This was the first of three quotes, that I received for the work. Stephen from Boston's Best came on time and was very courteous. He seemed to give a thorough inspection, although he seemed to be fairly new to the business. While the price ended up matching who I went with, I was not as impressed with his personal experience, and I did not like how he added in some semi-scare tactics, on the need for the flu liner. He shared a number of times, that if any larger pieces of clay broke off, it would not be safe. He pushed to have the work done quickly, to be safe, etc. You may have a different experience with another rep, since they do rank very high in most reviews.
Description of Work: We were quoted on work to: add a stainless steel liner to the furnace flu, grind & point fireplace chimney from roofline up (includes cost of staging), seal flash both chimneys with karmac, add a raincap to the working chimney, sweep fireplace and install clean out door. This would normally be $4067, but with a coupon was quoted at $3900.

Rep from Boston's Best was very good. He arrived on time and spent time to point out why he made the assessment he did, what my options are for the repair. Their price was fair and in line with other quotes I received. I have not yet decided what to do/when to do it so have not hired anyone yet.

Having read that Boston's Best Chimney was the highest rated chimney repair company, I called and asked for an estimate. My goal was to find a company with the experience and professionalism to do the job right the first time, as I plan on living in my home for the next 30 years at least. Richie Mac arrived from Bostons Best and was the only contractor who was knowlegable enough to explain to me the reasons the chimney needed to be rebuilt versus repointed. Once we agreed to the price, Richie Mac and his very professional and respectful crew went to work and had the job done in less than a week. The quality of the work is exceptional! My chimney is about 12 feet tall and my house three stories high. Richie and his crew made it look easy and kept the area clean after every days work, including raking the yard for debris! I highly recommend this company!!!
Description of Work: They did a complete rebuild of a double flue brick chimney on a three story home. They relined new lead flashing to meet with the slate roof.

Stephen Antonino gave an excellent and fair assessment of our situation and the options. When he discovered that the furnace flue had been done poorly by a former company employee eight years ago, he conveyed this information to us honestly. After some back-and-forth discussion, the company agreed to remove the defective flue liner and replace it entirely at their cost. Since this is very hard for a small business trying to cover its overhead and labor costs, we really appreciated this response. Their office person (Lindsay) was easy to work with in scheduling and paying (they take credit cards), and the crew came exactly when they promised. When one of their suppliers did not deliver one of the flue liners as expected, Mr. Antonino contacted us immediately to let us know the impact on the schedule. The crew then worked on a Saturday to complete the job. We would definitely call them again.
Description of Work: 1. Lined a furnace flue with stainless steel and connected to furnace and hot water heater. 2. Lined fireplace with flexible stainless steel. 3. Cleared fireplace obstruction 4. Re-pointed a chimney.

This company came up at the top on Angie's List. Lowest estimate! A busy and in-demand company. Although they were quite busy with lots of work, I was able to get on their schedule in a reasonable amount of time. Very thoughtful and responsive office and one-man worker did the job. Easy to set up an appointment. On time (actually completed work in only one day !) and on budget. Clean up outstanding - like the proverbial whistle. Excellent quality work. Looks great, too, used a brick that is quite attractive. We, together, found way to save money without any sacrifice to integrity of the chimney - it turns out that height to code was lower than original chimney that had to be replaced. Consequently, less brick, less time to complete the job. Answered all questions. Gave advice on options and they recommended against sealable cap unit even though it would have meant more money for them. A very positive experience. I highly recommend this company.

They came promptly, recognized the emergency nature of the situation, and instantly got to work. They were efficient, courteous and communicative.
Description of Work: Rebuilt one chimney and lined two. My 1897 house had been poorly maintained for decades, and one day I looked at the roof from an unusual angle and realised that the back chimney (used for the furnace) was about to fall down. It turned out that neither chimney had ever been lined or otherwise maintained. I don't know what we pay home inspectors for...

The crew of two was on time. The Grinding and pointing was OK. But, the F.S.B. work looks terrible. The surface was not smooth. I can see the brick layout underneath. It's clear that more than one person did the work because there are lines that are perpendicular to each other and every which way. No lines should be shown. The surface should be smooth. Other section looks like they ran out of material, so there is a depression where it should have been level. The work looks like it was done by a bunch of lazy guys.

The guy told us that our chimney was badly in need of repair, that large chunks of the lining were about to fall down, placing us in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. He said a new liner would cost $2700. I was suspicious, because I know from my own experience and articles, that this is a common ploy to frighten people into getting an expensive new liner. I got a second opinion from E. Liverman Chimney, who was recommended by a friend. Mr. Liverman told me that the liner was getting a bit thin but by no means falling apart and that we did not need a new liner. He said there was no way the Boston Best guy could have seen what he said he saw, because the chimney has a bend in it. I recommend E. Liverman highly.

The installation of the new flue liner resulted in extensive quantities of soot being deposited throughout the ground floor of the house & basement. Whether this could have been limited by temporarily blocking off the new hole into the flue from the kitchen during the installation of the lining I am not qualified to say. However, neither I nor my wife were forewarned of this likelihood. Had we been, we would certainly have taken steps- such as closing doors to the kitchen & covering cookware, furniture, etc. with dust sheets- to limit this. As it was we have spent at least 12 hours removing a film of grime from every exposed horizontal surface on our ground floor & we haven't even begun in the basement. The work- while expensive compared to other estimates- was otherwise, as far as we can tell, timely & satisfactory.

Initially very happy with the liner replacement work, and had a cap put on. Very nice and seemingly knowledgeable people. We were told again that the chimney didn't need to be cleaned. Then a few months later after perhaps 10 fires, we had a chimney fire; the fire department said the flue was so choked with creosote and ash that there was only about a 3 inch space showing (in a 10' or 12' flue). They didn't think that could have happened so quickly if the chimney was clean when inspected, and we had only burned dry old wood. Called them in Feb. To see why we were told the chimney didn't need to be cleaned when it obviously did. I was told we'd get a call from the person who had inspected; still waiting. Had to pay another co. $350 to clean up after the fire. I can't imagine the reason for this lapse, and would love an explanation. And a free cleaning!
Description of Work: Had the chimney inspected before purchasing our 1950 ranch home; we were told the furnace flue needed to be replaced, but the main chimney was fine and didn't need cleaning. Got a quote to replace the flue for around $2200, which we had done a few months later.

Everyone at BBC was pleasant and professional. The initial estimate was complete and they stood by their price, which was about $4000 less than a competitor (who was not nearly as nice to deal with). We were very satisfied with all of their work and would happily recommend them.

Stainless steel liners and caps on two chimneys. Clean out of ash bins and reconnection of all furnaces to chimney. Boston's Best Chimney was on time, very knowledgeable and did not try to sell me a bill of goods. When no cross connection was found, they said so.
