Boston's Best Chimney

Matt and his assistant came to our house initially for a chimney inspection and cleaning. I found them both extremely courteous and professional. Matt performed a thorough inspection and told us what we suspected with no existing chimney cap on a house built in 1937: namely we would need a liner top to bottom and cap as well as masonry work. The masonry work will have to wait until warmer temps in the Spring but we didn't want to put off the liner and cap. Matt took time to explain the job and provided a detailed written estimate. The installation was scheduled for a couple days later. Matt showed up an hour later than he predicted but was apologetic. They took about three hours to complete the work and cleaned up after themselves. There was an accidental problem caused with our gas furnace but they returned immediately and remedied it quickly.

They were awesome. They came in and went above and beyond in terms of doing the initial work. They were fantastic. I was super comfortable with everything that they had to say because they knew exactly what they were doing. They showed up on time and they were super knowledgeable. The big thing is they checked out something that another contractor had mentioned. They cleaned everything up and this is while they were doing the estimate. They were super thorough. When they cleaned up all of that stuff, I hadn t hired them. They were a little more expensive than the other people I had but I felt it was worth it. They cleaned up after themselves.

I was greeted very professionally on the phone. Sadly, this company books very far in advance, they are very busy! I could not get an estimator to the house for 6 weeks. The company rep I spoke to was friendly and helpful and placed me on the wait list. I think I will have the work performed by another company who can help me out sooner.

A check was enclosed which refunded the cost of the inspection. A very professional response to my previous Angies' list report!

This company was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. They were quick and precise in their explanations of the work we will need done. They were easy to get in touch with to make the appointment.

They were great! They did the work in a timely manner and very well done. I found them cost effective and will plan on calling them again.

Work went well. Only issue was that they accidentally broke nozzle on my hose but paid for a replacement. I am very happy with the work performed and would recommend them without hesitation.

I had been having problems with water penetration where the cathedral ceiling meets the chimney brickwork in my family room. I had a similar problem ten years ago. Boston's Best Chimney inspected the chimney, flashing and roof area and made several recommendations including resealing the lead flashing around the chimney at the roof line, waterproofing the chimney from the roof line up, replacing spauling brick and some minor pointing. They explained that the sealing done ten years ago is generally good for about that time period. Their approach to solving the problem was practical. They also cleaned the interior brickwork which had some unattractive water staining around the ceiling. They did the job within one week of their inspection with a crew of three. They were neat and courteous and so far the work has held up nicely through two heavy rain/windstorms. Boston's Best Chimney was very professional and a pleasure to work with.

1st visit: professional. Cleaned the heavily used chimney taking two visits. Replaced a steel flue cover/screen with a stainless steel cover/screen. Installed several bricks that were spauled, mortared other bricks that had mortar washed out. Installed a cover/screen on a second flue, and a controllable sealing cover on a third flue. 2nd visit: asked them to come out and clean chimney, due to the positive experience of previous visit. The chimney sweep that showed up was unprofessional, criticized the work done by his own company 3 years before, and stated the stove was installed wrong (it had been used for 25 years) and needed to have a flue liner installed. To clean the stove it had to be removed from the fireplace and piping disassembled to do a proper job. The cover that was installed there was unacceptable and instead I needed a cover that protected the entire top of the chimney. Further, grout needed pointing, bricks needed replacement and the top should be waterproofed. Total work recommended on the first chimney was $4,609. Work on the second unused chimney would be only $600. Finally he did not want to clean the chimney (original objective) since the chimney lacked the liner and a proper connection to the stove. But they did offer to clean it if I insisted. Irritated, I paid instead the minimum fee for a chimney inspection and the next week, I climbed up on the roof and cleaned the chimney myself, using a chimney brush and several connecting rods. I also did the tuck pointing myself. Either the first fellow did a poor job and the second was correct in criticizing the work, or the first fellow did a good job and the second was incorrect in criticizing the work. Either way, I was uncomfortable with the second fellow and will not use their service again.

Overall they did good quality work. The crew of three guys was on time for both the estimate and the actual work. Since our chimney was in relatively bad shape and we were starting to get cold weather, they scheduled the work on a Sunday since they were already booked during the week. All work was done in about 9-10 hours in one day.

I thought that they were very thorough and explained things to me very well. I think that on price they were a little high. When they were doing it they knocked a block off the chimney and never fixed it. It was an accident but, I still thought they should have done something about it. I thought that they were professional and showed up on time.

Excellent experience. I was able to get an estimate the same week that I called. The work was scheduled within two weeks. Ray, who did the original estimate, arrived during the scheduled time frame to do the work. He and Mike were very professional. They worked quickly, cleaned up after they were done, did the work as agreed on the original estimate.

Both David and Charles were professional, efficient and polite. Would definitely use this company's services in the future.

My experience with them was very good. They did the work as advertised. They were concerned about the quality and it works fine. I would recommend them and use them again.

Very well. They did a great job and we were very pleased in the end. They left a small mess in our basement, unfortunately, but they apologized profusely.

Boston's Best Chimney was recommended to us by our roofing contractor. He said they do quality work. He was right. They arrived on time with a larger crew than first quoted, and were thus able to complete the work in one day at no extra charge. They were also extremely cheerful and friendly, even at the end of a long and very dirty day. They were pretty careful about their work, all things considered, although a significant amount of soot was dispersed throughout the entire first floor. They took great care to make sure our hardwood floors were cleaned afterward.

Everything went very well. Steve and the crew were very professional. They arrived on time. It was the hottest week of the summer and they worked in that heat for 3 days. The finished product looks great. They were also very careful about protecting the inside of the living room while they were doing the fireplace work. They cleaned everything up and we are quite pleased.

We had Boston's Best Chimney sweep our chimney on Oct '07 shortly after we moved into our new house. During the cleaning, they also looked at a different chimney and noticed a lack of a liner in a 160 year old chimney, as well as incorrectly vented/placed furnace and hot water heater pipes. They provided us with an estimate for the work, which we didn't do at the time. At the beginning of this summer, we called them back and they honored the estimate they provided last year. Overall, they did a great job. Incredibly professional, friendly, and clean. They completed the job in just over a half-day, as opposed to the full day they estimated (they brought 3 guys instead of 2). Additionally, they found that they didn't need to do one of the items we had agreed to, and simply reduced the bill by the corresponding amount.

Matt showed up on time, did very neat work, and cleaned up well after he was done. He was good about explaining what he was doing and why it was important to do it.

They are the most professional trade s people I have ever worked with. They are a cut above the rest. They are very conscientious and are content on doing the best job they can. Their name really fits them.
