Ed and his crew of one was knowledgable and professional. He was talkative about what he was doing and why he used the products he did and why my old pump had failed. He was recommended by John Regan septic pumping. I felt I was fortunate to to get everything lined up and the work completed, including system pumping in about 4 hours after my initial phone call. When you're in a situation that your septic system isn't working you really don't have much time to shop around but rather take recommendations from those you trust. So, I don't know if I was over charged or not. He did give me a ball park price before starting the work which he met.

There was considerable digging to replace some connection pipes and you would never know he was here. All of the turf was replaced perfectly and the yard looks great. My husband and dad oversaw the work and felt that the billing was very reasonable and honest. IT has only been a week but fingers crossed-there are no issues. I would use Ed again and appreciate he and his team coming out on such short notice and during such a nasty storm.
Description of Work: Our septic alarm started sounding on the day before hurricane Sandy hit. We called a septic pumping contractor who helped us connect to Ed. He came out during the hurricane and was on site for 2 days.

I have previously used Ed as he was the regular maintainer for the septic tank when we purchased our house. When our septic tank failed the first time, he was relatively punctual and professional and his price to replace the pump was less than I've heard others charged. It wasn't a perfect experience but I didn't have much to compare to. Earlier this month our plumbing started backing up, though this time the septic alarm was not going off. We called Ed first, unsure if he would want to look at the issue or just have us call a regular plumber. He showed up with his usual helper, dug out the tank (I had already shovelled most of the snow out of the way), and inspected it. What then followed was a lot of looking at pipes, finding the plumbing lines in the house, banging and mumbling, and after a couple hours he handed me a bill for $750. Ed overcharges for labor. This is the second time he left to go off somewhere during the work to get tools or something, and then charged for three hours of labor because he was technically 'on the job' for 2 hours and fifteen minutes. Either he is being dishonest or just comes to a job unprepared, I'm not sure which it is. Also, Ed is extremely matter of fact and does not talk much at all; he comes off like he doesn't want the pesky homeowner getting in the way of his work. Unfortunately when your septic is on the fritz, a modicum of reassurance, and an explanation of what might be going wrong is a desirable trait. The end result is that for $750 our septic was unblocked for five days. Then it backed up again. I had had it by then and called a different company who charged me a third of the price and the problem has not occurred again. All in all, I cannot recommend Ed or Septic Pump Lift Station for septic service.
