+ -1 morePretty bad. Phil was very stubborn and believed we owed him $1,000. The work only took a few hours and I could not imagine how they could charge that much even if they hadn't caused the problem. For any other work we had done with them of that magnitude we had gotten an estimate and signed off on it before work began. I tried over a 9 month period to resolve the issue with Phil, but he failed to respond to my outreach by mail and phone. Each month the invoice came again marked overdue. His office staff said they understood but Phil had to take care of it. He did not return my calls until my husband left a very angry message for him. He finally responded and was so nasty. In the end I paid him $250 to settle the issue as I didn't want to leave it unresolved. In general their service was OK, but prices very high.
Description of Work: Seeded patches of lawn which they had damaged during their spring clean up. I requested they repair the damaged lawn. No estimate was given, only a bill following the service which I thought would be complimentary as they had caused the damage

Description of Work: General contractor wanted to discuss what he thought was excessive cost of equipment provided. Instead of a simple discussion with GC about this minor issue and resolving it one way or the other Mastroianni simply told the GC that he would "Slap a lien on the property". Very unprofessional and that $200-$300 issue cost him a shot at an executed $160,000 landscaping job as well as a continuing relationship for weekly upkeep when done. Simply bad judgement leading to costly error.

+ 0 morePhil Sr. and Phil Jr. came out, provided ideas and suggestions which included lifting each of the AC units, leveling and grading the back area, then installed pavers. They showed up when they said they would, worked with us and kept us updated on progress and any issues. They were prompt, professional and were very intent on making sure the job was done the right way. They were very easy to deal with, and have a great reputation in the area and very honest. The quality of the job was top notch and since the work was done 2 of the condo's have been sold, both new owners told us that it was because of the nice patio in the back that helped them to decide to purchase in our building. We had them back last spring to trim back some trees and they were great. We wanted them to come back and cut the trees back further and they came out and took care of it without charging us extra. Very reputable and we will definitely use them for other large jobs.
Description of Work: We have a building with 4 townhouses, each with a small patio in the back and central AC units that were on a slab of foundation that was starting to sink. We had them come out and provide quotes and design suggestions for what to do with the back area. The patios were small and the grass surrounding wouldn't grow and it would end up a muddy mess when it rained. Therefore, the condo owners would rarely use the space.

+ -1 moreVincent (one of Phil's sons) was extremely professional and punctual. He communicated with me several times leading up to the actual work and then showed up that morning with the sod, seed and two helpers. They worked diligently and professionally, letting me know each step that they were going to be taking before they did it. In my mind, it was a complicated job because some of the back and side yard were in good shape, while the rest was covered in weeds and rocks; so they had to get all of the rocks and weeds out of the affected areas, till it, get it ready for the sod, and then actually lay down the sod. They also planted seed in the small gaps between sod and existing grass (the sod obviously comes in rectangle pieces, and they stitched into the existing lawn) and gave good direction on how often to water. It has now been about 3 weeks and the yard looks great! We highly recommend Mr. Mastroianni.
Description of Work: They laid sod and planted grass seed for us to fill in where construction from another contractor left the yard in bad shape.

+ -1 moreDuring a storm one of our 25' tree got uprooted and was leaning on my neighbors tree. He saved tree on very short notice. My regular landscape contractor offered to cut the tree and remove it. But Phil agreed to save it. He brought enough crew to straighten the tree after removing the top, and stabilize it. It is still stable and growing 6 months later.
Description of Work: He cut the top of a tree and straightened it out. Installed a pole to keep the tree from falling again.

+ 4 moreJUNE 2013 - Just a quick update .... the garden popped to life beautifully this spring! It is such a treasure to behold , that people tell me they walk their dogs 5 blocks out of their way just to see it every day! - That pretty much says it all! 8-]
Description of Work: I do not know where to even start!! In fact i have been procrastinating writing up my praises because I did not know when I'd have enough time to cover every detail! From start to finish, I could not be happier. The scope of the project was enormous and through out, everyone from the senior managers/owners to the young apprentices were totally focused on my pleasure sometimes minute by minute as each brick was laid ! I had a small garden completely removed. They started by digging up all of my plants shrubs etc which had become quite a collection over 14 years. They burlaped everything for re-use in the new garden, or relocation to another part of the side yards. Then they jack hammered out ancient cement walks and patio. Then, using heavy equipment dug down 4 feet to create a fresh start for the new garden. From that point, they poured new footing for the new terrace and laid out brick walkways using 'hard pack' I will admit that I am rather picky and wanted a unique yet architecturally consistent look to go with my 110 year greek revival home that I have been restoring since 1998. The team was amazing with respect to their patience for the details. They brought several samples of bricks, new and antique as well as 2 kinds of cobblestones for the edgers. Since the scope of work covered so many different trades, there were 3 teams here, The arborists removing scrappy Norway Maples, the masonry team and then the landscape team. at the end of each day they left my property in neat 'broom clean' condition!! Even the 'mess' was attractive! The garden came out better than I could have possibly dreamed. Not only do my neighbors stop and stare .. people walking by from the connecting street walk up to see it!! It's a joy to behold! [ and this was the short story ] I will try to upload pix

+ -1 moreDana was very knowledgeable, through and professional. He came to give the estimate and responded very quickly to my needs. The day that the work crew came, there were 3 really nice guys. They reviewed with me what they were going to do, were polite, clean cut and did a really good job.
Description of Work: They removed dead wood from a tree that was hanging over a neighbors yard, trimmed another tree that was hanging over power lines, another neighbors tree that was hanging over my driveway. Also removed a lot of brush in the backyard. I've used them previously for other situations, one being an emergency.

I significantly bet that they are better than others and like I said they have done work for us in the past. They told me that they're going to be here at 8:30 in the morning and they were here at 8:30 in the morning. The tree is gone and the ground is stumped out. They were very responsive and showed up on time. They started work on a weekday and I live probably six or seven hundred feet away from an elementary school. They were very progressive with all the mummies parking on the road, taking their kids to school and stuff like that. They were very professional.

+ 0 moreA company's representative came to give an estimate for trees removal and overall landscaping. During their estimate they seemed very proffesional, but that's where their proffesionalism ends. Despite several emails asking for the estimate, I am still waiting for a response. The last email from Jan 11, 2011, said that I will receive an estimate by email and a formal estimate by mail in the next few days - a month has passed and nothing. In my opinion this reflects their poor costumer service and irrespect to the costumer (not to mention waste of my time). Would I recommend their service? As far as I'm concerned, no, there are so many other good companies.
Description of Work: We needed a big landscaping work which included removing a dozen trees and setting up a lawn and irrigation. A company's representative came to give an estimate for the trees removal and overall landscaping.

+ -1 moreMark Young, the arborist, was very responsive once I finally got a hold of him. The company is obviously very busy, and it took nearly two weeks to get a phone call back (after multiple tries on my end). He finally gave me his cell phone number and things went very smoothly from there. He was able to come within a few days for an estimate, and once the paperwork for the estimate was prepared, Mark was able to complete the job within a timely manner. We were very pleased with his work once it was completed. However, I had also tried to use the landscaping business, but it took over two weeks of phone tag to talk to someone--many attempts of not answering phone calls. Once I finally was able to talk to the owner, I was taken aback with his unfriendly conversation and lack of interest in assisting us with our needs. He suggested that I speak with a landscape architect instead, and promised to e-mail me that contact information. Needless to say I didn't receive this information. I highly recommend using Mark Young the arborist, but not the rest of the company.
Description of Work: We had just purchased a new home, and the trees on the property were in desperate need of pruning and trimming especially for safety reasons and resting on the roof.

They came and gave an estimate and took the tree away within two hours. They were very responsive. I called other companies and apparently nobody works on Sundays. One guy I called said to go online and find somebody else. The cost was reasonable.

+ -1 moreFantastic job! Crew showed up at 9:15am and worked through to 5pm. Everything was done by the end of the day except for removal of stumps. Company came back a couple of days later to finish the job. Backyard & driveway were left spotless.
Description of Work: Removed two (2) large trees from backyard, including removal of tree stumps. Branches were chipped into mulch on site. Remainder of trees cut into sections, loaded onto their truck & taken away. All debris in yard was cleaned up & removed.
