As with the original work done, they were outstanding in all aspects. The old bricks couldn't be saved, but they found almost matching bricks (and you can't tell the difference from the street). They ensured they mortared around the chimney and areas that needed it not just the new part. Cleaned up. Installed the new cap and ensured we knew how to use it. Very professional and pleasant. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They had done work last year during the winter to take down the old chimney from the roof line up. Now thee weather had warmed up enough to rebuild the chimney and recap. - Rebuild chimney from roof up- re-point where needed- install chimney cap that covers entire chimney (this is needed to water drains properly)- clean up

We brought Boston's Best Chimney to diagnose and fix a smoke migration problem. We have 3 fireplaces, though we use only one (in the living room). When we used to light a fire in that fireplace, we had smoke coming out through basement fireplace (which is inactive). After getting an outrageously expensive quote from another company (who claimed we need to change the liner; quoted close to $8000!), we got John from Boston Best Chimney in for another estimate. So happy we did. He suggested installing a lock top damper on top of our basement flue (much, much cheaper). He also suggested scanning our LR flue to determine its condition. The scan showed that the flue is in excellent condition (!) and need no repair. In addition John and his colleague came back a second time to seal with silicon, the unused basement lower damper to ensure no smoke leaks in. This work, so far, seems to do the job and our smoke migration problem seems to be solved. John and his colleague (sorry, don't remember his name) from Boston's Best, did a great job - honest, kind and professional. Very happy customer..

Started with the inspection that went well. Raymond inspected all three chimneys (two fireplaces and vent from oil fired boiler). He informed us that the two fireplace chimneys were clean and needed no work. Since we were going to be converting to gas heat, he looked at the boiler chimney and reported that it was not in sufficiently good condition to be used safely with a gas burner (our house was built in 1956). We had another chimney company and our plumber look at it and they agreed. After obtaining quotes from the other company as well as Best, we decided to go with Best. Their price was a little lower, and we liked working with Raymond. They did the work a couple of weeks later, and we couldn't be happier. They did a great job; very professional and very clean. When we had the gas burner installed, the town inspector decided that he needed a separate permit for the chimney (not a normal requirement as far as I can tell), and Best went out of their way to take care of all the paper work needed to get it done. All in all, a great experience, and we would highly recommend them.

It has gone extrememly well. We had them come by in December after a neighbor noticed a loose chimney brick had fallen on our roof. Mike came out and quickly assessed that the chimney from the roof line up needed to be replaced as well as the flue to the oil burner. He mentioned that the old chimney cap we had installed (by another company) most likely sped up the deterioration. They (Mike and assistant) came back today (1/10/12) as scheduled to install the new flue and take down the topy of the chimney. They were able to just lift the brick up with no tools. That's how bad it was. They installed a temporary cap to last the winter until they can come back in april to rebuild the chimney (need warm weather for the mortar). Mike and assistant were professional, prompt and did the work well. We already have the rebuild scheduled for 4/10.
Description of Work: 1) Replace flue (entire lengthe of chimney) to oil burner 2) Reconnect flue to oil burner 3) Seal 4) Temporay cap on flue/chimney 5) Remove and haul away loose bricks from top of chimney

The work was performed by three men who arrived on time and completed all the work in one day (with some prep work done ahead of time). They were competent, professional and polite. They cleaned up after themselves; did not disrupt my day while they were working and I think the work was done very well. I would heartily recommend this company and will use them again myself.
Description of Work: I needed to have my chimney rebuilt so I could proceed with a heating upgrade; this all came up at the last minute. The company came out and fit me in to their busy schedule at the last minute. The chimney was rebuilt from the roof up, relined and capped.

Arrived right on time (had called previously to say where they were) at 9 a.m. In 30 minutes, replaced pipes and damper. Very knowledgeable, professional, and efficient. Would use them again. Actually had used them approximately 10 years ago to replace a chimney liner, and they were awesome back then too!! Wouldn't call anyone else.
Description of Work: While estimating job, patched area where hot water heater pipe entered chimney. Noticed that furnace pipe to chimney was too large and had corroded somewhat. Came back and replaced with new correct size and damper.

The estimate was significantly lower than other vendors and they more specifically diagnosed the problem. They called the day before they were due back to do the work to ask if they could come that day instead, which they did. They did not charge for one of the repairs they made and were a pleasure to deal with.

They arrived to line the chimney on time (~8am) and had the work completed by lunchtime. They had to make one trip back to their shop to get a slightly different cap but other than that everything went well.
Description of Work: I had Boston's Best Chimney come in to evaluate the condition of the chimney, they recommended lining the chimney and installing a chimney cap. (The chimney had never had a cap and they could see bulging tiles probably due to moisture and voids where the cement had fallen out)

What started out as a request for an inspection and cleaning ended in the discovery of a major problem in my chimney. Rich, the chief honcho, and his crew (Paul, Mike and Bones) started right away to fix the problem which was causing CO to escape into my home. They worked Saturday and Sunday, losing no time attacking the problem and completed the work ahead of schedule. These guys were really nice, pleasant and professional. I am so pleased with this company and would recommend them again without hesitation.

Everyone at Boston's Best Chimney were very patient with me as I initially talked to them about two months ago about this job. Everyone I talked to was very professional and helpful. Not once did they try to sell me something or convince me I needed X,Y,Z. I was very impressed with them. There is more work to be done on my chimney, but I can't do it this year. John was very kind in walking me through the process and explained I could do some this year, some next. Never pushy. Day of rebuild he came out with apprentice right on time. Got right to work at 9 and finished probably around 4. Chimney looks excellent. They cleaned up after themselves....left the yard/roof cleaner than when they arrived, which most service companies don't do. Next I need to replace my liners, which I will definitely hire them for.

Went very well. The owner Pete came out with his assistant Kevin and they were very good about explaining what needed to be done so I didnt feel as though they were suggesting work without necessity. They explained why the chimney was unsafe instead of just telling me it needed a liner. They also showed me how a hole needs to be chiseled into the furnace flu to make sure that they could access it to clean it. I have scheduled them to come back to do the actual work and cleaning. I will use then again for other properties.

After putting down a deposit to have the work done, Boston Best called a few dance in advance to confirm the appointment, showed up on time, were professional, clean, and did what they said they were going to do. A day after the work was completed I made a fire and after an hour there was no longer a smoke smell in my attic - the problem was solved. I paid just over $1,000 for all the work, including repairs, cleaning, and damper. The next closest proposal was over $4,500. Guess who will be cleaning my chimney next season...
Description of Work: John at Best Chimney was outstanding. The problem I had with my chimney was the smell of smoke in the attic that was caused by a few holes in the liner around the smoke chamber (I am definitely NOT a chimney guy). I have had a number of chimney companies come in over the years to diagnose the problem and provide proposals. John from Best Chimney Service came out and recommended a repair that did not include opening up the smoke chamber by removing bricks from inside the house. He emphasized that they try to avoid major reconstruction if they feel it's not necessary. Every other company wanted to do major reconstruction. Additionally, every other company indicated a need for a liner replacement for my furnace flu, which did not have an problems. John discussed the advantages of a lock top damper, which made sense to me, and a cleaning, which was a couple of years overdue.

I was very impressed. They did the job in a day just before Hurricane Irene and it looks fantastic. They did a thorough job in giving me an estimate, did not harass me afterwards about doing the work and when I was ready, I called and made the appt (less than a month from when I called). Couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: The chimney was in need of replacement of some 20+ spaulded bricks and replaced the crown of the chimney. They also waterproofed the entire chimney twice. We had a sizable hole near one of the cleanouts and they did an amazing job fixing that. I feel so much better now that this work is done. We were quoted $2,400 as it was not clear if the bushed would be in the way or not. I opted to have the bushes removed to make the work easier and cheaper. New bushes are an inexpensive add next spring.

Best Chimney Services was the second company I called. The representative from the first barely looked at the chimney or the fireplace and told me I would need to rebuild the entire chimney. He offered minimal explanation as to why he came to this conclusion and offered no other options even at my prompting. So I called Best Chimney Services and John Emery and a colleague came out. John was very thorough, answered all of my questions and offered many options without me asking for them. He spent 20+ minutes looking around--outside at the chimney and around the fireplace and then took out his ladder and spent another 20+ minutes looking at the top half of the chimney and roof. He offered a very logical explanation for the water damage and many options to fix and prevent further problems. We are very happy with the thorough service he provided and have recommended Best Chimney Services to many friends.

Response from Boston's Best Chimney
The member called us out to give an estimate on her 4 chimneys. The masonry was in such bad shape during our visit that we were unable to get on top of the chimney to evaluate from the roof-line. The furnace flue liner was also evaluated from the base and it did appear that the appropriate size liner would fit. After the chimney was torn down we observed narrowing of the flues which would inhibit the ability of draft and skewed interior brick. The masonry portion of the work was completed as proposed and the issue with the boiler flue liner was addressed. At that time, the member became very angry and accused us of causing the damage to not only her boiler flue but also her fireplace flues, as well. It was explained to her that such damage takes years of break down and there was no way we could have done the damage in the week we were on site. She cancelled the payment for the work completed, and said she was going to get a second opinion before settling. Over the next few months, the member had two inspections done of our work and both companies confirmed our findings, and this time the other companies had the luxury of getting on the roof because the masonry work had been completed. The member said she is unhappy with the lack of communication, but I believe there was also lack of understanding. The masonry that was performed at the site is a completely different entity than the flues and therefore, would be addressed separately.

We bought a house that was built in '38. Somewhere along the line someone decided to have the chimney whitewashed. Bad decision! The whitewash trapped moisture in the masonry and repeated freeze-thaw cycles resulted in widespread damage, called 'spalling'. To make matters worse, the paint job had not been maintained, allowing numerous avenues for moisture to enter the masonry. At some point a repair had been done on the top of the chimney, but the rest was soft and every winter more chunks fell off. There was also water entering between the chimney and the house and numerous smaller annoyances, such as a poorly venting fireplace insert. We got two estimates. One company proposed a repointing job for about $1200, and BBC proposed a full rebuild for about $10000. We went for the rebuild because the repointiing would have left the chimney painted, which would have required repeated maintenance over the years. So Boston's Best did a straight A job. The kept the bricks cool with water to slow down the cement hardening reaction, and built a secure scaffold. The new chimney looks good, too.
