Let me sing the praises of Hughes Floors, a small, family-run company! They have finished and maintained our hardwood floors in our 1906 home several times over the last 29 years. Chuck Hughes learned from the best, his dad Arthur, and continues to offer consistent, high quality, professional finish floor work. He is very reliable, friendly, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and clean. He came to look over our floors in early winter and did our floors on the May dates that we requested. Furthermore, we asked Chuck to do some minor floor repairs, and he went beyond what we asked him to do, and his repair work turned out great as well! It’s always a pleasure to work with Hughes Floors. Lord, how I wish all our other service contacts could be as stress-free to deal with as Chuck! While we were away on vacation, Chuck came in and installed new cherry floors for us, and refinished our existing ones. He had to work around a lot of different schedules on our part. He did an absolutely beautiful job, and I would recommend him to anyone. His professionalism and attention to detailed is unparalleled. Being an interior designer, I am very fastidious about contractor work. I can tell you that I don't have a single bad thing to say about Chuck or his work. He always showed up when he said he would, and the job was completed on time. Everything was neat and clean and perfect upon our return. Can't say enough good things about him and his work

The engagement was great. He came buy and looked at the work and provided a quote in a quick visit. We agreed on a price and a date. The work was completed on schedule and for the agreed price. During the work he took good care of our home; carefully sealed the room to avoid getting dust everywhere, refinished the floor without damaging the baseboards, and the floor looks great.

Chuck Hughes is the real deal. From the first conversation to the completion of the work, he was just the best. His pricing was more than fair and his work was just fantastic. He kept in touch with us while we completed our kitchen renovation so the timing of the floor work could be done before Thanksgiving. He arrived at 7.30 am each day until the work was done. He is a real craftsman, very careful and very professional about everything. He closed off the rooms to avoid any dust or dirt, but it turns out he really does do dust free refinishing. He was careful about our house and was very detail oriented in the corners and along the walls. Our floor look brand new. He is a pleasure to work with and I could not recommend him more highly.

Work was done in excellent and professional manner. Closed off room with heavy tarp so that there was no dust and almost no odor in rest of the house. Very punctual. Outstanding results.

Chuck is a craftsman. He is excellent at his craft. He repaired / patched an 11 foot by 3 foot section of floor by blending in new pieces of white oak. He installed flush mount registers on the floor, sanded it all to perfection and used high quality polyurethane too protect the surface. He works by himself and his attention to detail is excellent. Plan ahead for scheduling. He is worth the wait!

Based on my interactions this is a small company. We talked with Chuck and he did the work, you are not dealing with intermediates.. We had hardwood floors in the house that needed some resurfacing and possible restaining to hide some pet stains. Chuck was very helpful in providing advice, to the point to not doing some aspects of what we had requested as in his opinion it would not actually get a better end result. He did an outstanding job in restoring a beat up heart pine floor in the living room. The result was amazing. Maybe not relevant for everyone but he seems to really enjoy his job and the results showed this in our case.

Mr. Hughes arrived punctually and gave me his professional opinion as to my flooring problems. He was courteous and provided very valuable information. Although we both agreed that my flooring situation could not be solved by resurfacing, I would not hesitate to recommend Hughes Flooring and I will call them in again if I have other flooring needs

Chuck arrived by seven each morning and got straight to work. He spent the early part of the week sanding three rooms, main hallway and stairs, as well as the second-floor landing of our cape. Mid-week through Friday, he applied three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane to finish the job. Throughout, Chuck was courteous and professional. We would recommend him to friends and use him again without hesitation. Chuck stays busy, so be advised you may be reserving his services well in advance of having the work done. In our case, we got an estimate from Chuck in July for work he performed in mid-September. Despite the wait, we love our new floors!

Floors in living room and dinning room were scratched and had pet stains. Chuck responded promptly, came as scheduled, evaluated the work required to bring the floors back and provided a very reasonable price. First, the floors were repaired- he sanded and determined which stains required the removal and replacement of the stained wood. Went ahead and did this very quickly. Proceeded to sand and finish w 3 coats of oil-based polyurethane. When done we could not tell the new from the old wood. It was amazing. We did the floors in two sessions so that the family could live in the house; he controlled the dust completely. I have and quot;newand quot; floors now, beautiful floors. Thanks, Chuck!!!

We could not have been happier with the service provided. Chuck worked around our schedule to come and quote the job. We recieved a few other quotes that were all in the same price range but Chuck gave by far the best first impression. He showed up the day we had scheduled bright and early. Had the floors sanded in a couple days and the dustless sanding left the house virtually dust free. He even put a bunch of different color stains on the floor for us to choose which color we prefer. We thought we might have to sleep somewhere else for the week because of the smell of the poly, but with the drop clothes and fans we couldn't smell a thing in our bedroom. The whole job took a week to complete. The floors came out great and we would not hesitate to use them again.

Chuck Hughes did a fantastic job. This is the second time we have had oak floors done by Chuck. Based on our first experience, he is the only person we considered for our second job. He work is exceptional. He kept right on schedule and was very flexible about working around out needs in our home. We highly recommend Hughes Flooring for hard wood floors.

As good as an experience as getting floors refinished could be. Chuck came the day after I called to do the estimate and provided it on the spot. We accepted it right away. He really knows floors (his father was also in the business) and gave us a clever and economical solution of blending the breakfast area floor with the family room entrance so we could and quot;stopand quot; the refinishing without doing rooms that did not need it. (It looks great by the way.) He did not recommend a threshold or an inlaid floor break that had been suggested by someone else. Through some quirk in his schedule he was able to come the next week. Our understanding is that Chuck is often booked for at least several weeks in advance so this was an exception. Chuck showed up right as scheduled. He taped and protected all the cabinets from dust and partitioned a balcony area to help keep the fumes from getting into the kids rooms. We noticed no dust in the house. The fumes were not that bad. The process took four days. The floors look and feel absolutely great. Chuck is professional, polite and nice to have around during the work. He did what he said he would do when he said he would do it and how. What more can I say? You may have to wait to get into the schedule but use this guy if you can.

Project completed one day early and on budget. Floors look great. Much better job than one 15 or so years ago. Chuck really knows his trade.

The project went smoothly and as promised. Chuck showed up when he said he would and performed the job professionally and perfectly. The finished product was as good as the original floor. We have used him twice now and completely satisified with his work.

I highly recommend Chuck Hughes -- he's everything you can ask for in a contractor: very professional, highly skilled, shows great attention to detail, is absolutely punctual, with excellent communication from the job start through to the finish. To top it off, his price was right in line with my other 2 quotes. The best way to convey Chuck's work is probably to say he's a model of the and quot;old world craftsmanand quot;. He provides the kind of craftsmanship and pride in his work that seems to be just about impossible to find these days. I'm sure he acquired both his skills and work ethic from his dad and grandfather, as this is a 3rd generation family business. The flooring was the last phase of 4 months of remodeling in which we used a couple of plumbers, rough and finish carpenters, tile installers, electricians, heating contractors and Hughes Flooring. Chuck was, without question, the tops in terms of professionalism and quality of work. As you can see from reading other reviews of Hughes Flooring on Angie's, our experience is pretty much the norm -- this guy is good!

Chuck was easy to get in touch with and he came to look at our floors and gave us an estimate. Chuck does all the work himself and is meticulous. We had just had the whole interior of the house painted and there was absolutely no damage to the new paint! He also ran fans to exhaust the fumes and speed the drying, and sealed off the rest of the house to keep dust out. Each day Chuck cleaned up completely. He even helped us create different barriers to keep our cats out of the way. Chuck is friendly, and completely trustworthy. We felt totally comfortable leaving him alone in the house; there was a day we moved out because we couldn't use the stairs and Chuck let himself in and locked up when he left. We will definitely have him come back when we are ready to do our upstairs rooms.

Chuck provided an on the spot estimate and then performed the work per to an agreed schedule. He was prompt every morning, completely professional and did an outstanding job on these floors. There was no dust to speak of after the job and the floors look magnificant. He does the estimate and the work himself, so it is not a salesman providing the input. I would certainly use him again when I redo some other floors in the house. I cannot recommend him more highly.

Chuck responded quickly to my initial email and gave me an estimate over the phone. Since I was asking him to refinish a small area, he charged his minimum charge of $550. He showed up a few days later to eyeball the floor and two days later he started. The job took about 8 hours over the course of 3 days. There was absolutely no dust and each night he left a fan in the window to minimize the smell of the polyurethane. The floor looks great, and I would definitely hire him again.

I have wall-to-wall carpeting and vinyl and wanted a hardwood floor installed in my living room and in the adjacent dining area of my kitchen. I was very impressed with the information given during the estimate and would have hired Hughes, but he explained that what I wanted in the kitchen would not work - that is, splitting the room, wood in the dining section and another material in the other half of the kitchen. Where the two flooring materials meet would eventually not work out. He is honest and seems like an expert in hardwood floor installation.

From returning my call right away and coming quickly to estimate, to patiently explaining the process and offering 2 alternate solutions, to having a very professional and cheerful manner, Chuck Hughes was great to work with -- very direct, clear, and maintaining a high standard of quality throughout. I was astonished at his craftsmanship of weaving the very high quality replacement boards into the existing boards (see their website). He had allowed realistic time in the estimate for this complex process, but it went well, so the final bill reflected the 3 fewer hours. He had a really good eye for the staining, and you really cannot tell where the new boards are. The famous Hughes dustless method works beautifully, and there was no sawdust when he left on any of the days. It made a big difference that Hughes is a small family business. Talking with Chuck, we discovered that his grandfather, the founder, knew the man who built our house and may even have put in our floors in the 30s. It was great to know that both Chuck and his father grew up in the business and have all those years of skill and such high standards. Besides that, the cost was quite a lot less than the other estimates I got. I would call them right away for any hardwood floor work.

Experience was great. Showed up to give us a bid on time. He told us when he would start work; showed up on time, covered counters and all appliance so dust would not be a problem. Cleaned up every night before he left. Finished job on time and the floors look great.

Our two spare bedrooms had hardwood floors that were in poor condition. After getting a few quotes and researching on Angie's list, we selected Chuck Hughes, who runs his business with his father. The job couldn't have gone better. Chuck and his father are both extremely amiable and reliable, and totally professional. Chuck made the floor look great -- much better than we had imagined it could look, with the damage it had sustained before we moved in. The job was done with a minimum of intrusion, noise, and sand. They used a very effective vacuum system to keep the house as clean as possible. Chuck also explained to us the do's and don'ts of hardwood floor care.
