Boston's Best Chimney

Both times they were on time and the price was exactly as estimated. Another company told me the chimney needed to be replaced from the roofline up. Boston's Best checked it out and assured me that repointing the bricks would suffice. Chimney looks great, cap is great, and clean out door will make future cleanings much easier.

Arrived on time on the day appointed. Completed the work to my satisfaction in 2 days. There was some putty in between a few of the chimney bricks which they couldn't grind out, I pointed this out and they took care of it. I had the feeling that they were happy to do the work as I requested, but that it was important that I inspected the work and voiced my preferences clearly.

The experience went very well. They made an appointment within a reasonable time. They were here on time. They were courteous and professional. They knew what they were talking about and they did the work with no complaints from me.

They were prompt, courteous and honest. I would use them again if I ever need chimney work.

I was very, very impressed by them. They came out about a week ago to give us a quote. Rich was the guy that came out and he and his helper were very professional. They completed the job on a very hot day and did a great job. The cost was right on with no additional fees. We would certainly use them again and recommend them to others. We were truly impressed by them.

We installed a new furnace last year and we has to install a chimney liner to replace the original (1920). Richie Mac from Boston's Best did a through job in explaining to me what needed to get done and exactly how he was going to do it. I have gotten quotes from 2 other companies last year when we first replaced the boiler. Boston's Best quote was similar to the others. Richie had swept our chimney in the past. He is always respectful and honest.

It went well and the guys bent over backwards to do a good job.

I can't say enough about how great these guys were. Quality of work was perfect. Cleaned up after every day. They had some small delay in the middle of the job which was not a big deal to me at all but they did a free cleaning of the chimney to make up for it. Was wonderful working with this father and son team. Many workers, but the son did the actual building of the chimneys. We had 3 estimates before we chose them, theirs was in the middle.

We received a very thorough estimate and explanation of the work needed and/or recommended. Matt carefully explained everything and was honest with us as to which were safety or code compliance issues and which were not, so that we could properly decide on the work to have done.

The crew from Boston's Best Chimney was excellent. They always called to let us know exactly when they would be arriving, were very pleasant to have around, and cleaned up extremely carefully. The job turned out to be more complicated than originally expected, but they approached it very professionally, and they did an excellent job. In spite of the fact that the work took longer than they originally projected, they stuck to the original estimate. I would recommend them to anyone needing chimney cleaning or repair work.

Condition Report indicated that the led flashing had to be redone for $975 as well as the mortar re-pointing at $125. This was suspect since the flashing had just been re-done within a years time and recent water tests showed absolutely no issue with the flashing, just the chimney itself (another professional has since re-confirmed that the flashing is indeed fine). When asked if they would guarantee the $1100 worth of work, they said there was no warranty for the water problem. Since the chimney clearly did need re-pointing we went ahead with that part of the quote. Unfortunately the re-pointing was not extensive enough. There were areas that clearly had missing or very loose mortar even after the job was completed. The price was reflective of the amount of actual work done, but the work wasn t sufficient. They offered to come out and do more re-pointing at additional cost, but we decided to find someone else who would make a better attempt at doing the job right the first time.

Michael was great at getting back to me to set up the appointment, phoned to let me know he was on his way, gave an on-the-spot estimate, and completed the work when he said he would. We were very pleased.

These guys were awesome. We got a quick, easy estimate, and they were able to schedule the job at a time that worked with our schedule. When we had bought our new-old house, we had realized on the inspection that there were many holes in the chimney, making it a possible carbon monoxide hazard, and the mortar between the bricks was literally crumbling in places, due to the residue from our oil burner mixing with the water that dripped down the chimney from lack of a rain cap. They recommended a "used" rain cap to decrease cost (looks and works like new), and were sensitive to our budget when discussing repair options. The team arrived on time, and completed the work in even less time than anticipated. The head of the two-man team especially, was extremely personable, and showed me his most prized possession--a letter from his nephew thanking him for saving his dad's life, by donating one of his kidneys! I was happy I hired them, and was very pleased with the work they did.

They were very responsive and sent Matt to the house 3 days after I called. He was about an hour late because he didn't know until that morning that the office had added the job to his docket. This happened even though the office had called me the day prior to confirm. Matt concluded the chimney's flue was intact and it did not need cleaning. He was very knowledgeable about the construction of the fireplace and gave some suggestions to correct some problems I'd had with the fireplace not drafting well. He was uncertain where the brick had come from, which prompted me to call another chimney sweep for a 2nd opinion. This 2nd person confirmed that the chimney was in working order. I wasn't charged for this visit (the 2nd contractor did), but they left me with an estimate and recommendation that I rebuild my leaning chimney, which the other provider and I both feel is an unnecessary job. But I don't really blame them for trying to get some paid work from this visit.

Thorough estimate. Thoughtful about considering aesthetics and functionality of a new chimney cap. Responsive to all questions, e.g., when they do the job over two days, will we have heat at night (answer: yes)? Cooperative about arranging to get into the house. They came when they said and finished in one day instead of two they planned for. All went perfectly with one exception: they forgot to turn the hot water heater back on. I wrote them a note about that and also that I thought the price was expensive considering how long it took them to do it. I paid the balance though. They wrote me a nice letter, apologized for the hot water heater being off and sent me a rebate. These guys are really professional. (Note: I had another bid that was 50% higher and a third company that didn't make it to bid but who had bid on my neighbor's house for a similar job at a much lower rate than I was paying. But, I didn't want to take the chance on a low-ball estimate).

It went well and was all done in less than an hour.

Unlike many contractors, they showed up when they would and did the work they said they'd do. When they came back to do the re-point of the chimney, they didn't do a good job there and charged a little too much. The gentleman who did the initial work, I found to be better at his job but, unfortunately by the time they came back to do the re-point work, he had left the company.

I called because the gas company advised me to get the chimney checked for possible blockages. They responded quickly and found no problems but advised me to add a cap for $345. Since I was going to have to pay $225 for the call itself the cap was only an additional $120. I was not clearly advised that the initial call was as high as the $225 so that was the only possible problem I found with the company, but that could have been my fault for not asking for proper clarification.

I was so impressed that they caught this potentially deadly safety issue. They put my hand right on the warm pipe and demonstrated how close it was to the flammable wood. I plan to call them again before winter comes so they can do another check and cleaning. The gentlemen who came to do the job were knowledgeable, very nice and easy to work with. I wish I could remember the price of this job, but I am positive that it was fair.

They were really clean and very knowledgeable in their field. They were very professional and courteous as well. His quality of work was exceptional. I would recommend them to others because he was just outstanding.

They worked very hard to fit us into their schedule. I think if we would've waited any longer, the chimney would've collapsed on our house. We really appreciated their time and effort. They were very hard workers and they always made sure that I was satisfied.

The top two courses of brick on my chimney stack had to be replaced to accommodate the new chimney cap. The team came in and completed the work when they said they would. The site was clean on completion. I had previously obtained a quote from another company, which was much higher due to the need to subcontract to a mason for the brickwork. Also because my chimney stack is high, scaffolding would have been required. This team did it all without any special equipment or fuss.

The guy was nice, efficient, and seemed to know what he was doing. Returned phone calls within a day. Price is reasonable, so we're going to have them do the work. He also noticed the basement needs parging (not included in above price) so we'll have them do that as well.

Frank came to the house to give an estimate at exactly the time arranged. The appointment for the job had to be moved by two days because of inclement weather. They arrived exactly when promised, quickly solved the problem of getting on to the roof, and were finished before I knew it. I am very pleased with their serve. They also took cell phone pictures of the chimney to report the need for re-pointing of several areas that I couldn't have seen even with binoculars. Great service.
