Overall, everything went well. In addition to closing the vents and trapping the squirrels, CC identified a hole in my gutter through which the squirrels were entering my attic area. We agreed that they would also close that hole once the squirrels were caught. However, upon closer inspection, CC informed me that my gutters needed more work, and that their blocking that particular hole would not make much of a difference, given the condition of my gutters. Dan Masters, the owner, went the extra step of recommending a gutter repair company, with whose work he is familiar. He said he would call me back, which he did, with the information. Overall, I was very satisfied with the overall professionalism of this company.
Description of Work: Critter Control (CC) conducted an inspection of my roof, gutters, and air vents for possible points of entry for birds and squirrels. We called CC because of birds in an air vent and squirrels in a storage area. A trap was set for the squirrels, which required follow-up visits. The vent was cleared of birds, and fan vent guards were installed on all 4 vents, on the first visit. CC came back several times over the following two weeks (as required by law) to check on the squirrel traps. Two squirrels were caught.

I was quite concerned and wasn't sure who to call for help, so I checked Angie's List for exterminators (there being no listings for "chewed-on shingles or sidings"), and contacted Critter Control (CC) on Monday morning at 8:15. Dan answered and I described the problem. He was knowledgeable, calm, and patient answering my questions and explaining what were the likely scenarios. We settled on squirrels or raccoons as the most likely culprits, and Dan said he could have someone out to our house that afternoon. That was great news as I was worried that critters would, or may already be, inside the house. CC asks for a two hour window so the appointment was more of a range than a specific time. Peter called about half way into that window to say he would be there shortly, and 30 minutes later he was at our front door, as promised. He explained what he was about to do and what he would do based on what he found. I signed the agreement and he was off to thoroughly inspect the areas I had seen, as well as other areas around the exterior of the house and the crawl spaces in the attic. Peter was knowledgeable, courteous and thorough. He said the cause of the problem was squirrels and that they had not gotten in the house yet, though in one spot they were very close. He told me how he would repair the areas and then did the work very neatly and quickly. The finished work looks like it was part of the original design. What others have said about this company in the previous reviews match my experience of Dan, Peter, and the company. I hope I never see these folks again, at least not for "professional reasons." But if I had any problems I would call them in heartbeat, knowing I could trust them to be there, be honest, and do a thorough job.
Description of Work: On Sunday I noticed what looked like pecked or chewed-on fascia boards and shingles at the roof line at the back of our house. It looked like there was nearly a hole into the house in one area.

I called in the morning when I noticed starlings building a nest inside an eave opening. They answered the call within minutes and scheduled a visit for late afternoon. They inspected the entire six-unit condominium building and identified four additional bird gaps. They came back a few days later and sealed all the gaps. They were prompt and professional.

Critter Control responded promptly to our initial phone inquiry, and came the next day to evaluate our property for skunk dens. The den was quickly located underneath our back porch, and traps were set. Two skunks were caught and removed. They would have gladly sealed the den for us, but we chose to do it ourselves.

I haven't yet asked for the work to be done (putting barrier along porch foundation) as the problem isn't that critical if I do some good practices that I can do myself.
Description of Work: Discussed rat control problem on the phone and he gave helpful ideas. Offered to come by and look at it for free. Gave estimate but also told me what I could do instead that would help deal with the problem. Very helpful and pleasant, punctual. Would go back to him if I decided to have any work done.

I cannot say enough good things about this company. Everything from start to finish went well. The initial contact was very pleasant, and the technician, Jason, who did the work was very polite and efficient. They were also very understanding about the costs involved, gave me a senior citizens discount, and were conservative in the number of squirrels removed.

Dan and his technicians were thorough and professional. We'd been hearing squirrel noises in our roof of our flat-roofed triple decker. The noises had gotten so bad that our cats were going nuts. Dan explained all the procedures to me over the phone and what all of the potential costs would be. I asked him many questions and his explanations were clear and it's clear that he had a lot of experience with how to deal with squirrels. There is no estimate, it's $279 for the initial inspection and trap setting, which is guaranteed for 6 months for all pests on your premises. If any repairs needed to be made to animal proof, that would be approximately $100, and then $79 per squirrel trapped. I even asked what happened to the squirrels and by state law, they must be euthanized. They arrived on time, and set up the traps, which they continue to check every day. That first day, they do a full inspection and write up a complete report of all suggested repairs, and associated costs. Although Dan suggested that we get a chimney cap, we couldn't afford one, so we declined that option, but agreed to get the $100 animal-proof caging repair to our house exterior, which was right near the roof. Only one squirrel total was trapped, but they continued to check the newer traps after the first one to make sure there were no more. At one point, they even left us a post-it note near our door in the back hall to keep us updated. Also Dan was often in touch by phone. When they assessed that there were no more squirrels, they put the caging over the hole, and everything was done. Overall, I was quite impressed by the company's professionalism and communication. We have heard no sounds at all since Critter Control finished their work. I would not hesitate to use this company again!!! It is well worth the money.

We had been hearing noises from squirrels in our walls. I checked Angie's List and found Critter Control and decided to give them a try. I called their number and left a message on their voice mail. A Critter Control representative called me back within a day or so and scheduled a visit to look at our house on 1/13/2009. He arrived at the agreed upon time and did a walk around to find the various spots where the squirrels were getting in. He then gave me a very thorough description of our situation and explained how he would trap and remove our furry invaders. He even examined our 3rd floor crawl space and disposed of a dead squirrel for us that day. He also wrote up a proposal for repairing the squirrel access points. I decided to engage their services and Critter Control promptly installed a couple of "multi-family" squirrel traps over two of the main access points. Over the next several weeks they trapped 9 squirrels and then, at our request they did the repair work that they had proposed. It has been over two weeks since they finished and we haven't heard any more squirrels. We are very pleased with the job that Critter Control did for us and would gladly recommend them to anyone else.

They came out when they said the would. They gave me all the information concerning what, how, and when they would perform the services. My experience with them was very good. We called them and they came out the next day. They put wire up and closed up the hole. They got the bird stuff out. They went into the attic just to make sure that everything was ok. They also checked the rest of our house to see if we needed anything. They closed up an area around our oil pipe. We would definitely use them again.

Overall, we were very satisfied with Critter Controls professionalism and knowledge. They came out for an initial visit in which they assessed the raccoons had been using our side deck to climb up to the roof. While on the roof they also had noticed that a squirrel had made another home that they feel was vacated one the raccoons arrived. They placed 3 baited traps that afternoon and 2 of the raccoons were caught the following morning! Critter control was back the next day, took the raccoons and returned 15 mins later to place newly baited empty traps. They followed up for the next week and replaced the bait when needed. The mother raccoon was caught the following week! They patched the hole in the roof and repaired the fascia board which the raccoons had pulled away from the house. They also had cleaned out an area of the gutter which pigeons had made a nest and placed spikes so that they will not return. The skill level of repair work did not necessarily equate to the price but it did the job in keeping animals out. We would definitely use them again if we ever have unwelcome visitors!

Last night, right before shower time, we discovered a bat on the bathroom wall. You've never realized how visible a bat can be until you've seen him resting quietly against a background of pale green and white. We shut it in by itself, plugged up the door with newspaper and tape, and went to bed unwashed. I left messages on the machines of companies that had them available, but got no return calls until quite late today. Meanwhile, this morning I called Critter Control and immediately got a nice young man named, I think, Peter, who promised to come between 10 and 12:00. He arrived at 11:00 and took care of everything very expeditiously. (Explanations, contract, bat capture, attic search, etc.). Apparently the bat was still asleep. (I'm all puffed up with pride that we thought of leaving the lights on, but who knows why he kept dozing). I'm very happy with the service we received. I realize that as pest removals go this turned out to be an easy job for the guy, but it wouldn't have been easy for us at all. Getting a competent and quick response was a blessing. It was an additional help to get someone who was good with people; and I appreciated it that he took the trouble to be nice to our youngest, very curious cat.
Description of Work: A bat was found, removed, and taken away for rabies testing; attic was inspected for evidence of his family; I was shown potential bat entry spots on the outside of the house.

Dan from Critter Control came out and set out marshmallows(!) in order to lure whatever was hiding into a humane trap. He checked it a couple of days later and, finding nothing, surmised that the critter was likely dead. After carefully cutting through the floor of the shed, he found an ex-skunk. Problem solved, and our neighbors aren't wrinkling their noses when they come by anymore. Thanks, Dan!

Very professional, the representative gave several options, and after some discussion, we decided on the least expensive one - there was little to no "up-selling" and he did his best to provide pro/con aspects of each proposed solution. On the scheduled date, showed up on time, did the work and left without a fuss. The sparrows did return (in fewer numbers) but a follow-up was scheduled which appears to have resolved the problem with nest removal of the returnees, and a few additional patches. I'd had other proposals from gutter cap solutions costing up to $4000 with no promise of success, and was happy to work with this company. They're busy and can be a bit difficult to reach, but my experience is that they did their best to be responsive.
Description of Work: Installed hardware cloth under the eaves of my house to prevent sparrows from nesting. They'd taken up residence in the spaces, and were both noisy and were leaving a lot of droppings.

Over the telephone, Dan spent time discussing the problem with us and provided us with general information on how to deal with the squirrels, explained Critter Control's services, told us what the basic costs would be and explained that remediation costs could not be estimated without inspecting. We called back on a Friday to ask Critter Control to take the job and got scheduled for Monday. Peter and Frank arrived as scheduled. They inspected around the outside of the house to verify how the squirrels were getting in, determine what repairs were needed and checked the attic for squirrels and damage. Fortunately, the damage was minimal. They answered our questions, went over the contract, provided the estimate and temporarily sealed the entrance that the squirrels were using. They left traps in the attic in case there were still squirrels there. They returned to make the final repairs to and pick up their traps.
Description of Work: We had squirrels in the attic. Critter Control returned our telephone calls promptly (initial and then to schedule the job) and provided information over the phone. We wanted to do some of the work ourselves to keep costs down and they were willing to work with us. When they came to the house they inspected for the squirrel entrances, temporarily sealed the entrance, left cages in case there were any still in the attic and provided us with a detailed estimate. Everyone that we dealt with at Critter Control was responsive and professional.

They were phenomenal. They answered my call immediately and gave me lots of information that helped me better understand how I should address the situation. I will absolutely call them if we have a need for animal removal in the future. On second visit, we discovered that there were squirrels living inside the eaves of our house, and called Critter Control right away. They explained how they would handle the problem and came out the next day to do the inspection. They then came every weekday (except for one) for the next two weeks until the squirrels were gone. Peter left us notes every day letting us know where things stood, and called periodically to give us status reports as well. All in all, we knew that we were in good hands the entire time.
Description of Work: Critter Control consulted on the phone when I found a squirrel in my basement on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. They were incredibly informative and helpful - they offered practical suggestions for solving the problem on my own as they weren't sure if they could help on the long weekend. In the end, they did have somebody who could come, but by then I felt I had the problem under control and didn't need their services ($0). On second visit, Performed a full inspection of our property for problem areas. Trapped and removed a total of nine squirrels. Sealed and reinforced all entry points around the house. Trimmed trees back 8 feet from the house ($1400).
