Caution! This plumber has a temper. He advertises "free estimates" but was going to charge me for one. When I reminded him of his ad for free estimates and that I would not pay his charge, he absolutley lost it. He became very loud and very abusive and threatened to take me to Small Claims Court. He spent 20 minutes assessing my problem. His verbal estimate included replacing my tub/shower fixtures which were less than a month old and worked just fine. The problem was the manner in which they were installed behind the wall originally. This was Friday. He said he would call on Monday. He did not call until Tuesday at 8:00 PM. In the meantime, a licensed plumber I had had look at my problem days earlier, called to tell me he had a solution for me and came on Tuesday morning with a diverter which he installed at no charge. He only charged $10.00 for the cost of the diverter. It works great. I do not want Mike Hickey calling me or coming to my property. He was so abusive that I will get a retraining order against him if he contacts me again.
Description of Work: When the water in the tub is turned on, water was coming from both the tub spout and shower head. An unlicensed plumber did the installation incorrectly behind the wall. The spout and shower head were both brand new and worked just fine. I wanted an estimate to correct the problem.

He had worked on a prior occasion with another contractor who had hired him as a subcontractor. They were punctual and their price was reasonable.
Description of Work: I used Hickey’s Plumbing & Heating a couple of years ago. They installed a humidification system.

THIS IS THE SCOPE OF WORK: I did a complete renovation - removed radiators, put in a new heating and A/C system. Removed the older steam system with a new forced hot air/central a/c system. I completely gutted the kitchen and bath. He did the de-installation and re-installation of everything.
Description of Work: THIS IS A DESCRIPTION OF MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CONTRACTOR: When I presented a list of what I wanted in my contract, I was handed a summary (brief version without my detail) to be signed. I asked for more detail. I was given the "trust me" - to ask for more was "out of the question". I trusted our verbal conversation but did not get what was promised in the end. I wanted a "state of the art" system - I got an end of life A/C compressor that haven't been sold in 2-3 years according to a major supplier. It became outlawed recently. It was probably a "left over" or he got a "deal". He did quote the model #, but I trusted it was a "state of the art" system - it was far from it. The furnace was more up to date, but not top of the line. The plumber himself was reasonably pleasant, although a little gruff. He was usually prompt. This was the first time I embarked on a total renovation project on my own. (I did build a house before where I did more investigating in selecting the builder.) Some work had to be redone, because he took the easy way out and didn't meet the code required by the manufacturer. He also thought I wouldn't notice, but one of the other sub contractors pointed it out to me. These are things the inspector doesn't check, so he thought he could slip them by me. I was amazed that the inspector didn't know about the A/C standards being changed and neither do they check that out! The inspector doesn't check other important connections that are behind the wall (understandably). So, the plumber knows what he can easily get away with. BUYER BEWARE! These people are not professional in their business dealings. I would not recommend them for such a large project if you are an unsuspecting end user like I was. They might be OK in handling a small job...but my job was a major undertaking. I learned a lot!

The member acted as her own GC on this project which made it difficult because she does not have the qualifications to do this, building a home previousley with a GC does not make you qualified. The member had no plans when Hickey's was brought on board, and if she didn't like where something was placed, she would demand it be redone. As far as cutting corners, she is talking about her Range Hood install, when the original duct was installed, it was installed for a standard 4" duct, there was no Range Hood on site at that time, and when the member finally bought a hood (one year later) it was a high end, so the duct had to be changed to accomodate, this was not an install error, it was a planning error, again no plans. The member changed her mind many many times as to where fixtures would be, so alot of confusion, wasted time, redos, which all adds to the bottom line. Hickey's Plumbing and Heating stands by their work, and we are sorry that The member was not satisfied, we tried unsuccesfully to reason with her. The overall project took about two years, so my question to the member would be why did the project take so long, and if you were not happy with the progress and workmanship, why didn't you tell Hickey's prior to the end of the project ? You can't please everyone, but 99% of Hickey's customers are extremely happy, check out our other reviews on Angie's List as well as ServiceMagic.

His professionalism, punctuality and price stood out. He did the work on his own but he had an electrical subcontractor help him out. I would absolutely use him again.
Description of Work: I used Hickey's Plumbing & Heating for HVAC work. He installed a steam humidifier.

Mike is very polite will answer all calls immediately and has competent, respectful subs working for him as well. He is reasonably priced.
Description of Work: I recently had purchased a two family home and needed to update all of the plumbing fixtures. I hired another company which was extremely expensive with pushy salesman types. Everything that this co corrected needed to be done right. That's when I found Mike from Hickey's plumbing. He fixed everything and did some additional work. He was extremely prompt, answered all calls immediately, friendly and fairly priced. We liked him so much that we later hired him to redo the first floor kitchen (cabs, sink, dishwasher)and demo and rebuild a first floor bathroom. The plumbing work was fantastic and the craftsmenship of his tile guy was excellent. I would recommend Hickey's Plumbing for all jobs big and small.
