I think they are one of the better pool service companies in my area, and I had been pleased with their service until this year's opening. We've had a dispute over being billed for a completed opening, when the floor jet system was left clearly non-functional. Two phone calls about the issue went unanswered, but they responded to my email. We have a factual dispute about the charges for and purpose of a third visit by company's pool technicians. We hopefully can resolve this matter.

Description of Work: The company performed all services for the neighborhood pool as required. The only problem was with consistent communication ... about schedules, what chemicals to use, how to handle issues. Sometimes the explanations were unclear/incomplete, or they contradicted previous instructions and information from other sources. In some cases, according to the technician, discrepancies simply didn't matter. | |We will continue using the service because the company is very familiar with our pool, and that knowledge is invaluable.

The job went great. The whole team and there was a lot of work done, Demo, grading, landscaper, decking, plumbing, electrician were all amazing. Ken gives you his cell phone number and you can text or call and he gets right back to you - never any waiting. The service and quality were so great that we contracted with PUR after the job was done. We hired PUR to close our pool and install a new LoopLoc (Elephant Cover). I am not one to write a review, but due to the wonderful experience from Ken and the full PUR team, they earned this review. You owe it to yourself to call Ken before you sign on with another firm. Good Luck!
Description of Work: Our pool was an old McRuddy pool built in late 70s and needed a full refurbishing. We hired Pur to demo the existing decking and refurbish the pool. We met with a lot of different companies and Ken's professionalism and positive attitude was one of the best I have ever seen in the industry. Ken met with us many times at our house to discuss design, process, timeline - and many other smaller details. Not one other pool provider put in the attention and listened to what we wanted to do. Ken rec'd the gold star for service and even had our young children participate in the design, color choosing - it was the greatest experience we have had in our last 20 years of being a homeowner. Ken has raised the bar for customer service so high, no other contractor will ever be able to meet.

This company installed my liner in 2005. They were reasonable in price. That is where their performance ends. They were asked to repair some minor cracks that my automated pool cleaner hangs on. The new liner went in and the cracks were still there. I would have gladly paid extra for fifteen minutes of crack filling. They also left the liner retaining bead (7 feet) hanging off the edge, floating in the pool. The liner had a major wrinkle. They said it would work its way out. It never did. When I called them to ask that the liner retainer bead installation be completed, it took two weeks before they returned to seat it. Two summers ago, my laterals blew out and the filter sand all went into the shallow end. Though I carefully shoveled it out, I must have sliced some small holes in the liner. Though my experience was not that great with Pure Aqua, since they installed the liner, I called them and explained that I was loosing an inch a day (perhaps 1000 gallons a day into my hill and expressed urgency. I asked for a repair diver to come out. Still adding water every day, two weeks went by. I called again and was told that my request "slipped through the cracks." A week later they sent a guy out. My son said the guy was messing around with my filter. Two more weeks went by as I continued to loose water into my hillside at 1000 gallons a day. Finally a guy representing himself as the owner came out and said, "frankly sir we don't have a diver right now but we are trying to hire one." I asked who I should call. He would not make a recommendation. He suggested using the yellow pages. I went to McCarthy Pools in Southborough. They had it fixed in three days. I was very patient through the whole ordeal. A few months later I received a bill for about $175 from Pure Aqua. I called and asked to talk to the owner. The secretary was not helpful and said I needed to pay. The next month I received another bill. I called again and nicely asked to talk to the owner. This time the woman was short with me and said to pay the bill. The next month I received another bill. Each time I called and each time the secretary became more and more harsh. Frankly, she is mean as a wounded rattle snake. After many months of my attempts to clear this up, they sued me for $175 in small claims court in Waltham. The judge was unsympathetic and I paid. If you are all about price, go with these guys. I pay a little more now for service and am very happy with McCarthy Pool.
Description of Work: Installed liner and performed other requested service.

It went extremely well! I had been struggling for a month with this problem. I was using the technical department of the company from which I purchased the pool (located in Pennsylvania) and one of their local factory trained "experts." It was a mistake to try to handle the issue myself. After a month of failure using that route, I called Puraqua (based on Angie's List ratings). That was a wise move. They quickly solved the problem with knowledge and intelligence, and they did that at a reasonable cost (especially when compared with what I had wasted using the other approach). I would strongly recommend them for anyone who needs pool service!

Even though I did not end up needing service, knowing how helpful and honest this company is made me want to leave a review. If I do end up needing pool service in the future, I would not hesitate to contact them again.
Description of Work: I called because I was in charge of keeping an eye on a pool while the owners were out of town. Something happened unexpectedly and I did not how to backwash the filter. The woman who answered walked me through it and said she could certainly schedule somebody, but it was very easy to do and she gave me clear instructions.

Description of Work: We have been using Puraqua for many years. ( > 25) They are reliable, reasonably priced, helpful, professional, and responsive to issues or needs that arise. We have had our liner replaced x2 , our motor replaced and our pool opened and closed by Puraqua. We have always been very satisfied with our service. There have been times when more than one phone call was needed, but this is much better than any service I have had with any other pool company and it was at very busy times of the year.

I liked Mark as my service tech. If I didn't get him sometimes I would not get quality work. It would be inconsistent. They had a problem with staffing and dropped Ashland, then they picked our town back up. It is difficult when you start with them and then they can't service your town. So I no longer use them. Their pricing is good and they are timely, when you can get them. Some techs were friendly and some were not so friendly. They would just come and do the work and leave. The inconsistency is just not worth it, even though they knew sand filters, which is what I have.
Description of Work: Pureaqua Pool Service Inc. opened, closed and serviced my pool. The price listed was to open the pool, with me removing the cover.

We had Tom come out first thing on a Monday morning to take a look at our pool. As a new pool owner, we were clueless as to why we couldn't get our water balanced after increasing chlorine and shocking the pool. Tom and his co-worker were great. He asked for a full run down of what we'd been doing, tested the water for us, cleaned the pool, and offered suggestions on how to move forward. Most important, he was extremely patient and answered all of our new pool owner questions in detail. We had gone with another company for "pool school", but only got a general overview of how the pool functions and how we should maintain. The visit from Puraqua really helped with determining additive amounts and a weekly maintenance schedule. The price was more than other service companies that we called, but they came recommended and we were happy with our experience.
Description of Work: We had a hard time maintaining our chlorine level. They came out, analyzed the water, cleaned the pool, and ran through our system to make sure everything was working properly.

Arrived on time, completed the work in less than 1 hour, very professional and pleasant, price was extremely high. I'm a first-time pool owner and hardly qualified to asses the quality of the work done, but it seems fine. Puraqua charged me the full $450.00 to close it, despite the fact that the pool is small and the work was completed in less than 1 hour. I've since learned from several other pool owners, with much larger pools, that they pay between $100-$200 dollars to close their pools. Learning this, I have no doubt that Puraqua tool advantage of my inexperience as a pool owner by charging me $450 for the pool closing. I will never hire them again.
Description of Work: Pool closing. Puraqua gave high-end estimate of $450, but said the cost could be less depending on size of the pool and how long it would take to do the work. My pool is small and the work was done inside of 1 hour.

From the very beginning the men working were extremely pleasant and very kind. They worked very hard and really knew what they were doing. The supervisor, Ken, checked the work and made sure all went well. This was a really difficult job because of the access too the pool but they managed to do all the work as clean as possible and certainly in a pleasant manner.
Description of Work: Puraqua removed the concrete from around our pool. They drained the pool and removed the existing liner. They repaired the coping, main drain, walls, skimmer, return fittings and re-plumbed back to filter. They installed new foam pads and re-troweled the pool bottom. They also installed a corner set of stairs and new liner. They virtually installed a new pool for us.

Not knowing what course to pursue, we sought the advice of Mr. Besso at Central Pools, and even scheduled a meeting one Saturday and went out to see him and show him photos of the pool. He apologized on behalf of Ken and Puraqua, and assured us that someone would be out to evaluate the problem and plan some solution. It never happened. No one ever called, no one came out to look at the pool, and we heard nothing from anyone.
Description of Work: In 1993 and in 2004 we chose Puraqua/Central Pools for major maintenance, including installation of new liner(s) at a cost of $2100 and $2600. When we removed the cover this spring, we found that the liner had come loose from the track in several places around the rim of the pool. As usual, we called Puraqua to come over and tuck it all in. The service person came one afternoon, but we noticed that nothing had been done. We received a phone call from a person at Puraqua and were told that the problem was not routine liner fallout, but the track separating from the wall. He said he would need to come out and take some pictures, and consult with someone with more experience in order to determine what might need to be done, and would get back to us. We never heard back from anyone, and when we finally called to get a status, we were told in rather curt terms that Puraqua wanted nothing further to do with the problem and could not even recommend someone who might be willing to help.
