Abe Schickel & Co Inc

Abe was extremely professional and thorough in his description of the workscope for each room. He does very detailed work and I think that was reflected in his price. Abe also provided a written quote within a week of reviewing the job. The packet also included a copy of his liability insurance, a certificate of No Complaints from the Better Business Bureau, and numerous references. Ultimately, we did not need this level of detail for our project and went with a company that was $1000 cheaper.

We were very happy with their work. They were service oriented. They were really meticulous on their preparation for the work and does not hover around the house. They were very good about cleanup. Everything was always kept very nice and neat. At the end of the day everything was cleaned up and put away. They honored any request we made as far as how to do things and how we wanted things left at the end of the day. When they painted the exterior of the house they did pressure washing. I don't remember how much we paid them.

The job was terrible. I picked him because he was not only higher priced but Angie’s List had him as perfect. I had received another estimate from somebody else that was $600, which I thought was ridiculously low, so I decided to go with him. He gave me lots of paperwork and fancy things that proclaimed they were the best. The two guys that showed up didn’t even have the name on the truck; I think he had hired them from somewhere, although he did say that they worked for him. They took off my new bannister and put it out in the cold and they were going to leave it there overnight. They had dust everywhere, so they tried to put the plastic up. I could not even walk in there and see what they were doing. I was very annoyed with them, and it was an effort to keep myself calm. When he came, I told him that the walls were a mess and were all bumpy and stuffy. He replied that since this is an old house, the results were what I could expect. He asked me if there was anything that he could do. I told him if he could fix at least the entryway, so that it looks okay, and he was able to do that. I wondered why he couldn’t do it in the first place. There was a dent in the second floor hallway. I asked him to fix that, and they did fix it, but they painted it a different color. They painted the first floor again, but they painted it a different color and the guy just touched it up on the second floor with the same paint. It is only a shade off, but it was not worth paying them all that money for that. I asked him if he would take my corner moldings off. He said that they would not and that they would paint around them, but they ended up painting them. There were stains to begin with. He told me that I was just too hard to please. He had to take them back and take all the paint off. They were just nailed to the corner, so I could take them off when I wanted them. When they put them back on, they glued them back on, so now I can’t even get them off. He told me he would come by my house to collect the money. I told him that I was very annoyed and that I would send him a check instead. I paid him in full. I don’t want to see the man again in my life.

He can do a lot of things and he will be painting the outside of my house in the spring.

I got detailed estimates from 5 painting firms highly rated on Angie?s list. I felt most comfortable with Abe Schickel. I believed I would get a thorough and high quality job at a reasonable price. He also turned out to have the lowest price. The job went smoothly. He gave me good advice on colors. His painters were friendly and professional. The wallpaper removal and patching of the plaster went smoothly. They worked with me to get the colors right. They always did a good job of cleaning up. There was a time constraint since I had family coming for Thanksgiving who would be using the rooms. They finished on time as promised. I recommend Abe Schickel without reservation.

He did a fantastic job. He had done some interior painting for me years ago and he had done an excellent job. I knew that his crew and folks that worked for him were all very good. He painted the entire house and the garage in three days which was very impressive. He came back himself to do a quality inspection and found some things that I did not even notice. He brought his crew back to touch up on a couple of spots. When I told him how happy I was with the job and told him that I would give him a good review on Angie's List, he told me that I was entitled to a 5% discount since I was a member. He took a few hundred dollars off the bill even though I had not asked or knew about the discount that they offered. I was very happy with every aspect of the service. I would absolutely use his services in the future.

They were very punctual and polite when they gave me a call back for an initial inquiry. I was very impressed with their professionalism. We decided not to do the work now though.

Estimate was offered day after I called up and work was performed in an excellent manner the next day and finished the day after. A very good experience..well priced, well done and quickly executed.

Abe and his crew were fantastic from start to finish. We were faced with a very tight schedule and Abe was willing and able to accommodate us and the crew got the job done in plenty of time. More importantly, the work that they did was outstanding and meticulous. While the price for the project wasn't cheap, we got more than we paid for and our expectations were exceeded. On the first day of the project, Abe arrived with the painters and carefully discussed the plan and schedule and took the time to address all of my questions and concerns. The two painters working on the job were very professional, courteous, hard-working, and efficient. The job was finished in two days, ahead of schedule, and looks fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abe Schickel and will definitely call him for my future painting needs.

Abe Schickel's crew did a superb job, from scraping off the surface to identifying needed carpentry repairs to doing a very careful job of painting. The team was very professional. They showed up on time, were careful about their processes and cleaned up each day after their work, leaving the premises free of any debris. As important, Abe Schickel was actively involved in the process, drawing on his expertise and pointing out items that his crew needed to address, and pointing out carpentry repairs that needed to be carried out. Abe's employees are very good - great fellows and very effective - but they (and customers) benefit from Abe's direction. The price is higher than you might get elsewhere, but I think it's worth the slight premium.

I have nothing but praise for this company. From the very start things proceeded in a professional way as the owner came out to give me an estimate and we went over expectations for the job. When the crew came they were wonderful. Very professional, diligent, and hard-working. And the level of quality in the painting was superb. I got estimates from two other contractors for this job and am so glad that I chose Abe Schickel. He gave the only estimate that was for hand-painting (brush and roller, rather than spray paint) that came in for a reasonable price. There was tons of detail work on my house and it was all done well. The clean up was also amazing. Every day I went outside with a bag to pick up paint chips so that my dogs wouldn't get them, and there were none! On the final day, they also did a whole-site cleanup and left everything perfect. I can't see any reason to use any other painter. Emerson and his crew were terrific. They even made friends with my dogs. Thanks guys!

We didn't use them. They were very professional and returned my call quickly. They gave us a quote when they came out and then sent one in the mail. There were no problems. He was a little bit late.

Abe is very professional, and his estimate is detailed and professional. This company painted the exterior of my house a few years ago and did a very nice job. After interviewing three companies, I opted to go with a gentleman who was highly recommended by a few friends and has done painting for 24 years. The painter worked on his own and came out to do the estimate, so I liked that I was able to meet the person doing the work and ask questions. After the job was done, I was disappointed I didn't go with Abe Schickel & Co. because I felt my prep work and repairs would have been better. Abe's quote was the highest of the three quotes, but that was before the Angie's List discount. After the discount, he still might have been slightly more than what I paid, but not enough to sway me. I think his company is well managed and would definitely use them again.

He was very professional with the quoting process. He hasn?t done any work for us. There was nothing about him that really stood out, or that I disliked. His quote was a little bit more expensive than that of the others.

Everything went fine, but we could not afford his pricing. His pricing was in line with quality of his work. We would consider calling him again for future services.

My overall experience was positive. He handled himself well and explained things.

The company was a pleasure to deal with. They were efficient, polite and helpful. However, the estimate was relatively high reflecting I am sure the very good quality work they do - but that was not really necessary for repainting a room that I rent out and will likely need to be painted again next summer. I would definitely use them if I had a really beautiful house and wanted it to look good.

The estimate was the highest out of 4. Based on other estimates and scope of work, I decided to use another company.

Excellent work, very professional, respectful, staff cleaned up well each day. Abe was in touch and on top if it, gave very specific instructions to his staff based on the wishes of the condo association. He really knows his stuff....you just can't go wrong with his company. When I want my own unit painted, I will be contacting him! I'm afraid I don't have the cost of the job, but I know it was reasonable and competitive.

Mr. Shickel was extremely detailed and the quintessential professional. The price was higher than others so we haven't made a decision yet.

Very professional. Just considerably more expensive with the contractor we went with and they didn't have an in-house carpentry person. It's good to have that on hand if needed. You want a painter with carpentry skills or one that can bring that aboard quickly.

They were very professional, and gave a very detailed quote. They were also great kind, and were prompt. If we decide to do this project we would probably use them.
