This an example of incompetent staff a the technical and service operations level that resulted in a mishap that will cost me hundreds if not thousands to fix.
Description of Work: A simple yearly maintenance that went horribly wrong with the service and quality team placing blame on the age of the unit rather than taking accountability and standing behind a error on their part by not falling electrical beat practices.

They sold systems representing that they service "Middlesex County" and the site is arsboston. They are a Bridgewater area company and complain they can't attract service workers post-Covid. The manager claims they stopped service "north of Boston" 18 months ago. They canceling in southern Middlesex County. I had a service agreement and relatively system. I wasn't notified of the new service limits until an emergency appointment was broken three days after the service request.

I was connected with ARS through Lowes to get an estimate for a water heater replacement. The woman on the phone was very nice, and we scheduled an estimate between 8-10am on a Friday. I waited, and they never showed. I called and they explained it was an error in the system, so she corrected it and scheduled one for Monday at the same time, explaining that I would be the first appt. of the day. Monday rolled around, and nothing by 10am. I called and a rather unapologetic gentlemen did not seem concerned. When I asked if I was even on the schedule he said yes, but the tech was probably hung up from another appointment. I took a total of 6 hours off of work for nothing, it was very disappointing.

It didn't. The company doesn't have the decency to call the customer what time they are going to show up on the day of the project. So the day before they are suppose to arrive for a complete a/c unit with coils, they don't let you know if or when they will arrive.

A crew of four came to replace our 2nd floor HVAC system and completed the entire job in little over a day's time. Pricing was good; crew was on-time and communicated progress / status well. This the second time I've used ARS for HVAC work (they replaced our 1st floor furnace a few years ago) and I expect I'll use them again when the 1st floor A/C unit dies.

Never ask them to do any work with out. This company does an awesome job taking away you money. I have an just under 5 year old lennox high end systems. And through home depot asked for the tune up service. I had an observation to these company prior service and that sounded an alarm for me. I always believe on second chance. This time they want to charge me on for Freon gas refill for about 3 lb. For such machines you must not be spending on refill until you discover the leak. He said that he fill up and look for next year. OK. He said it cost 194 for first lb and consecutive to be 174. For some reason i remember that many years ago my friend was chart approximate that much money for doing such work. OK.. I paid of and he left he house in 40 mints of all work. Nice.. Luckily I happen to talk to my friend who told this is not right. He specialized on these systems. I called few other Lennox authorized companies and the chart difference is huge. This company charges thr retired R22(~$150) gas price for the 410A gas($3-5). Check it up yourself. This is a huge scam. Please do not do any work suggest by these people without evaluated. Three year ago i was asked for clean up charge on the vents. OK i did. After that i went on with my many friends who also new home owners just to take care of things. But i observed the day - night difference on my vent vs their vents. OK a good learning. This time its a complete scam by these people. I try what so ever best to make this aware for other people. I'm not saying about the technicians, if the company ask them to look for money always, its not the place you need to end up with. Just be aware and educate yourself, avoid falling on this company trap. They never coming into my home ever again.

I just purchased my home, so I was still getting acquainted with my heating and AC unit. I noticed on my iComfort thermostat that my air filter was at 100%, even though I had just purchased and changed the filter. I could not manage to clear the error, which had gone from 20% to 100% and was illuminated in red. Not wanting to cause damage to the newly installed system, I luckily found the name, address and phone number of ARS programmed into my unit, while navigating around. I was not left any paperwork on the unit, so thankfully this information was programmed into the system. It was a Sunday evening, but knowing I would forget to call in the AM, I called and left a message. What was amazing to start was that I received a call from someone at ARS early the following morning (Monday), and I do not mean start time early, as I drive to work at 5:30 AM and it takes me an hour to get to my place of business. Even more amazing was the ability to get someone out to my home that same afternoon by 3 PM. They had all of the information on my unit, as they installed it, so they knew that nothing had been done to the system since it was installed. A very professional and cordial technician named Dan arrived at my residence and took care of the cleaning of the unit and the removing of the filter error. He gave me a brief overview of the heating unit and we also discussed the AC portion of the unit as he noticed the configured settings on the thermostat could cause a potential harmful issue. I cover my outside unit, and the thermostat was set to move to A/C if the temperature reached a certain temperature. As I mentioned, i just moved in, and knew nothing of the system, just that it was an extremely expensive unit. Dan reset my configurations, and explained what changes he was making so that I would know for future. I only paid approximately $300.00, it was actually a bit less, but I do not have the exact amount, because I also purchased a maintenance visit for the spring to get the A/C portion checked, and started, and anther little review. Purchasing both provided me a discount, which is greatly appreciated also. I am very happy the information for ARS was programmed into my thermostat. They are truly a reliable and professional company, and I look forward to doing business with them and Dan in the future - he IS absolutely awesome!

ARS responded quickly and they sent a Tech out to inspect our furnace. The Tech inspected our furnace but instead of taking my husband down to show him the problem, he brought up a photo of the problem. We signed a contract but upon closer inspection of the photo, it was apparent to me that the photo was what looked like a pencil mark and not a crack. Perplexed and upset, we called ARS and told them about it, put the job on hold, and then paid another company to come out and inspect our furnace. They confirmed that there was a crack so we honored our contract with ARS and had them do the job. They came out the next day and installed a new furnace with no other issues and everything seems fine. Will I recommend them in the future?? Will I hire them again??? Maybe as it ended on a good note as the tech came back and explained everything to us before we did the job and I am sure we had caused him some grief with what had happened as well. We all make mistakes and we just wanted to put it behind us. In the end we were happy with the job and our new furnace minus the speed bump. I have attached photos.

The overall installation and service went as planned. They crew that arrived was very knowledgeable and professional. The overall installation took about 4 hours. They were very neat as well. My overall experience with ARS was a great one. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of any HVAC repairs. I couldn't be happier with my new energy efficient system.

Jaime came to the house to review the job and quote. He gave great advice on the projects I was considering and helped me decide that I truly only needed to love forward with the furnace and inline water heater. He took on the paperwork for the MassSave program and set up the project quickly. The guys who did the work were efficient and came back quickly to tweak one component that needed some adjustment. Overall really happy with the process start to finish. Thanks ARS

I'd had ARS do annual check-up of my furnace for 4 years. I was happy with the service but surprised this year when the furnace didn't start and they found massive corrosion. They replaced an exhaust fan chamber, total about $1,000, but said that I might need to replace the entire furnace. I wasn't thrilled that they'd never mentioned any issues in the prior 3 years of service, but that was not a big deal in a house with no heat and winter coming on. I had a problem getting the furnace going about a week after the $1,000 repair. I called and asked them for a service call and got a complete runaround. Wouldn't even return my calls. Fortunately, the problem was minor--and the furnace ended up working fine after I drained and refilled the water in the system. But the several days of no response in a cold house drove me crazy. They never have returned my call. This is unacceptable for a heating contractor who we'd hired for 3 years and had done $1,000 worth of work a week prior.

Had to have some dampers replaced on my system. The ARS technician came and explained that the job was a big job because he had to remove the exhaust and inlet plumbing, as well as other items that prevented one of the dampers from being removed easily. The quote was $1670, which I thought was high, but given the extensive amount of work involved, I agreed. When the technician return for installation, he cut the duct from the bottom and easily removed the troubled damper. No plumbing work or removal of any other items was required. He spent less than an hour on the site. Naturally I called ARS to discuss the bill and to ask how they arrived at that number, since they provided no parts or labor costs on the invoice. The ARS rep explained that their hourly rate is $416 and that the charge was for 3 1/2 hrs. He also told me that they don’t quote costs because they are a flat rate company.

Here is how it went. They charged me for a "tune up," but sent me the following email - when I asked for my money back, they refused. " I DO NOT RECOMMENED RUNNING YOUR A/C AS IT COULD CAUSE WATER DAMAGE." So you are telling me not to run my AC unit, while you also did a tune up? I will let you decide. Had three local companies came in and did a free estimate. Getting a new AC unit this weekend. They could have my business, but not sure why they were so defensive. Watch for their response.

I bought a house few months ago. I called the company and I said that my gas furnace about 20 years old and I need maintenance, it works good but leaking. I have been told that worker will come and will check if I need to repair it or just cleaning, visit will cost me $135. My time was from 12 to 3 pm. Worker came 3-30. He looked to furnace and said that furnace is 16 years old, they recommend replacement every 15 years, I have to buy a new one for $7000. He refused to do any maintenance or cleaning because furnace can stop working as it is too old, he also said all furnaces leaking, it's ok. Charges me money and left. If there is no service after 15 years for furnace, why they told me they going to repair or clean it when I called?

We've been using ARS for the maintenance of our HVAC system for the past several years and had been happy with the service. So last Spring when when our regular technician suggested that we sign up for the annual service plan I decided to go ahead to prepay for it. What a mistake. Today's visit for our fall "tune-up" was with a technician who spent more time in his van smoking than in our basement working on our HVAC system. Honestly, I think he was there for about seven minutes max. And I paid over $300.00 for this. Never again.

Referred to ARS Heating and Cooling of West Bridgewater, MA by Home Depot, Inc for a mal-functioning AC unit. They couldn't fix the problem and told me I needed a new system. I went ahead with the new system purchase. The installation dragged on thru winter, and I had no heat for a period of time. Once the new system was finally installed, it had the exact same problem. The issue was a fire dampener in the ducts (a very inexpensive problem to solve) They charged me $10k for a new system I never needed, plus the initial "repair" visit.

I hired ARS-Boston to fix my HVAC unit. They charged me a few hundred dollars for a repair, then they told me they could fix it and I needed a new system, soI took their word for it. AFter paying for a new system, as well as a crane and required police detail to install it the system had the exact same problem I had originally: no air flow. NO apologies, no accepting responsibility, just "Ha ha we got you for a new system and all you needed was a $5 replacement fire dampner in the duct. I would go as far to say this must be an act of fraud due to the simple nature of the problem and their inability to correctly diagnose it.

Never received a written quote or any type of follow up discussion.
Description of Work: needed a quote for AC. He appeared afraid and overwhelmed by the project. Could only give one option for the project and a verbal quote of 45k and stated he would send a written quote and didn't. I was able to obtain other options and quotes from other companies and the comparable option I was given redo entire system was 15k cheaper than his.

The installation team was very professional and clean. Although the installation itself took a full day longer than I was originally told, it was well worth the wait as the installers were meticulous both about cleaning up after themselves and ensuring that the work itself looked clean and professional. Additionally, they were able to get a team out to start the install the day after we signed the contract. We had three indoor units, one outdoor unit, and a branch box installed. Given the quality of the work, we are strongly considering using them to service our HVAC systems in the future.
