When Rob from Calnan initially came to give us an estimate, we asked them to insulate 3 rooms in our home which were basically unlivable in the winter because they were so cold. After Rob assessed the work, he told us that insulating 2 of the rooms wasn't necessary. His recommendation was to insulate the ceiling of the garage which is below the house and the 3 outside walls of the room above the garage (one of the cold rooms). He thought this work would solve the problem, and he was absolutely right! Those 3 rooms are now the same temperature as the rest of the house. The work took longer than he had anticipated and I know they used much more insulation material than they had expected because they found a huge empty cavity behind one wall that had very little insulation. But the final cost was exactly as he had quoted me at the beginning. This is a fantastic family owned and operated business and I recommend them highly for any insulation work.

The process went very smoothly and professionally. Each day they cleaned up and left the living space spotless. They took great care to not damage any of the systems in the attic and when they were finished cleaned the work space thoroughly. The work was quite involved and there were 4 men there for 5 days. After completing the job. Rob Calnan (the owner) returned to make some minor adjustments. I think the insulation options for older homes are quite complicated to evaluate and the other contractors I had called out earlier had a difficult time explaining why their proposed solutions would work. Rob was the only one who inspired confidence and carried through on his promises. I would have absolutely no hesitation using them again.

Excellent. Rob and his team insulated the same sun-room 2-years ago with the same excellent results. This company is extremely professional, personable, and respectful to the property and surroundings. Worked hard from the moment they arrived to the time they left. They even reinstalled the ceiling foil board BETTER and more securely than the original install. There was no oversell and the sun-room is warmer as was expected. I called Rob on a Friday afternoon. He came over within an hour and looked at our house. He came back with a quote within a couple of days. We sent in the deposit and the signed contract and then his team came over two weeks later. Rob works with his two sons and a close family friend, and they are all very, very polite and professional. They went above and beyond in terms of clean-up - we have two young children and didn't want anything lying around. Every bit of their materials were cleaned up every day. The work they did is of excellent quality. The very day the insulation was in, we noticed an immediate difference in heat retention in our house. No more drafts, much more efficient in terms of heating. It used to be that every morning when I came downstairs to make breakfast, the heater would be hard at work. Now, sometimes I come down and it's not even on, since the house retained the heat overnight. Rob knows his stuff. We were initially considering going with a Mass Save provider, but their proposal was to put 36 inches of fiberglass or cellulose on the floor of our attic. This didn't seem reasonable, since we have an a/c unit up there and that whole area would not be insulated. Also, it seemed that if we needed three feet of the stuff, it couldn't be very efficient. Surely there was something better. Well, Rob gave us the answer and I am confident that what he installed, which was rigid insulation on the ceiling of our attic and then cellulose between the ceiling joists, is a thousand times better. Better insulation, and we still have access to our attic floor for storage. It's great - we are totally satisfied!

Rob and his crew were outstanding in every way. I give them my highest, unreserved, A+ recommendation. I could not be more pleased with the quality of work and level of customer service and professionalism provided by Rob Calnan and his crew. They were not inexpensive, but the levels of service and quality were well worth the extra money. I would use them again without hesitation. If you need to re-insulate your home, call Rob Calnan. The job of re-insulating our attic space and exterior walls was done thoroughly and efficiently. They began by removing all of the old insulation material and hauling it away for disposal. This is messy, dusty work, and they finished every day by thoroughly vacuuming the house to remove any dust or debris. When we came home from work, the house was spotless. They did extensive air sealing in the attic space and installed baffles to protect soffit vents. They filled the cleaned and prepped attic space to R60 with cellulose, and they installed and sealed polyisoboard insulation in the walls. Rob communicated with us throughout the job -- keeping us updated with progress reports. He worked out details and scheduling with our general contractor to coordinate the work so that there was no wasted or lost time. He also planned and organized the building inspection so that it too went smoothly. Rob went above and beyond, spending extra time explaining details, accommodating our schedule, facilitating, planning and communicating in ways that made our lives much, much easier. I'm very pleased to have found such an excellent contractor. I look forward to the next opportunity to work with him and his excellent team.

I spoke with the owner personally. Robert Calnan told me that it was lucky that I had spoken to him because that way I would definitely get an appointment for him to come out and give a quote. While I would have liked to set-up an appointment with him while I was on the phone, he asked that I phone back the following week (or that he would call me) to set-up a time. The following week I phoned him. He said he had a job in the area and that he might be able to swing by. He phoned me on a Thursday and said he was in Dedham and that he could come by. As he called the same day he wanted to come out and I was at work, I was not able to make arrangements. Mr. Calnan said that he would also be in Dedham on Friday. I told him that I would be home all day. I never heard back at all. I followed-up with a phone call and never heard back. If I were an owner and spoke to a customer and had given my word, I would want to make sure that I made an appointment happen. If a contractor is too busy, he should be up front from the start.

They did not return my calls; I did say in my message that I would appreciate a call back even if it is to say that they are overbooked and cannot take on new customers.

I had a nice long chat with Rob Calnan on the original phone call, and he then agreed to come over that very day to look at the job and provide an estimate. While here, he again spent a lot of time explaining different approaches to battling ice dams. It took a couple of weeks to get the work permit, then he came the very next day to do the work. The crew was neat, hard working and courteous. They finished in one very long day and cleaned up completely.

They were great. They came when they said they would, kept the workspace clean and neat (and the sidewalk clear), offered us clear alternatives and recommendations once they saw what was behind our walls, communicated clearly, and cleaned up after themselves completely. They also scheduled themselves to coincide with roof work (on our Mansard Victorian roof's ledge).

After contacting Rob he came over to provide estimates quickly and was on time. He gave lots of helpful advice on the best approach for insulating a 115 year old house (interior vs exterior, priorities, cost effectiveness, etc). In the Spring 2014 we insulated the walls from the interior with blown in cellulose and had the basement perimeter sealed. The work proceeded well and there were no issues. Crew was great and with careful attention to detail. The proof of the effectiveness of the work was shown this winter with our gas bills being very reasonable. In July 2015 we had Rob and crew return to insulate our family room which although it had some insulation when built 30 years ago the insulation was inadequate and the room is cold in the winter. This work also proceeded effciently and the work looks good. Looking forward to the improved warmth this winter. Overall, a great experience with Rob's team. His experience and expertise was appreciated throughout the process.

Robert Calnan is extremely knowledgeable and generous with time and advice. Robert Calnan answered the phone and gave me a huge amount of info and great advice that would solve my problem and save money. As a result, I don't need the services of his company for this particular need, but I will definitely contact them in the future if I need any other insulating done. You don't often find companies with this high quality of customer service, which he even provided a non-customer!

Rob is such a great guy! When he came for the estimate for a number of jobs, he stayed for over an hour and gave real detailed insight on each one, and prioritize which would be most important. The work was done properly, and efficiently! We would definitely use them again.

We had ice dams frozen pipes this past winter. Rob explained to us the best solutions for these problems. He was very patient and answered all our questions. Jon, Stephen and Jon worked very hard during the entire job. They were here early and worked all day. The attic looks great. They helped us bring down some "junk" that had been up in the attic for years. They were very neat and cleaned up everything when they were finished. We would highly recommend Calnan Energy Systems.

After signing a contract to install vinyl siding with O'Sullivan, we decided now was the time to update the original insulation in our walls. Heck, we had two weeks until construction started and we work better under pressure! After reaching out to a few installers via Angie's List, Rob contacted us immediately and inquired of the job specifics, including size, orientation and schedule. We quickly negotiated a price that I felt was reasonable and Rob and his crew arrived in time to install the insulation before the cedar shingles were removed in order to ensure good compaction. Rob is a very knowledgeable, personable, and easy to work with. A job very well done.

Rob Calnan is one of my absolute favorite contractors. The work by his team is impeccable and met my highly exacting standards, his crew worked late into the evening and then apologized to us, and they even actually care about cleanup (not always easy with cellulose - that stuff gets everywhere). We were willing to pay more to get more and better installed insulation (one competing quote didn't even mention air sealing the Accuvents until we pointed it out and then brushed the request aside stating that it wasn't "required" in my town, just in others) - Rob goes above and beyond code to insulate for longterm savings and comfort. This was easily proven out as the insulation started going up - what had been a frigid room (despite having an expensive temporary heater running all the time) suddenly became so warm that we had to turn the heater off because the insulation installers were sweating. As someone who does a lot of preparatory research before meeting contractors due to past experience, it was almost novel to find someone whose expertise was so obvious that I could relax and just let him do his job (but yet cheerfully answered any questions / incorporated any requests that we had). Rob also stands by his customers. He is always available for a call or e-mail (although he can get backed up on returning calls - especially since they work so hard at the existing jobs). Somehow a wire was cut in the addition between the rough and finish electrical segments, and Rob was happy to come out and cover re-insulating the wall where a new wire was patched in. We have a second insulation project coming up later this year, and I look forward to working with Rob and his team again.

Rob Calnan is knowledgeable, courteous, responsive to calls, and patient in answering questions and addressing concerns. The work was completed in a day. Everyone on the crew was very professional, thorough, and left the house spotless. In addition to being more energy efficient, the insulation also solved my ongoing problems with ice damns which was really a testament to their work considering the severity of this winter. My neighbors were amazed there were so few icicles hanging from the roof. I was very pleased with the entire experience and would definitely recommend this company to anyone needing insulation.

Excellent! Although it will take a some time to see the results of the effort, their professionalism, cleanliness, consideration of our needs and going beyond what was contractually required was OUTSTANDING! Rob, the owner, was there as needed to direct, review and approve the work. John, the manager and installer on the job, was an absolute pleasure to work with. Other installers were also very professional and thorough. They worked until 6:30pm the first day to ensure they would stay on schedule, which they did. They arrived right on time and everything went very smoothly. They also cleaned up the place as though they had never been there. Wonderful experience!

I was extremely satisfied with the quality of the work. Rob took the time to walk me through the pros and cons of the various options that we had which made our decision much easier and better. Everyone on the crew was easy to work with and didn't mind answering questions on the work done (both silly and non silly ones :-) I would highly recommend Rob and his company for anyone doing insulation.

He did quite a bit. He put a fan on the roof. Whatever he did, it was good. We didn't have any icicles or leakage, that's what we did it for. We didn't have any ice dams. He got it done in about a day and a half. Everything was very good. I would say he was very good. I would recommend him.

I contacted Robert Calnan to discuss adding insulation to my roof after ice dam damage this winter. After discussing various options with him, he actually talked me out of taking any action right now. He was incredibly honest and very helpful. Obviously he's been in business this long because he puts the customer first and tries to really understand what would work best for them.

This is the 2nd time I used Rob and his team. About 10 days ago they came out and insulated a crawl space where a bunch of pipes were located. I was worried with the extreme cold and the fact that their is no heat in that space we could get a freeze. Like last time they did a great job. The last time they were here they air sealed and insulated our attic. Very happy we had that service completed. Many of our friends are getting ice damns and leaks. We are not because of the work Calnan did. If you are worried about ice d***'s any research on google will tell to do a better job insulating. Thanks for everything Rob. The Needham Family

Initally we were not considering an insulation project we were focused on new windows. We had Gerorge from O'sullivan installs giving us a quote on windows and I was showing him some of the tempature variances throughout the house. He suggested having the house properly insulated. He referred me to Rob at Calnan. I called him at 11am (with George) and he was at my house at 4pm (not common for most contractors). I could write a book about how FREAKIN excellent this guys were. Rob provided me a great education on insualtion. He convinced me to avoid mass save which I am glad I did. I paid more to have Calnan do my job because I did not get the mass save $$, however the work was done masterfully. What you pay for it is what you get. Couldn't be happier with Rob and his team. If you are reading this review and considering Rob it is a no brainer. Rob thank you for everyting you were one of the best contractors we have every worked with. If you read this review call me I want to insulate the crawl space where our water pipes are located before the freezing cold comes in about a week. Thanks Again! The crazy family of 5 in Needham!

His crew showed up right on time and preceded to work. the job was done quickly and professionally. When job was finished they cleaned up as though they had never been there.

Rob was extremely responsive contacting me the same day of my inquiry. He was knowledgable in the industry and very easy to talk to about the concerns. Rob was available within the same week to evaluate the project. He provided a couple of proposals. I found him to be professional and trustworthy. There was no "hard sell," actually suggested starting with the lesser fix and then move onto the other if needed. We were very pleased with the service and overall experience with Rob.
