Rob intitially stopped by the property to investigate our needs and was very thourough with his assessment. The exterior walls had very little and in some spots, no insulation. He listened to our concerns and took into account the small repairs we had already made when repairing a frozen pipe that broke last year. He then sent a very 'spot on' and affordable quote for our needs. Rob and his son then came to do the job while I was a t work a few weeks later. They arrived around 9 am and had completed the job around 3:30. They actually left the property cleaner than they had found it! They were very professional and friendly. You could tell that Rob truly respects your property as though it were his own. I would definately recommend this company to anyone.

Rob Calnan and his team were really great! After contacting a bunch of contractors that take part in the MassSave program, we decided to go with Calnan Energy Systems because he could do the job much faster and to a higher level of quality. They took the time to explain the details of the project at every step of the way. They have a bunch of ladders and the best equipment so that jobs can be done with maximum efficiency. When a few open seams in our sheathing allowed cellulose to blow into the house accidentally, they didn't miss a step and cleaned up everything to a level even better than they found it. These guys work hard all day long, from the moment they arrive to the time they finish cleaning up. I can't speak to the direct impact on our utility bills since we moved in a short time ago and we have installed a new high-efficiency boiler just before the winter heating season began. However, we do notice a *slight* reduction in street noise. I have also taken some infrared pictures of the house (both inside & out) on a very cold night in January and it's clear that we're sealed up tight! No missing cavities due to framing cross-members, etc. They also blew insulation into a few porch overhang cavities as well. Since the job ended I have called Rob with a few insulation questions and he's been super-helpful. I would highly recommend Rob and his company!

They did an excellent job and were great to work with. Rob explained everything they were doing to install the blow-in the insulation and patiently answered all of our questions. They were on-time, neat, professional and extremely personable. We were extremely pleased and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

sillsHe responded very quickly to my phone call,came out to do the estimate at my convenience. He was very knowledgeable about windows and construction. He showed up on time,dropped clothed everything and the house was cleaner than found a good experience.

They did a great job, cleaned up the area inside and outside. I have dogs that run in the area under the windows. They made sure no nails, wood or materials were left for the dogs to get into.

We have a very drafty attic and are losing a great deal of heat through the ceiling. I called and spoke to several insulation specialists and got four estimates ranging in price and they were all higher than my budget. Rob was the only one that was able to outline the work that needed to be done to get to our ultimate goal and lay out the clear, fair cost in a way that made any sense to me. In the end we decided to start with air sealing and hold off on the full insulation project until a later date. Rob was the most punctual and professional contractor I've ever worked with. His crew was in and out and completed the job on par with our expectations. When we revisit this project in a few months Rob will definitely be on the top of our list.

Rob provided details of the work involved, in person and on paper, and prepared a proposal promptly after meeting with me in October 2012. He was very understanding of budget considerations, made clear that the work could easily be done in stages. He gave lots of useful information about insulation and energy saving measures in general, making it easier to come to decisions about the work. When we decided to go ahead with the work, Rob acted quickly to get a permit and scheduled a date right away. From start to finish he was very professional, responsive, and sensitive to all our questions and concerns. He did the work with his son and one other worker. They were meticulous throughout the job, and very respectful of our home, putting down dropcloths and moving equipment through the house with care. They were also very kind to our dog, who gets rattled with strangers moving through the house. I had to be away from the house for hours at a time, and I felt completely at ease with Rob at the house with his crew. He kept me informed from beginning to end, and sent me invoices promptly after the work was completed. Best of all, we already notice a big difference in how comfortable the house is.

On time estimate. Very courtious and informative explanation of services to be performed. No pressure to sign contract. Flexable work schedule and on time start to finish dates. Rob Calnan and his staff took the time to explain what they were doing any time that I asked a question - always responded with a smile. Cleaned up after job compleated to my satisfaction. A 'no hassle' professional service. In my estimation,I feel confident that the services provided by Calnan's Energy Systems is excellent.

The telephone call to the company was promptly responded to and an appointment was made for Mr. Calnan to come out to do an estimate. He was right on time and was very professional. Written estimate was received within a few days. We still have not decided how much or whether to do the insulation at this time.

Calnan and his co-worker arrived on time for both the initial estimate and the appointment itself. The job took a few hours and they did a pretty good job cleaning up, though a few bits of insulation remained. However, the area isn't much warmer and it didn't make as much difference as we were led to believe. They were to insulate behind some cabinets, which I believe they did, but it's still very drafty. From the start they were slow to respond to emails and phone calls, even after I told them this was a big concern of mine. After the insulation job, I offered Rob more work by asking him to write an estimate for a leaky window that needed replacement. This was a repair that needed to be done right away with mold festering in the wall, yet it took almost 3 weeks for them to get an estimate to me, and this was only after a phone call from me practically begging him to take my business. I then decided this was probably not a company that would have my back in an emergency situation, so we ended up giving the work to another company who was more responsive, whose estimate was about $1,000 less, and the work was done beautifully. Rob seems like a really nice guy but I was really disappointed, especially after all the great reviews and a personal recommendation.

From start to finish, this could not have been a more pleasant process. Rob (and his sister Loretta, who coordinates everything) were friendly and informative at all times. They were prompt in getting us an estimate, which was higher than we had hoped, but ultimately seemed worthwhile anyway. We got what we paid for. Rob's crew was excellent and he was there supervising for the full day and half that it took to remove the clapboards, drill holes, pump the literally empty walls full of cellulose, then reattach the clapboards. The crew cleaned up after itself so well that I haven't had to do any further work outside. Most importantly, our home is now noticeably warmer, with the heat coming on much less frequently than it used to. We're thrilled with this decision, even if it was a bit costly. I'd highly recommend Rob for any job involving home energy work. He's just a great guy to work with.

We couldn't ask for a better team of brothers or better results. We're thrilled with their communication, their coordination with Ranch Roofing, the way they worked with Mancini Heating & Cooling the day of the install, and how much warmer our downstairs living space is now! We can already feel the results, and we think that speaks wonders to the work they did. They were able to get 35% more insulation in than they thought they would (which goes to show how badly we needed this done and how thorough they are)... and they didn't charge us a penny more than our original estimate. Calnan's was recommended to us by Ranch Roofing. We had read another Angie's List review about them working together, so we felt comfortable going with their recommendation. We're so glad we did! Even though our condo was "gut renovated" in 2003, we had concerns about substantial heat loss from our HVAC system that runs between the ceiling and roof of our downstairs. Last winter, we noticed that the snow and ice was all melted right above the space our ductwork runs... and we were freezing in our living room and two downstairs bedrooms with the heat on. We don't have an accessible attic space; the only time this area is accessible is when the roof is ripped off. Since we were having our entire roof replaced, this was the perfect opportunity to address our insulation needs. Calnan's recommended having an HVAC tech look at the ductwork to ensure it was intact. Our HVAC tech was able to be on-site to address seal any gaps in the duct work, and Calnan's was very helpful at determining what time the roof would be open for him to look at the ducting. Due to the tropical storm and unusual amount of rain, our roof work was delayed until late October. When our installation date got rained out, Calnan's and Ranch Roofing coordinated another date that would work for them both, and Calnan's immediately confirmed the new date with me. Calnan's confirmed with Ranch Roofing to save me another phone call. They arrived right on time the morning of the install, and they communicated with me, our HVAC tech, and the roofing company to ensure things went smoothly. There were a lot of people up on our roof that day. They kept me informed of their progress throughout the day and communicated with our HVAC tech during his work to make sure they weren't getting in each others way. I went up on the roof at one point to see what it looked like, and they took pictures with a camera phone to show me their work. In addition to finding that we had been "heating" all that gap space, they discovered and filled in an empty (previously uninsulated) cavity between our downstairs and upstairs bathroom. They were so polite, respectful, honest, detail-oriented, and genuinely appreciative. It was a pleasure interacting with them. We highly recommend them to anyone who has concerns about energy loss in their home. While it's easy to forget about the things you don't see everyday in your home (like insulation), having it done right is a difference we can really feel. Thanks to their great work, we're dreading winter--and our gas bill--a little less this year :)

The whole experience was delightful. Everyone concerned was so agreeable and pleasant to work with I wish they did more things, so I could use them again!!!!!

What a fantastic experience. Calnan's was one of three providers who we had to come assess our insulation challenges, after the ice dams of the past winter. Rob Calnan (who owns the company AND is the crew chief on all projects) did a thorough assessment of our needs, explained in detail how the MassSave program works, and came back for a follow-up visit to ensure that his quote was as accurate as possible. Once MassSave finished the paperwork (which took a while), Loretta from Rob's office very quickly set up a convenient date to get the work done. The crew was on time, polite, friendly, and professional. They arrived around 8 AM, and stayed until the job was done -- Rob didn't leave until 7 PM. Also, Rob had originally quoted 5 sheets of plywood to replace what was in the attic; he was able to re-use most of the existing plywood, so he lowered his final bill to reflect that. We now have more attic space than we did before the work starts, and are looking forward to energy savings and no ice dams. Thanks Calnan!

Calnan's Energy Systems I don't remember the price, but I do know it was reasonably. They didn't charge us for the doors, because they are just wicked awesome! Explained everything to us and taught me a lot of things. Answered all my questions. They are fantastic ! So thorough, clean, very awesome to their customer. They care. We will use them again, we already have a plan for next year.

Our experience with Rob Calnan, Loretta, and his whole team has been excellent - we should have filed four reports because over the past year and a half they have been here four times in our two-apartment home: insulation downstairs apartment, windows upstairs, insulation upstairs, windows downstairs. We had to space the work out for money reasons, and to take advantage of the rebate program. Rob is incredibly personable, and very thorough and knowledgeable about the process of his work. He helped us with the MassSave rebate program (and the potential pitfalls thereof), and Loretta has been so helpful in scheduling and getting paperwork to us. The whole crew was great too - very polite and they turned out some quality work. We are so pleased with the work they have done. The windows open and close perfectly, and afterward the work area was clean as a whistle - Rob really demonstrated his knowledge and they use safe practices of the state remodeling/lead rules, which eased our mind since we have a small child. I can't say enough good things about the whole crew, and we will definitely be having them install the remaining insulation in the attic and basement next year. Highly recommended!

I contacted Rob Calnan after ice dams caused water to leak into newly installed replacement windows. Rob made a house call on the Saturday that I called. He provided a wealth of information on insulation and air sealing options. Rob scheduled an energy audit, and helped us secure the maximum possible rebate. We have a very large attic, and Rob's company did a great deal of work--on time and on budget. During the job, Rob diagnosed a significant problem caused by a prior insulation contractor, and he suggested how I could get the prior contractor to fix the job. I had Rob do the additional work, as I didn't want the headaches of arguing with the prior contractor. Rob's entire crew was polite, conscientious, and very neat. As soon as their work was finished, I noticed an immediate difference in the warmth of a particularly cold room. I highly recommend Calnan's Energy Systems for any insulation job. They may not have the lowest price, but they deliver great value and excellent results.

Calnan's Energy assessed my insulation which I initiated after having ice dams during the winter. Recommendation were made of how to improve my attic insulation to conserve energy and prevent ice damming. Calnan performed the work after MassSave completed their audit and agreed with Calnan's recommendation. When onsite Calnan discovered that insulation below my floor board was sufficient and therefore reduced the cost of the job. Crew was respectful of being in someone's home and did a great job cleaning up after job I needed to have the work done by 4/15 and although the earliest they could schedule the work was 4/14 they offered to call if crew became available if weather prevented them from working outside on other jobs. Calnan called over the weekend and was able to complete the work on 4/4. I'm a happy camper. :)

Rob Calnan was extremely friendly, honest and professional. He was the only one of the insulation contractors I spoke to who paused to consider the necessity of the work I had called him to estimate. Instead of simply giving me a bid for what I thought I needed, he painstakingly went through the pros and cons of the work, ultimately convincing me to modify the scope substantially, which saved me thousands of $. He was also the only insulation contractor who I spoke to who thought to mention the Massachusetts Energy rebate, which also saved me lots of $. He walked me through the rebate process, offering several helpful suggestions and even submitted the paperwork himself. The best part is that I don't even have to wait for a refund because he is handling it completely himself. The work he did do was done exactly as planned, neatly and efficiently.

The owner himself, Rob Calnan, came to evaluate the house. It is an old and complicated building, and he seemed very knowledgable. He had impressive qualifications and was very friendly.
