Description of Work: Installed two ball valves in basement to limit the flow in two 2nd-floor baseboard convectors in single-zone hydronic heating system. This is a monoflow system in which each convector is a separate "tributary" off the main loop. Each convector is connected via a standard T on the upstream side and a Venturi T on the downstream side. Installation of a new boiler/burner last year resulted in increased pressure, which increased the flow on the second floor and resulted in very high room temperatures, especially during cold weather. At 0 degrees F outside, with first-floor temp of 67 degrees, room temperature upstairs could be in the mid 80s! I wanted an approach that would limit the work to the basement (except for bleeding the system at the completion of the job). My proposed approach used (normally open to fluid flow) zone valves instead of ball valves and would have required installation of a second thermostat upstairs. I am confident that this approach would have worked and several of the plumbers I spoke with agreed that it was an interesting and practical approach. However, none would quote on doing it my way. Winters said they had installed many systems that use ball valves to restrict the water flow, so despite the high price, I gave them the job.

Description of Work: THE REMOVED THE OLD WATER HEATER AND INSTALLED A NEW ONE.

Description of Work: 10 year old water heater gave out (flooding basement). Called their 24 line to ask for advice, and schedule visit next day for repair.

Description of Work: Access and repair gas furnace. Pilot was out, they came within 48 hours (maybe less) determined that is was one of two elements in the furnace.

They explained to me their package, to clean the drain was $150, but since it was behind the tub too, it was another $150, if I remember correctly. They explained their drain clearing policy as being a package which included a choice of warranty. I was not happy w/the price nor the "package" but since I had taken time off for work I needed it done now. It took them less than 10 minutes for the job. But they explained everything fully which was OK. Next time I would prefer a good old-fashioned plumber with dirty overalls billing by the hour, to a fancy guy in a clean uniform with a fixed-price policy to do a simple job like this.

Description of Work: The Winter's technician diagnosised why our first floor heating zone wasn't work and repaired the thermostat wiring. He spent 2 hours sorting out the issues.

Description of Work: Installed a new hot water heater and removed the leaking one on short notice.

Description of Work: Needed a new water heater and needed to find out if it was time to replace the heating system in my one family home.

Description of Work: Installed backwater valve and backwater gate valve to prevent sewage from the street from backing up into our house. The street pipe is badly in need of replacement, due to rock intrusions, dropped joints, and sags, and it clogs frequently. The backwater valve is a spring-loaded flapper valve that permits only a one-way flow out our main drain. The backwater gate valve is a manual crank valve that allows us to seal off our main drain from the street.

Description of Work: They replaced an old laundry tub, did new plumbing work and a small amount of carpentry.

Description of Work: Drain from 2nd floor tub was completely clogged. We called Winters, and a technician arrived and attempted to unclog the drain. After a few hours' work, the technician informed us that he could not resolve the problem, he would schedule another technician to come out several days' later. He then presented his bill for over $400, which he demanded be paid in cash on the spot. A few days later, we called to confirm when the next technician would be arriving, and the dispatcher had no record that another service call was needed. We then told them not to bother, that we would find another plumber.

Description of Work: Our drain pipe in our kitchen was clogged about 4 inches down and we had them clean that out.

Description of Work: They installed a 40 gallon water heater in my 1000 square foot home.

Description of Work: Service call for broken toilet. They told me that there would be a $70 service fee to come out and if service was done, then they would take that the amount from the total service.

Description of Work: We had them come out to the house to fix the valve in our shower. They were able to reconnect the part that came loose inside the handle.

Description of Work: They put in a new 50 gallon hot water heater and a new gas furnace and removed the old furnace.

Description of Work: I had my furnace tuned up. There was a leaking valve in which they repaired. My home is a large, three story Victorian home. I signed up for a maintenance furnace plan with the company.

Description of Work: We had a sink that was clogged, a sink that needed a small repair (pipe under sink needed a new plug) and we needed new hoses installed on our washing machine as well as a new valve installed. They attempted to unclog the sink, but were unsuccessful. They did do the other work.

Description of Work: The shower vault in my bathroom was broken. She had to open up the wall behind it where there was a closet in order to fix it. It took her one day.
