We found him on Angie’s List. We have used his services multiple times. He is extremely professional. His costs may be a little more expensive, but he pays his workers well so they stay with him. His painters have been with him for a long time and they do a fabulous job. They are very trustworthy and conscientious. The quality of the work is superb! He absolutely excellent! We plan to have him back to complete additional work for us.

Abe is very professional and he employs real painters year-round. His painters are experts and are very detail-oriented. We were especially impressed with the team leaders on both jobs. No plants were destroyed when they did the outside (which was done in the fall) and they were careful to clean up after themselves on both the exterior and interior jobs. Abe does not provide repair services, but he can recommend someone to make repairs if they find rotted wood, etc when they are preparing the house for painting. Abe will walk through the job with you in advance of the start of the work. Be sure to let him know what you do not want painted because otherwise everything will be painted. This is important to think about if you have metal anywhere that you don't want painted. Also, be clear about any holes (such as for curtain rods) that you don't want filled. He takes notes and lets the team leader know. We were very happy with the work and found Abe to be easy to work with in terms of scheduling. We especially enjoyed his team of painters.

Abe was very helpful when he visited for an estimate, explaining the pros and cons of various approaches. He arrived with his team on schedule, and they worked constantly until the project was finished. I was concerned about dust from the ceiling work, and they put up very effective barriers which kept the rest of the house clean. The workers were friendly and courteous, and had minimal impact on the rest of the house. They did a thorough cleanup of the room at the end. The room looks really great - an even more impressive outcome than I had hoped.

Very professional team. Since the work took 3 days they made sure to clean up each night really well. The colors required many multiple coats (reds) that looked fantastic when done.

I have used them before and they are recommended by Angie's List. The experience is all positive. They do very careful, professional work and are responsive to all of our requests. The people he had working here were very considerate, cleaned up after themselves and left our landscaping and plantings all intact. It was a very pleasant experience working with them.

Abe did an outstanding job on the exterior of our house. He provided an estimate immediately after my call, providing a price that was extremely competitive (same or lower than three other quotes we received). He was also able to start the job immediately so that the time between estimate and completion was no more than three weeks. His crew is top-notch: they are polite, clean, hardworking and each of them has been with Abe over 10 years . The crew arrived at the house between 6:30 and 7am, and would stay until it became dark. Because we have small children and are worried about lead paint, each evening after they finished painting they swept and vacuumed the patio completely clean. We are neurotic on this issue, and it appears they are too! Finally, the work itself is beautiful. We have some complicated trim and they were masterful in their work. To add to this, they go above and beyond what's necessary, by cleaning and repairing our gutters. The crew explained that since they were up on tall ladders anyway, they may as well clean the gutters. Wow. I can't say enough great things about Abe and his crew. To those who gave him negative marks based on not receiving a timely estimate, my understanding is that Abe had some medical complications in his family last month and may not have been as available as normal. Either way, we based our decision to go with Abe on reviews by people who'd actually worked with him. I can confirm that he is a professional with an excellent crew that takes pride in their work.

I sent three written requests for information about getting an estimate for an exterior paint job and did not receive a response at all. If a company is busy or not available for a project, that is of course understandable; a simple reply saying so would have sufficed. I had tried to contact this company based on the Angie's List ratings and was quite surprised that they were not responsive.

We asked for an estimate for exterior painting of our entire wood-siding home. Abe Schickel came promptly and met with us. He recommended that we paint only the 1 side of the house that was most worn/chipped and touch up on other spots, to save costs. When he sent us the quote our jaw dropped. We had obtained 3 other quotes and Abe Schickel's quote for 1 side of the house exceeded that of the other quotes which covered all 4 sides including doors, trim, etc of the house. I'm glad we didn't let ourselves get ripped off by obtaining the one quote from Abe Schickel.

They came when they said they would and did a very nice job. The were careful when painting and the job is immaculate. They also stuck with the estimate and there wasn't any additional cost when the job was complete.

I have exclusively used Abe's services for the past three years, but had never written a review (he came to me recommended by a friend, not through the list.) I wouldn't ever consider using another painter. Abe is a remarkable professional, and a great guy. His crews are always friendly and remarkably skilled. In one of our rooms we have paneling from the 19th century, shipped here from Italy; it has so many shades in it that others said it was impossible to match. We had several others painters in years past try to match it, and the results were always terrible. After we had Abe redo a panel in this room, we asked people (including an interior designer) whether they could tell which panel wasn't original -- no one could do it. At this point, Abe has repainted much of our three-story house. The quality is obvious.

They are the best! Consummate professionals in every sense. They were punctual (usually early every day), nice, professional, and responsive. They paid attention to every detail, put plastic everywhere (even inside the closets) in order to keep the dust out of all of the rooms, and they cleaned up after themselves every day. The men worked about 12 hours a day and were always back the next morning before 7:30 a.m. They also came back to fix up a few small problems without complaint. I cannot recommend them more strongly.

Abe came out today to do an estimate for exterior painting. He provided a thoughtful assessment of what was needed including suggestions for power washing/ carpentry to fix rotting wood which was different from the larger painting job i had anticipated. Rather than simply give me an an estimate for painting the exterior, his review and analysis gave me a much better plan for what was needed. I appreciated his honesty and forthrightness.

As always, Charlie to the rescue when tenants panic over plumbing problems in a 1920s two-family house. He and his team are consistently friendly, courteous, and professional. I also rely on him for annual checking/flushing of gas furnace (which he installed).

Abe Schickel contacted me promptly and came to the home. He sent very detailed proposals for the interior and exterior work I wanted done, including information on how to choose colors, a check-list for preparation on my end, an impressive list of references, and a very professional cover letter with information about the company. Before the interior and exterior crews came (a week apart), Abe called to go over all details. When the crews arrived, they walked through the job and went over each detail (and did the same when they finished to make sure I was pleased). They were extremely professional, experienced, courteous, clean & personable. I was impressed that some of the crew have been working for many years with the company. Abe came to the house and checked in by phone frequently, including a phone call after both jobs were complete to make sure I was happy with the work. I cannot say enough good things about this top notch small company that prides itself on detail and professionalism. They are a pleasure to work with, I plan to use them again, and I will not hesitate to recommend them to others.

They were very good and very clean. We have had other painters before who got paint everywhere and so they were very careful, very thorough and paid attention to detail.

.From first to last Abe Schickel and his crew were informative (to the point of being educational), prompt, professional and courteous. The job could not have been done quicker or better- for a price that was more than fair. What more can one ask?

He was very thorough, walked around the house with me, etc. However he charged so much higher than the other estimates I received. Also, he said "We don't do that "for the replacement of a few shingles. I had the shingles already in storage. He told me that he could not do the removal of the shutters. He said that I had to buy all new ones., since it was impossible to remove the vinyl ones. The garage door and the shed were also a lot extra. I just wanted one inclusive price to compare with other estimates I got. He sent me a very detailed written estimate, but it was really exorbitant compared to the others. His office followed up with a few phone calls. However, I needed more work than his company could do. Subsequently I found someone who could do all the necessary work and was even cheaper. Since then, people have stopped at my house to inquire who I used., so I know it was an excellent job, as well as affordable.

The painters were thorough, professional, and courteous. They patiently helped me choose the color for my front door and helped me put the screens back on the windows.

Abe came in and gave a very thorough estimate. When the workers arrived, he took them through the entire job and was very specific about what needed to be done, and how it should be done. We had badly damaged walls behind our wallpaper (due to settling), and it was all fixed. We were really impressed that he managed to get the entire job done in two days. The crew was mindful of our possessions, and did a great job sealing the work area. Very little dust escaped the work area, and they cleaned up thoroughly, both days that they were here.

Abe was totally profession, and easy to deal with. His rate was good, and his company very easy to work with (and around).

He arrived on Friday morning. He did call four hours earlier to arrive early to the appointment. I followed up with him by email and he did not respond. I called him and he said he was going to get back with me that the house lead paint and he hadn't had a chance to get back with me. I did tell him time was of the essence and he could have been more responsive.

It's always difficult to have contractors working on your home, but Abe Schickel's crew made it less inconvenient than it could've been. They worked quickly but carefully and they completed the job in the estimated time window. They left the work area clean when they completed the job.

He was very good, straightforward and honest. He was professional, followed through and gave a reasonable quote. They did very good work and you can trust that the work will be done well. He had windows replaced and this company did a good job of caulking and painting the new window trim.
