+ 0 moreWe were rennovating the laundry room floor for our condo complex. Mal Elfman's provided a timely & professional estimate. In addition they gave us helpful advice on the best flooring options for the room. Utlimately we went with a low cost experiment (concrete patchwork and epoxy paint). Mal Elfman's did all the demo and concrete patching. They arrived early every day and did good work. They had to come back a second time to finish after we had a plumber unhook our dryers. Overall, theyid great work at a good price. I'd definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Removal of old tile flooring and subflooring. Cleaning and patchwork on concrete floor.

Great price and super fast service. Everyone getting their floors redone should drop by their store and see the great product selection and have them bid on your job. And ask for Scott's crew by name!
Description of Work: We had the floors in our new house refinished and carpet removed and hardwood floors installed in the master bedroom before we moved in. Peter was the sales & scheduling person, Scott was the foreman on the job along with his younger brother Jeff who was here onsite most of the time. Peter managed to squeeze our job in on very short notice so that we could have the floors done before our furniture arrived. Really appreciate them going out of their way to accommodate our moving schedule.

+ -1 moreMy husband contacted them by phone and scheduled a date to have the existing carpeting in our condo re-stretched. They were able to come in on pretty short notice - less than a week. The workmen arrived during the stated one hour time frame and went right to work. They assisted in moving a few pieces of furniture and worked around me as I was trying to get some painting done in another part of the condo. They vacuumed up the pieces of trimmed carpet when they were done. The results made a great improvement in the appearance. It took them about an hour to do the work.
Description of Work: We had them re-stretch carpeting that was in place. It loose and wrinkled but otherwise in good shape. We had not purchased the carpeting from them. In total it was approximately 66 square yards of carpeted area.

+ -1 moreI was impressed from the minute I walked into their store and was greeted by the guys who were working that day. The store front is nothing fancy, but the selection is huge yet not overwhelming as the people who work there were so knowledgeable. They led me to a couple of sample racks and gave me time and input when requested. I chose a linoleum that looked very much like tile. That afternoon, a gentleman came to our house to do the measurements. They ordered the materials and by the beginning of the following week they were at our hosue installing. My husband was here when the installer arrived and said they were very professional and did a great job. You can't see the seams and the floor looks fabulous. I will definitley use their services again.
Description of Work: We had a new linoleum floor put in our kitchen, hall and half bathroom.

+ -1 moreThe process from start to finish took several days, which we expected. The guys were very professional, taping off doors and cleaning after they were done. The floors look fantastic. My husband had done the 3 bedrooms and hallway upstairs by himself, which took him over several months to finish. Hiring someone to do the last two rooms was well worth the time and money. I would highly recommend this company to anyone else looking for someone to redo their hardwood floors.
Description of Work: We have hardwood floors throughout our house and we needed to have the living room and dining room floors sanded, stained and polyerithaned. The guys came in on Thursday, sanded, stained and applied a coat of poly to both floors. They returned the next day and finished the poly.

+ -1 moreThis was a big area, but we got a high-quality remnant at a very reasonable price. The installers were excellent--the best we've seen. There are big savings if you can get a carpet remnant instead of ordering new carpeting.

+ -1 moreMy kitchen floor and back hall needed replacing. I went to Mal Elfman's in Waltham and Dave Ryan and another young man were very helpful and informative in helping me make a selection. After I made my choice, I began to doubt it would look good in my kitchen, but when Dave came out to measure, he brought the sample and I could see it would work and I knew I liked it. The installers were on time, and were very neat and cleaned up very well afterwards. They were also careful of my cat who was curious but not a pest. I was concerned about her as I had just gotten her from the Animal Rescue League.

+ -1 moreI was searching for a no-nonsense place that would take a phone order for a common-type neutral-color Berber rug to replace the one that was in a rental unit that had been flooded. The timing was essential. Elfman's was the only store to give an immediate estimate, assure me that it would be installed as the timeline demanded, and not insist that I go to the showroom. My only complaint is that the quality wasn't as good as the one it replaced, and I realized later that no pad was put down between the cement floor and the carpet. Good company for utilitarian, lower-end carpet at reasonable price and prompt service.Remember to ask for a pad.

+ -1 moreGreat job, friendly helpful people. Sales guy Alan provided lots of help in finding the right carpet to do the job at the right price. No high pressure selling, just useful information. When sample of most likely carpet was not available, he contacted the manufacturer and had them mail sample directly to me so I wouldn't have to make another trip to store. Work prepping our basement took longer than expected. Elfman's raised no issues about holding the carpet that arrived until we were ready to take it. Installation team arrived on time, double checked on approach for some of the rooms being carpeted, helped my husband figure out best binding for runner going up the stairs. Showroom is not fancy but they have good products and good service. Would use them again and recommend them.

Description of Work: I asked Mal Elfman's to quote a vinyl flooring job for our kitchen. When my husband and I visited the showroom, it took approximately 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our presence. This puzzled us because we were even return customers, having used them for carpeting twice before. Finally we talked with Steven, and began the process of arranging an appointment for an estimate based on a product we'd already identified. That's when things really started to go bad. Communication did not happen in the time frame originally promised. The estimator finally did come, but apparently did not fully report his findings to the salesman. After three back and forth phone calls where I did most of the leg work, I got a strange, catch-all "estimate" that was very difficult to interpret. I gave Steven one more call, hoping to get him to work out a clearer estimate. He simply directed me to do the math myself! This happened even though he was aware that I had an existing estimate from a highly-rated local competitor. I guess he didn't want my business that badly.

+ -1 moreTheir price was really high. I went in to talk to them and I got really crummy service. Their place looked like a mess. I decided I would not use them no matter what. I was surprised. The guy who came out and measured seemed fine, but when I went to the store, it was just awful. I couldn't get anyone to wait on me. It looked like the kind of store where you would have to paw through a bunch of junk. It was really distasteful. I had three estimates and their price was over $1,000 more than the other two. They sent somebody right away. I would never even get an estimate from them again.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Mal Elfman's to carpet a front hallway and stairwell.

I won't comment on the price since I don't know how their price compares with that of others, but in terms of the quality of their work it was very fair and I would go back to them again and recommend them to our friends.

+ -1 moreWe really like the carpet we got from them. For the oriental style runners, we needed someone who could cut those angles and match everything up so it ends up looking and working okay. The expert that they used is subcontracted and he had a little trouble keeping to schedule. Elfman?s was not happy with him and they were very helpful on my behalf getting it straightened out. It took a little longer than we would have expected but the work was great. The guy that has been helping us has been terrific, patient, and very informative. There haven?t been high-pressure sales at all which I really appreciate. He was really helpful with my basement carpet: he let me pick, gave me a lot of samples, and he didn?t care how long I had them. I would definitely recommend them, they have a lot to pick from, they are very patient, and they are very helpful with explaining how to evaluate the different carpets. They were very neutral, they didn?t push me toward the pricier display, and I don?t think they cared what I chose.
Description of Work: Mal Elfman’s did custom runners up our stairs and in the hallway. We have also ordered carpet for our basement which will be put in soon.

I had the initial problem of having to get it all done within a three day window of time, and it had to be done within one week of the day I walked into the shop. He had someone over to check out the job within the day, had the chosen tiles delivered to the shop, arranged for the job to happen. He was totally on top of it, courteous, efficient, didn't miss a beat. The installer, Alex, arrived with two assistants, moved out the kitchen appliances, worked incredibly hard (the old floor and what was underneath it were a mess), and I had a picture-perfect kitchen floor by the end of the day. Great experience.
Description of Work: Kitchen vinyl tiling: They estimated; provided the selected 'luxury vinyl tiling'; removed old adhered tiling; skim coated the floor; laid down 200+ sq. feet of tile.

+ -1 moreWe spent over a year researching Boston area hardwood floor sales and installation companies. We encountered bait and switch elsewhere and found no other vendor to be able to provide the specific flooring that we needed to go over a cement slab. Not only did Mal Elfman?s provide us with the proper information to install what we needed, but the price was considerably lower than all other quotes including nationally advertised companies. We had the floors installed in 1,200 square feet and remarkably, the work was done in four days including ripping out and disposing of our old, ugly carpets. At days end, the house was clean and returned to a habitable configuration. We did not have to move out even for a night. The installers were polite, hardworking and professional. We would hesitate to hire Mal Elfman?s again.
Description of Work: We had Brazilian Cherry engineered floors installed in 1,200 square feet and had the old carpet removed.
