Gross misrepresentation of equipment capability. Equipment damaged as delivered. Shop utterly unresponsive to appeals for help. Months of excuses, missed appointments, attempts to blame customer or anyone but selves. Deception from the start, refusals to communicate, failure to respond to legitimate concerns, lies and yet more lies. Court found vendor responsible (irresponsible?) and awarded maximum statutory damages, in no sense full compensation for aggravation and lost time. Since they're still in business, many of their installations must go OK. But these are a big-ticket items, with both economic and safety aspects. Knowing that EU will do everything possible to avoid responsibility for service if/when problem emerge might raise questions about doing business here.

From beginning to end, every single transaction, with the store but especially with the installer, was difficult and unpleasant, and we feel that we were ill-advised on the liner issue. We do not recommend this merchant, and especially not this installer.
Description of Work: We purchased a Revere Lopi fireplace insert on October 27 over the phone and a stove board at the store in November. At that time, we asked for an installer and were referred to John Cardin. He came on January 15, 2008 and installed the stove, after several fruitless attempts on our to make that appointment. Subsequently, we had problems with the stove and tried multiple times to get John to come back and correct them. No response. We tried Energy Unlimited, and after a number of increasingly irate calls to them, John eventually came and made a necessary adjustment. Now, over two years later, we have found out that the 8' long steel liner that was installed was not up to national code (though legal in Massachusetts), and we now need to reline the entire flue, for $ 1250, to prevent possible chimney fires. The fireplace insert (on sale at the time) was approx. $ 2,200, and the installer charged us another $ 750 (including $ 300 for the 8' liner).

Not well. We bought the insert on the condition that it fit into our fireplace. We got home and measured the fireplace and it didn't fit. A salesperson made three appointments with us to come to measure and didn't show up at any of them. We canceled the sale; we never took possession of the insert - it was a stock item in their backroom. Energy Unlimited would not put a credit on our credit card, after sales people said several times (over a period of 4 to 6 weeks) that they would. We had to contact our credit card company and have them handle it. Situation is not yet resolved.

John at Energy Unlimited helped me pick the right stove for my unusual fireplace. The stove was delivered and installed three weeks later by a very professional pair of men. They were courteous, efficient and left the house as clean as they found it. The stove not only looks great, it is keeping me and my dogs toasty warm as my furnace is not working right now!
