we could reassess for repair. The cost to clean was over $1700. You were unsatisfied with the proposed settlement and maintained we would have to replace the entire rug at full value. In further conversations, it became clear we could not agree on a reasonable solution. At that point, the claim was submitted to our insurer. Our insurer concluded we could not be found responsible and subsequently refused to pay out for the damages claimed. Please trust we do not like to hide behind fine print. Over a decade we have proven ourselves as a service-based business that cares about our clients, our reputation, and regularly goes above and beyond what is required or obligated of us. Sadly, the circumstances surrounding this claim made it difficult to reach a settlement you could accept. Sincerely, we thank you for your time and patronage and regret we could not leave you totally satisfied.

“Hats off” to the Piece by Piece Moving Company. From our initial call to Andre, who was able to get us out of situation of another moving company that showed up on Friday and walked off the job within the first 2 hours to getting us a great crew on the following Sunday as we had to move out by Sunday night. David and his crew, Ron, Louis, Tom (GT) and Elimantas showed up Sunday morning and they were 100% experienced, excellent, polite and really knew their “stuff’! Many of our pieces were hand carved Italian furniture that had to be carefully wrapped and moved and they did with no issues, no complaints (about the weight). I would 100% recommend Piece by Piece Movers for all your moving needs!

Perfect. Could not have asked for better service. They were prompt, organized, and extra careful with all of my belongings. I was told by a friend who used another company to watch the movers as they tend to delay, stop to get on their cell phones, etc., but I didn't have any of those issues. I had to insist that my movers stop and take a lunch break - and I believe they only took 10 minutes. I have recommended them to everyone I know that has moved, my sister has used them multiple times and I would definitely use them again.

Things started out well-enough. They dismantled things and moved them in an efficient manner and all seemed to be going well until it came time to reassemble the furniture they'd taken apart. That's when the wheels fell off! At one point during the move I entered one of the offices that was supposedly finished and went to adjust the desk only to find the leg held on by a single screw. Upon pointing this out to the guy in charge I was told that they didn't have enough screws to assemble the desk properly. They sure had enough screws before they were moved I wonder what happened to them. Not satisfied with this answer I went into my supply cabinet and pulled out a box of extra screws which they then installed somewhat begrudgingly. Sadly that wasn't the end of our issues. With our new space we only needed two of our three cubicles set up after being relocated. When checking over the work excuses were made for the uneven desk surfaces due to differing heights on the leveling feet. Call me crazy but isn't that exactly why they are called leveling feet, to be used to level the furniture?! Fed up with the whole affair I let them get away with this excuse. Sadly I found out at the risk of great bodily injury that they didn't even assemble what they did properly when one of them fell apart with me under it! Thank God my buddy was working with me and could come to my rescue. Half of the screw holes were empty, the arms were not properly seated in the supporting walls, and they could not even be bothered to take out the top drawer of the pedestals to secure the desks to them! To add insult to injury even with the parts from the third cube to draw upon there were kickplates missing from the wall panels in key locations yet when I set about fixing their poor assembly I found they hadn't even taken the care to assemble them intelligently! The missing kickplates and end caps were buried in the middle of sections of wall panels or attached to walls that stood against the walls of the room. Clearly nobody was interested inn taking pride in their work. The worst part? While remedying the situation I found collections of screws stashed all over the place inside drawers. It wasn't that they couldn't do a good job it's that they chose not to. I'm all for equal opportunity employment but for a job like moving you need to be able to communicate with the clients. We had a team of three with two who seemed to be immigrants who didn't understand English very well to the point that I had to draw them a picture of how the cubicles needed to face to get the point across (after explaining it three times) and a millennial who was ostensibly there to serve as supervisor/interpreter but apparently had no interest in actually ensuring quality work be done and instead made excuses for shoddy work. Shame. I guess I should have checked the cubes more carefully instead of helping the telecom guys install the new phone system. Not that the IT guy should have to worry about such things when people are being paid good money to do a job. If you have these guys move your company be sure to give your IT guy hazard pay for when he goes to hook up computers under the desks they put together.

I spoke with Ed, the owner. He described that the move really was out of their network and wouldn't end up being cost efficient for me. This was only second call about pricing this out and Ed took a bunch of time (without me asking him to!) to explain how the long haul companies worked and which ones he would recommend. He talked me through what to consider and the right questions to ask. He was professional, courteous and took a bunch of time to help me just to be kind and share his knowledge.

From first to last contact, Dan and his crew were professional, competent and easy to work with. The quote was almost $1,000 less than other companies and Dan gave us suggestions on what we could do to keep the price low. The crew was punctual and completed the move in 4 hours--in a snow storm! The guys were friendly and considerate and offered to take the last stack of boxes we hadn't gotten to. They even worked around our daughter who ended up having a snow day and needed somewhere to play.

Their rate was $30 higher per hour than other competitors, but I decided to go with them because they were closer and very responsive to my first emails. On the move day, everyone showed up on time and the move itself went well, partially because I was also helping them, thinking that this will save me money. At the end of the move which was less than 4 hr, I was told that the minimum move time was 4 hr. I think they should have made this clear to me prior to the move. They also broke 3 of our lamp shades and seemed that 2 out of the 3 movers were new to the job and not very experienced. Overall, I would not recommend them. They did an average job for a higher amount than other companies would have.

I'm still dealing with them on the payment. I purchased the deal for $499 and they sent the guy over to do estimate. That deal I purchased was for two people for four hours. The person that came to my home said I need more men and more hours. They quoted me for three people 7 hours. They told me it was going to be around $1100 with Angie's discount so I agreed. They scheduled on the 10th. They came in the morning. They were done within 7 hours and they charged me $1300. They told me they had not received the $499 so they will refund me when they receive it. Up until today, I still have not got the refund. I was contacting the billing and they told me that they will update me but until now, I still haven't got it. The price was terrible.
