Joe was able to schedule our initial appointment very quickly after we contacted him. He was able to send us a quote within 24 hours. Joe's quote was very complete and itemized everything we discussed. Joe had some great ideas for how to hide the columns, oil tank, radon equipment, furnace, sump pumps, etc in closets. Joe's company also installed a ductless system (in the basement as well as on the other two levels of the house), built several closets for storage, replaced all doors and windows, installed a new floor, walls, ceiling, lights, etc. We showed Joe a picture of the laundry closet we saw on-line from another website, and Joe was able to duplicate it perfectly. Joe was always available via email, text and telephone to go over any issues, problems, questions, etc. Any issues we had, Joe was able to resolve quickly. Joe has a team of very experienced and professional workers (electricians, plumbers, painters, carpenters, etc.). Joe added some extra small improvements at no charge to us, because he knew we had gone over budget (due to some unexpected costs/complications), and didn't want to "nickel and dime" us, to get some extra improvements taken care of. Joe takes a lot of pride in his work and wanted to make sure the job was done the right way. My husband and I are very pleased with the final result of the basement, it looks beautiful and we can't wait to start using it. We will definitely recommend Bertola Custom Homes & Remodeling to our neighbors, family, friends, co-workers, etc. We plan to hire Bertola Custom Homes and Remodeling for future projects because we know we will receive the same excellent job, attention to detail, fair pricing and level of comfort, that we received on this basement project. Never started the project

Joe returned my call immediately and came to the house to look at the job in a very timely fashion. I really appreciated that he took on the job considering how small it was. Other contractors wouldn't even look at it. After reading all the great reviews on Angie's List, I was very excited to work with him, and he didn't disappoint. He is so organized and extremely calm in spite of having several other jobs at the same time. After the first day he wanted to make sure I was handling everything okay and wondered if there was anything he could do to make the job easier on me. I do not handle stress well, and working with Joe and his crew was totally stress free. If he wasn't helping with the job, he took the time to check on it every day. If any issues arose, Joe handled them with ease. His trades are very good, and he moves them in and out in a very efficient manner. Joe would contact me to let me know approximately what time the trades would arrive or if they were running late. When the job was done, he sent the painter back to do any touch-up work. I'm very happy with the work, and if you are looking for someone to get the job done right, I highly recommend Bertola Custom Homes and Remodeling.

After interviewing several contractors we decided to hire Bertola Custom Homes. Joe was professional, answered all our questions, helped with several details that we were trying to sort out, and gave some helpful suggestions. For all of these reasons we felt that we had made the right choice. We never looked back after we turned the job over to Joe and his crew. The level of professionalism that Joe showed the first time we met continued until the job was completed. We had a tired old family room/basement with a half bath remodeled. The room and bathroom were completely changed. Joe made some great suggestions that were perfect for what we were looking for. He also doesn?t leave until HE is completely satisfied with the job. There is such a sense of pride that is displayed by both the crew and Joe that you know that not only is the job going to be completed but it will also be of the highest quality. Joe does some things because he just thinks they need to be done and done correctly. The crew was punctual, quiet, and respectful sometimes coming back on Saturdays just to make sure that everything was complete. We had a problem with a gas fireplace surround that was put in incorrectly by the installer (not one of Joe?s crew- an out side installer). Carlos came in and fixed the problem far exceeding what we had envisioned the finished job to look like. Needless to say we were completely delighted. The spa bathroom that Joe and his crew installed has now become the master, guest, and show off bath for our home. Joe had some great ideas and it was fun to watch him become as excited about how the job was going as we were. Again, we were thrilled by the new bathroom. I feel completely confident that if we call Joe with any problem that arises (although I can?t imagine) he would be back to correct it. We would not only hire Joe again but have taken great pride in recommending him to friends and family.

He's mostly finished and will be finished within a week or two. I rate him very highly. I recommend him to anyone. He's top of the line on everything. He goes above and beyond what he should do. He's done some things at his own cost, just to make sure his work looks good. He's in constant contact and I have no problem getting a hold of him. He talks to me at my convenience, at any time. I have no problem with him. His workers are all courteous and quiet. I'm very, very happy with them.

Joe Bertola saved the day for my wife and I when our Brookline condo renovation project with a previous contractor went bad! My wife was ~8 months pregnant with our first baby and our previous contractor could not get his act together to finish our job that was already 2 months behind schedule. After parting ways with the previous contractor, we hired Joe Bertola to help us get the project done before our baby arrived. After contacting Joe on Angie's List on Feb 8th, I received a response from him the same day and he was at my condo doing the walk-through with my wife and I the very next day! The work started just a few days after. The project consisted of repairing our beautiful wood floors that the previous contractor and his crew destroyed with their tools and machines, painting the banister and risers on the staircase as well as delivering and installing 3 custom vanities (a dual sink vanity for master and 2 single sink vanities for 2nd bath and downstairs powder room). The project turned out beautifully and Joe restored our faith in contractors. Not only did he deliver on all of his promises and deadlines but he went above and beyond by addressing several leveling and cosmetic issues left behind by the previous contractor. Joe knew what was riding on this project for my wife and I and moved his schedule around to accommodate our unique situation. He promised us that he would have everything ready by the time we came back from the hospital with our baby and he certainly delivered on that promise! Now I?m getting compliments on my beautiful floors, stairs and vanities and can recommend Joe without a second of hesitation. Joe truly cares about his customers and takes tremendous pride in his work. Good to know there are still good Contractors out there!

He was really flexible. He gave us competitive quotes. We wanted to do some work ourselves to bring down the price and he was willing to do that. We didn’t go with him because we found somebody else that was cheaper. He was very responsive.

Joe did a great job with our basement. We had approx 1200 sq ft to finish and interviewed several contractors. We got a good feel from Joe as we was clearly very detail oriented. His quote was well below some of the others and he offered to add in a custom built in for the project. Throughout the project Joe was very professional, his team did a great job with the construction, and we were thrilled with the results. There were multiple issues to deal with in our basement such as pipes and columns which had the potential to make the final product "look like a basement". Joe was consistently able to come up with solutions which looked great and demonstrated a high level innovation and craftsmanship. When we purchased a set of cabinets from an outside vendor which didn't quite line up with the crown molding, Joe was able to create an extra soffit which blended the cabinets beautifully in with the rest of the ceiling. When it came to the finish work Joe was very receptive to all of our comments and concerns and quickly attended to any blemishes or imperfections we found(and we had to look very hard!). In the end the final product looks fantastic and we feel like its just another floor of our home now, it definitely does not look like a basement. We had a great experience with Joe and have already recommended him to some friends. If we ever plan on doing more work on the house he will be our first call!

Another provider that probably cherry picks the jobs. I indicated in my phone message that I wanted only half of my basement remodeled and they didn't have the courtesy to call me back.

Joe and his team were great. I was our first time using a contractor so we were a little paranoid about how it would go. Joe definitely surpassed our expectations. He was very professional and easy to talk to. If things ended up costing extra he never charged us for them. For example, the french drain trench was only supposed to cost him a few days labor, but upon digging they came across an old driveway under the grass that we had no idea was there. It ended up taking a lot longer and considerably more work to dig through the old pavement. Joe never charged us for that. Also, dismantling the old basement stairs took longer than expected due to the way they were constructed; again Joe waved the extra cost. He also thought of the extras, like making sure that you can still get at the plumbing in the basement by installing easy to remove panels in the closet. The carpentry was excellent. Also, Joe ensured that the materials used would be appropriate for a basement where water/flooding could be an issue. The job was finished on time and the basement looks great!

Joe's Team worked on several projects in our house as follows: Kitchen: He repaired damage from a water break in the kitchen by replacing the wood floor and parts of walls. Bedrooms: Installation of flat screen TV. Installed ceiling lights. Built custom shelving. Re-shaped existing doors for carpeting. Basement: Repair damage from humidity, replaced stairs, beams, etc. Bathroom: Installed ceiling lights. His Team did a great job. We got 3 bids. Joe's was the lowest. He was on time, price was exactly as quoted and he and his team are professional. The Team was very good about putting plastic up on every inch of the rooms they were working on so that there was no dust or debris in the house. I did not even have to clean after they left! When the work was done (right on time), Joe did a walkthrough to make sure we were pleased with the outcome. We were very pleased and would highly recommend Bertola and use Bertola again in the future!

I would absolutely recommend Joe to anyone looking to do work on their house. Unfortunately our timing and his availability didn't match up so we did not use him for the project, however, I spoke to and contact several contractors in the process of planning our project. Joe was one of the most professional and helpful. He took the time to come over to the house and discuss the options for the work and tell me about his business etc... He was very responsive and followed up diligently on our conversations. He also provided a very competitive quote for the job. If not for the time crunch on our end I would have absolutely chosen him to do the work.

Removed old carpet and wood wall panel. Installed blue board and did plaster on them Change the windows. Installed insulation in the room and modified the lighting.

Our old patio was such an eyesore that for the last 2 years since we moved in, we've always kept the blinds closed. The fence was mismatched and ugly, and our retaining wall was literally crumbling apart. Other contractors wanted to charge us an arm and a leg until we found Joe. He listened to our needs and worked closely to achieve our vision. We ended up decking over the retaining wall and building a new fence and gates. The project was actually quite complicated as the side of our fence with a gate leading to our parking area is shared by our neighbors. And the new fence we wanted to build looks completely different. Therefore, Joe had to build our fence the way we wanted it but keep the other side looking the way it used to. This meant shaving down the old gate and attaching it to our new gate so that the two sides of the gate look consistent but we only need to open one gate to access the parking area. Genius! In addition, to keep the cost low, we originally wanted to use PT pine and stain it. Joe searched high and low and found us mahogany at a spectacular price point. This meant a lot of extra work for his crew because mahogany is a hardwood so they had to drill each individual hole before screwing in the stainless steel screws. After the project was completed, Joe did a walk-through with my wife where she pointed out every tiny detail that she wanted fixed. Joe was not only extremely patient with her but also, did the finish work himself. He stayed late into the night to personally sand and seal the wood himself. And that's Joe for you. He's a perfectionist and really, truly cares about delivering top quality work. We are literally thrilled with the results! Three of our neighbors actually came by to check out the new patio and they have all complimented us on how good it looks. NO EXAGGERATION! Plus Joe's crew cleaned up daily so none of our neighbors complained. We would not hesitate to hire Joe again.

Joe really knows his woodworking inside and out. Our 150 year old plaster crown moulding in the kitchen and dining rooms were literally crumbling apart. We had wanted to fix them but Joe advised us to put new wood moulding over them because that would be faster, much more cost effective and ultimately, look better. We could not be happier with the results! He has a great eye for design and detail and the moulding he choose fits our house perfectly! We've received so many compliments from them and no one could tell that they are not original to the house. Joe also solved my shoe crisis. I told him that I needed a solution to neatly display my 70+ pair collection and that I would like it to match my kitchen cabinetry. A few weeks later, Joe came by with a shoe closet and shelves which were much better than I could have imagined! He really listened to my needs and delivered. In short, if you can dream it, Joe can build it. I definitely would not hesitate to recommend him to our friends and neighbors! Plus, he's one of the nicest guys out there and you won't find a more honest contractor anywhere!

Spectacular. Over the years, I've worked with numerous contractors/builders/tradesmen, and Joe Bertola is by far the best I have ever worked with. I am not just referring to his team's skills - which are amazing (great vision and technique -- the best visionary carpenters I have seen), but they are pleasure to be around because they take real pride in their work, clearly love what they do, and are always helpful and receptive to customer feedback and requests. Extremely fair pricing. Joe even threw in some things for free because he said "it is the right thing to do to make the job right."

Joe is a h*** of a nice guy, very professional and never rushes his job. He is very meticulous to detail. I am also a handy person and can tell when a contractor is taking short cuts, not Joe. His project manager, a very quite person, is very efficient and perfect in his lay out work to a T. Joe and his crew worked long hours to get the job done, I was quite happy with the results and would not hesitate to hire Joe for other type of work, which he told me he is capable of doing. Joe worked late hours, beyond 8 PM on a number of nights to meet the schedule without a complain or break. The clean up was done thoroughly when the job finished to my satisfaction. Joe also has at his disposal a number of other subcontractors, that he was able to call upon when needed such as electrician and plumber, this help take the stress off my planning. Happy with Joe, nice work, I will use him again without second thoughts for other type of work in the house

Bertola Custom Homes was highly recommended from a friend of mine. He built a new home three years ago with the company and he was thrilled by the quality of craftsmanship and punctuality. So I decided to call them up to get a quote for my project. Joe Bertola showed up precisely on time, gave me great ideas and provided me the estimate in less then 24 hours. The project started with demolition of the existing wire mesh ceiling. The crew then worked on the office/home theater. The room was wired for home theater sound along with Ethernet drops. The room was also soundproofed. Engineered hardwood floor was laid with a leveling of the basement floor. The next phase was the bathroom along with a workroom with several casement windows and an exit door. A beautiful tile stand-up shower was added to the bathroom. The final phase included replacing the basement stairs, and adding a laundry area. The work was performed quickly, efficiently and to schedule. They kept the entire house super clean at all times. I would definitely recommend Joe Bertola and his crew for any home improvement work.

We cannot say enough about the quality of the work! The crew was beyond excellent for each project. They accommodated our business schedule by working after hours during the evening & over the weekend. They took care of every single detail and kept the area impeccably clean. It was a nice surprise to walk into the office the following morning to see how much the office improved. They finished each project in a very short amount of time. On the custom desks in particular, we could not believe how fast they were able to turn these around. The finish was amazing. Bertola Custom Homes is top notch and would trust them with any work again. Highly recommended!
