I had contacted Boston's Best Chimney as I was informed that I needed to have my chimney repointed and a cap put on. I had got an estimate for a few other companies/people and I thought I would give one last phone call; so I called Boston's Best Chimney. And I am so fortunate I did. Chad from Boston's Best Chimney came out about a few weeks ago when I wasn't home as I got called into work. I spoke with him later that day, he advised me that he inspected what he could but he needed to come back out to look up the canel of the chimney from the basement. He scheduled to come out the following week. So he did come out and inspect everything he needed and it was discovered that we didn't have a liner in the chimney and needed one for code reasons and safety reasons. He quoted me $2400 and we scheduled it to be done on 7/7/2011. This was to secure the top of one of the chimney, two caps for the two chimneys I have, the liner, and labor for all of it. I decided to go with Boston's Best Chimney because Chad took the time to explain to me everything and he used terms that I could understand. Then, Chad and someone else came on 7/7/2011 at 8:45am and worked until 1:15 and gave me an invoice for the same amount of the estimate. He was a pleasure to work with, kept my house very clean with the exception of a little chimney residue (which is expected), was very polite and a pleasure to work with. I had dealt with the main office once and they are a pleasure to speak with as well. Now I have peace of mind being in my home. I will recommend this company to everyone.

I made an appointment with Boston's Best Chimney and they sent a guy named Raymond. I also got a few other estimates but Raymond's was competitive, and was by far the most thorough and detailed. He looked at the chimney from numerous angles including inside the attic, and took a picture with a digital camera up through the chimney from the basement. If he planned to get on the roof I was going to tell him not to, because I have an old slate roof. But he realized that before I said anything and he told me it's best not to walk around on an old slate roof unless he absolutely has to. He showed me pictures on his camera of his previous work which looked great, and he seems like a guy who genuinely takes pride in the job. Said he's been building chimneys since he was a teenager. In the end I would have liked to have given him the business, but it turns out my new heating system will not need to vent through the chimney after all, so I'm going to forego the repair. But if you really need chimney work done I wouldn't hesitate to use this company and ask for Raymond.
Description of Work: Repair estimate, rebuild starting from a few feet below roofline all the way up, add lead flashing, taking down a 2nd unused chimney and put a temporary cover to keep out the elements.

They had the best write-up online compared to the other companies. The guy who came out to give the quote was actually one of the guys who worked on the job. They were great. They knew exactly what I wanted. I called them and they called me back immediately. They came out and their quote was in the ballpark of what I had expected. They did a lot of the work-up right away. They came within the time frame I wanted. The job done by them was great. They cleaned up and there was no mess afterwards. They built a scaffold which some people don?t. They built it from the ground up so they had a staging area for safety. I was fine with that. That added like $400 to the job. They were doing the work they were supposed to do and so, I was fine about it. I was really happy with the quality of their work. I had other people come out before who told me that they would re-point and they said it would be couple of hundred dollars for the things that had fallen off. So, this time I knew that I needed more intensive re-pointing job. When the workers from Boston?s Best Chimney came out, they told me that they would take out all the old grout with a saw right down to the brick. Then they said that they would put in new grout so that I would get 50 years out of it. So, they told me the way it was. They weren?t really up-selling. They said that is what they need to do if I want it to last and that?s what they recommended. If need be, I would call them directly and not anybody else.
Description of Work: I used the services of Boston’s Best Chimney for chimney repair in November of 2009. They re-pointed from the roofline up. They were here like the whole day. They took out all the grout and re-grouted the entire chimney from top to bottom. They also did the masonry work again on the whole top of the chimney.

Installed a chimney liner previously. They came back out to clean the chimney and they said it was fine and to wait 2 years for that work. They quoted $200, but only charged us $75. We will use them again and I would recommend them to others.

The two workers arrived on the promised time. After an introductary meeting they went right to work. They completed their work, thoroughly cleaned up, and left a written report of the work done and the future recommendations. They appeared to be very competent and professional.
Description of Work: Cleaning of a lined masonry chimney serving a wood stove, and a metal chimney serving an oil fired boiler. Examined the condition of both flues, and made recommendations of future service needs and/or replacement. Checked and resealed roof penetrations. Checked and cleaned the boiler and wood stove breachings and the wood stove. Both the boiler and wood stove ran well and without any mishaps through this severe winter.

The job went very well. They did everything they said they were going to, and were very punctual. They called before they came to the house and completed everything in the time frame that they told me. I was very satisfied with the work they did. It took a while for them to come out and actually give me a quote as they were busy. I think it was 3 weeks after my initial call. They came out, gave me the quote and were very punctual with the appointments. I was able to call and schedule the appointment but it took probably about 3 to 4 weeks from the time I scheduled it, till the time they were able to come and do the work. The timing to get them here was delayed as they were busy.

Two men from the company showed up to do an inspection. They gave us a list of what needed to be done and then a second list of what they'd charge us if they did it under the table and we didn't tell the company. We felt we couldn't trust them to be honest with us and will not use or recommend them.

They responded quickly to my request via Angie's List. It was easy to set up the appointment. They arrived a bit early and did a good job. No mess afterwards to deal with. Can't really assess the quality of work since I can't see up the flue! My only minor gripe is that I felt a bit like their goal was as much to sell me on multi-thousand dollar chimney liner work as to sweep the chimney. Quite possibly there really is a need and I plan to follow up on it. But the way it unfolded just felt a little funny.

Service was prompt and efficient. All work to be done was explained in fulll. Chimney looks very, very nice. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Replaced the existing cap which was not up to code and removed the old paint from the chimney with a chemical wash. Let the chimney/chemical wash dry for a week to 10 days and then stained the chimney black (crown) over white (stack) with a chemical, not paint, stain.

I called the office of Boston's Best Chimney to schedule an appt for chimney cleaning. The woman I talked with scheduled the appt for 2+ weeks away and explained that the cost for inspection and cleaning of one chimney would cost $195 with each additional chimney $165 and if no chimney needed cleaning it would still cost $99. Raymond came to my house on time and inspected both chimneys and told me only the woodstove needed cleaning. He put down two drop cloths to protect my rugs from his feet and any soot. His assistant was outside with a ladder and climbed to the top of the chimney and swept it down while Raymond was inside vacuuming. In the past I was told by my chimney sweep that he couldn't sweep down from the top, that the chimney was too tall for his ladder. After the inspection I was told by Raymond that the chimney needed a cap and crown to protect the top and to keep rain from washing down. He cleaned up after himself and took $20 off the cost for being an Angie's List customer. I called the office and they were able to fit me in the following Monday. Raymond came at 8:20 this morning and within 35-40minutes had the job down. I found the company to be efficient and Raymond to be friendly and knowledgable. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I had Raymond come twice for service. The first, done on 11/17, was to inspect and clean the chimney of my woodstove and inspect the chimney of my fireplace which was judged not to need cleaning. Raymond came back on 11/22 to cap and crown the chimney.

I contacted Boston's Best Chimney Service for an estimate for work to be done on our chimney. Another company had stated that we need a stainless steel liner installed that extended to the top of the chimney. He had said that the chimney was up to code, but in his opinion wasn't really safe and that we should not use our wood stove insert. When the man came from Boston's Best Chimney, he arrived at a very different conclusion. His opinion was that the set-up was up to code and fine to use. He did not think we even needed to have the chimney cleaned, and could wait until next season. I was left feeling confused and unclear about what to do. I spoke with several other chimney companies (all highly rated on Angie's List), and someone from one company came out to do an appraisal. Everyone that I spoke with agreed that with a wood stove insert there really was no way to safely and thoroughly clean the chimney, and with a full length stainless steel liner the system would be overall safer to use. Boston's Best Chimney Service's recommendation was so different from the other companies (hence the C rating). I have no way of assessing the condition inside the chimney so I rely on professionals.

We just moved in to a new home and wanted to make sure our chimney was ready to use. Boston's Best came out right on time and did a thorough inspection. To my delight they reported that the chimney was in great shape and even showed me how to use the insert fireplace that we have in our living room. No unnecessary charges or up-selling. They were very professional and made some great recommendations on usage and next steps for cleaning. I'll have them back next year to see how we are doing.

I first called Boston's Best Chimney to look at a small hole in my chimney. They discovered that the chimney was completely unlined and beginning to deterioate. They patched the hole for free and gave me an estimate within a couple of days. They showed up on time to do the work and communicated well. The same guy who did the original inspection did the actual work. During the course of the project, they discovered an obstruction in the flue which caused a delay of over one day and required additional work to remove. They did all this without any additional cost. They were very professional, went above and beyond to complete the work, and were very patient in explaining what they thought needed to be done and why.

Scheduling was perfect and even coordinated with the surprise paving on my street. The basement was left perfectly clean.
Description of Work: My fireplace in the basement filled up with smoke when we used the fireplace in the living room. Also, my gas company said the gas furnace was not venting properly as the 50 year-old underground flue had deteriorated. I called Boston's Best Chimney for an inspection. Rich came out and confrmed the problems. My chimney required a liner, the basement fireplace needed a lock-top damper but most importantly I had a steel flue put in through a corner in the basement. This was better than rebuilding the flue underground which would have required tearing out and rebuilding some of the basement wall.

I just don't know who to believe so I'll get a third opinion.
Description of Work: I had posted that they gave us an estimate for over $5,000 worth of work and then I got a second opinion from someone who said I didn't need the work done at all. So, I thought that they were greatly exaggerating and gave them an F. They came back out to look at it again and were very professional. They agreed we weren't in imminent danger as the first report stated, but still said the work should be done.

The basic synopsis is that these guys did awesome work and were awesomely expensive. I called and made an appointment for an inspection. Dana came on time and did a thorough examination of our two chimneys, gave me a nice written report detailing his recommendations for work, options available on the work and an exact cost. Dana is very friendly, knowledgeable and thoroughly professional. He's exactly the kind of guy you want working for you. I accepted the proposal to work on the main chimney, sent in a check and three weeks later Dana and his coworker showed up on time to do the work. They installed the liner and cap, shored up the chimney base with the FSB and installed a nice cast iron clean out for the chimney. The work was done in a neat and high quality manner. They cleaned up after themselves and used an extra bag of the FSB to add some additional strength to a brick footing that was attached to the chimney. I'm very pleased with the quality of the work. My back of the envelope calculations show that they charged around $145/hr for their time, which seems pretty high. That's the only negative remark I can make, as they scored off the charts on everything else.

Their estimate was below the competition's, so we tried them out. The installer (Richie) was professional, friendly, and skilled. The work was completed on schedule, and now we love using our fireplaces! Some good points: - They asked permission before cutting a big hole in the wall (which they had not anticipated) - They took care not to lose the unique flue parts that could never be replaced in a million years. - They accepted a $100-off coupon that I found after the job was completed and paid.
