They installed the wrong blinds that did not fit, then went MIA. Completely missing in action after taking our money, not even returning calls or coming to fix the blinds that were not installed correctly. At this price, there is no excuse to not having any customer service.

Bloom did a good job on the installation, but has been MIA on customer service for blind repairs. It took a month for them to come out in response to two issues: a pull replacement and replacement of broken kitchen blinds. The pull was replaced, but the gentleman who came out insisted the kitchen blinds had not been installed by Bloom. It took a good 15 minutes for him to be convinced that I wasn't making it up, and agree that they had indeed been installed by Bloom. He told me Matt would follow up with me on replacing the kitchen blinds. I emailed and called Matt multiple times over the next couple of months, and he has never returned a call or an email. I initiated this conversation in August of 2016 and it is now April 2017. Each time, I asked him simply to follow up on replacing the blinds. He has not paid me the courtesy of any response at all. I will not use Bloom again. It's no use buying "lifetime warranty" blinds if the seller will not help me resolve problems with the product. I will use Budget Blinds next time.

Very punctual and professional service. The measuring was very thorough (done by 2 different people to ensure accuracy) and the fitting was performed perfectly. They were not the cheapest, but defineitely worth the money and I would use them again without hesitation.

I needed to replace all the high end shades throughout my house (17 in total) and tried to schedule Bloom to measure through email as I travel a lot for work and phone calls are hard with time zone changes. I reached out via angies list and directly on their web site, exchanged emails and explained that we needed to pick a time using email. They would not do so as they said they needed to speak with me live before they would send someone out to measure. Every email endeavoring to schedule a time was responded with "Please call the office to schedule an appointment" - but was not an automated email, just a refusal to schedule even when I provided a wide range of dates, times and my address and name. Presumably to hard sell - not quite sure. I wound up choosing another firm to replace my shades and was very happy with their work and their customer support.

We were very happy with our interaction with them. They were responsive. They provided very good service and provided very good shades. We were happy with the installation. We decided to use them because they're local. There was once that they had the wrong size of the shades but they had no problem fixing it. They did it very quickly and provided the correct size of shade. I think the price was very competitive. The price was quite reasonable. The quality was very good. They were quite professional.

An excellent experience, from first phone contact to completion. I like that it's a local family-run business with accountability, integrity, emphasis on excellence. Son Matt came ot my home, inspected our unusual 5'x5' steel windows, and then spent about an hour asking all of my very detailed questions including engineering solar coefficient ratios, etc. Helped me understand the specific quality difference between Hunter Douglas products v. others with the SheerWeave fabric. I'd done my homework, so I could keep up with his responses and appreciate his depth of knowledge of options available to us. I was also impressed by the stability of the business, their accountability in standing behind their product and installations. I followed up with a visit to their showroom to see the solar shades on display in window, and father Richard was very helpful in my decision of UV ratings and 5% v. 10% openness factors with their displays. Took my order on the spot, based on Matt's previous measurements. The Hunter Douglas came through quickly, and their installer Jay (17 years experience) put them up. He made it look easy, even as it involved drilling into concrete with irregular densities. Jay worked promptly, quietly, very competently and professionally -- leaving no mess behind. Even took out the cardboard boxes, which would have been a pain for me to break down. Made sure I understand everything about operation and maintenance (very little required). The shades function smoothly, very effective in blocking solar rays while retaining an open feel, even better than expected. When rolled up, can't even tell that they are there, tucked into the optional cassette. Very reasonable price, especially considering the quality of manufacture and installation, as well as the confidence I have in their guarantee for satisfaction. Love 'em. Thinking of going back for some honeycomb shades for 5 windows on our cold northern facade.
Description of Work: Educated me about translucent solar shade options in great detail. Installed 7 sets of Hunter Douglas SolarWeave shades with optional cassette on our oversized industrial-style windows.

We are very happy with the look of the shades and the price was significantly less than another store that also quoted us for similar Hunter Douglas products. Matthew was also extremely friendly and professional and very kind to my two year old son, who was very eager to "help" him. I would certainly use Bloom again. I also appreciate how they worked very hard to get us in before the holidays installing our shades and blinds the day before Christmas Eve. They also provided temporary shades at no cost to us while we waited for our blinds, a very nice service.
Description of Work: Matthew Bloom installed honeycomb shades throughout our new construction condo. He was conscious of the amount we wanted to spend and of our desire to keep low hanging cords from our toddler. We got cordless top down, bottom up shades installed in two large first floor windows and one small regular shade. We had cordless blackout shades installed in six bedroom windows and faux wood blinds put in the kitchen and two bathrooms.

Bloom & Co. is listed on Angie's List as a company that does reupholstering and has a website that discusses their reupholstering and furniture repair history. When I called to inquire, they advised me that this is not something they do any more. I would have doubts about using them for anything else because they aren't together enough to change their advertising upon changing their company's direction, but I can't speak to their actual quality. Other reviews seem to suggest that it's good.

I did have to call several times to find out when they would be ready. If Richard was unavailable, I would always call back on Matthew's line, both are most helpful. When i call a business i like to speak to a person and not wait for a return call. Since some reviewers commented that they waited a while for a call back, i recommend calling both extensions or stopping in. As I said, the quality of the work was very good and my experience was positive. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I had two vintage chairs reupholstered in July and August. On the first, Richard quoted me $325 for an office chair and it came in right on budget. I did ask them to put new glides on the front legs since they were missing and they did forget, however when Richard's son Matthew came to pick up my second chair, he happily installed them. Richard quoted me $525 for my larger chair and they did a beautiful job and it came in well under budget at $375 which I thought was very reasonable. I provided my own fabric, hence the lower price. I did have to call several times to find out when they would be ready. If Richard was unavailable, I would always call back on Matthew's extension, both are most helpful.

Description of Work: We wanted window shades for 3 skylights; Matthew Bloom came to the house with sample materials and matched the color and style of the skylight shades to window shades he had installed years earlier. Color and style matched perfectly. Matthew gave us a quote taking measurements and pricing material. He delivered and installed the shades in the promised amount of time. His work is professional and conscientious. We are completely satisfied as we have been with previous window treatments and upholstery done by Bloom & Co. We recommend them without reservation.

Upon entering Bloom & Company's building, I found it very odd that I couldn't enter the showroom (there was a 'workroom' off to the left side). It was locked. Confused, I went back out to my car and attempted to call the company to find out what the scoop was. I called about 4 times but couldn't get through to anyone...just the voicemail. I double checked the website to ensure that the company was open, which it was. I went back into the building and into the workroom, where I saw two people re-upholestering chairs. I asked for some help, and an employee came over to help. It was really odd: she had on this sparkly Fourth of July looking headpiece (I'm not sure what to call it!) and told me that the there wasn't much to look at in the showroom because they were moving. She opened up the showroom for me to check out and when I started asking some questions about types of shades available, she told me that she didn't know and called her manager. Apparently he was on his way back to the showroom and told his employee to ask me to wait 20 minutes until he got back so I could be helped. I told them 'no thank you,' and went outside back to my car. It was a really bizarre experience and I will definitely not use this company in the future.

Unfortunately, when the customer came to visit we were in the process of moving to our new location and were not able to help her. Our old showroom was by appointment only and the customer never contacted us before coming in. We have now moved to a new location at 694 Mt Auburn St in Watertown and have a complete showroom open 6 days a week to the public. No appointment necessary. We have no record of any messages left by this customer or we would have followed up immediately.

'd read on Angie's List that this company wasn't alway great about communication but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt because their location was good for me.My first call was not returned. After making a second cal I met with Matthew. He was late for our meeting. He did call me 5 minutes before our meet time to say he was running late. We spent a good deal of my time on my day off discussing what I wanted done. Email estimate was sent to an incorrect email address and wasn't realized until I recalled to ask about it. Matthew didn't know I hadn't received it since he hadn't followed up to ask if I wanted to go forward with the plan. The email estimate was approx $900 more than we discussed during Matthew's visit during which I'd taken notes including retail prices of products and discounts available. When I asked for a breakdown of the charges Matthew asked me to call him at a planned day/time. However, when I called he didn't have the paperwork with him and he asked to email the information to me the next day when he'd be back in the office. Instead of receiving the email breakdown of the charges he sent an email saying the secretary had reorganized the office and he couldn't find the paperwork. He asked to be able to send it the following Monday. I haven't heard from him since and no longer trust this company's ability to follow through as promised.

I think the end product is good, not excellent, and I should have gotten estimates from other companies. I expected for the blinds and shutters to be expensive, but a few friends who have Hunter Douglas blinds and shutters tell me I definitely overpaid. I also don't believe the Company gave me the Angie's List discount. They told me later it was built into the price when I asked about it, but nothing on my itemized bill shows the discount. While the guys were very punctual on the actual service dates, the whole process took 3-1/2 months. I understand it took a month or so to get the shutters and blinds specially made, but there was a lot of dead time in between each visit. I had to check in with them several times after not hearing from them for weeks. Matthew did a nice job fitting the shutters in less than square windows, but the quality of the blinds installation was mediocre. I had to specifically ask the installer to try and make a set of blinds hung next to one another try to match up. They were over an inch different, and his response was "that's just how they're made." Ugh. I also had to ask Matthew later when he came to install the shutters to clean up a valance on the blinds that was sloppily installed. I really appreciated that he was willing to help with that, as well fixing some blinds that weren't working correctly, and requesting replacement slats from Hunter Douglasn for a few that arrived cracked and dinged up.

They did a very professional job. My only issue is that they are very slow and not good at returning phone calls. They took our chair in August and we heard nothing for 4 weeks. I was trying to call the con and finally had to call the dad due to them being so unresponsive. Finally, when I had reached the father he said they were waiting on us to pick the fabric, when in fact my wife had already given the fabric selection to the son. They provided quality work. The reupholstering was very good. But I would say they are very slow and non-responsive. Sometimes you have to call 2 or 3 times and wait days for a response.

I would give Bloom and Co an overall score of A minus. I took in an antique swivel desk chair to have the seat reupholstered in leather. The gentleman who waited on me was brusque and kept interrupting me when I was trying to explain what I wanted. I felt like he was rushing me although I was the only customer there at the time. I went ahead and left the chair and wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up. It was beautifully done, exactly what I had hoped for. The price was really reasonable because they were able to locate a leather remnant that was big enough to cover the seat although there wasn't a color choice, since it was the only remnant available. Luckily it's a nice color. So overall, I would recommend Bloom and Co and will probably use them again. They have a huge selection of fabrics and faux leathers, but I will probably shop around for price comparisons on fabric in the future. Customer service was a little rough, but in the end they did a great job.

I met with Matthew Bloom on Jan 15 to obtain an estimate for recovering a chair cushion and refilling 2 sofa cushions. At his suggestion I left the chair cushion with him and went to Joann fabric to purchase fabric for the project. He said he would call on Monday or Tuesday with quote, then we could get started. After I did not receive a call that week I called both Matthew and Richard the following week and left voice mail messages with no reply from either. I finally reached Matthew in early February. He attributed his lack of response to the previous week's snow. I asked if it was OK to mail the fabric as I work in Andover. He said sure and committed to providing the quote in the next day or two. Two weeks later, still not quote and my living room looks really shabby with an antique rocker with no cushion. So, I start trying to call again and none of the mailboxes - Matthew, Richard or general - would accept voice mails. Finally I sent a pleasant email asking them to email a quote. The only reason I did this vs. giving up was because Bloom had my oddly shaped cushion and fabric. Again, no reply and at this point I assumed they had gone out of business. About a week later I checked their website to see if it was still live and was surprised to see new promotions listed on their home page. So I called and again received voice mails. The general mailbox was still not accepting messages but was able to leave messages with both Matthew and Richard stating that a desire to have my cushion returned and if they did not I would leave an F rating on Angie's list. So for the first time in 2 months I received a reply. A borderline nasty message from Richard stating that Matthew had been out for a couple of weeks with a burst appendix; he sent me a quote via email; and to call back to let him know how to proceed. I scoured my email and did not find any reply from him and my trust at this point is so low that I am skeptical it was ever sent. So in summary, although I am extremely sorry for someone's illness it does not explain away two months of non responsiveness. Attempts to reach both Richard and Matthew were ignored, email was not replied to, and voice mail boxes did not work. Normally I would not waste my time with someone who obviously does not want my business, except that they still have my cushion and fabric, which I would happily take elsewhere if they would return it. I would also urge people considering a project with Bloom and co to look carefully at member reports as you will see other indicents of poor response with follow-up excuses from the company.

Richard Bloom was very responsive over email and he was able to give us a quote for the labor to reupholster the two chairs over email (fabric price depended upon what we chose). We went into the shop to select our fabric and found Matthew to be extremely helpful in the process as well as very skilled at managing (and responding to) the needs and questions of multiple customers at once. We felt well taken care of despite the small size of our project. The chairs were delivered back to us - looking terrific - less than two weeks later with the new fabric and new foam padding.
Description of Work: Reupholstered two kitchen-counter chairs which were showing the effects of a household with small children.
