Description of Work: Yard and 1/2 has maintained, replanted and greatly improved my back yard. We had our yard artistically landscaped 6 years ago. At the end of 2 years we were well on the way to killing all of our plants. We hired Yard and 1/2 who brought our landscaping back to life. Eualio replaced and redesigned our yard with plants that were hardy, well-maintained and beautiful. At this point when there is a section of the yard that is empty we completely leave it up to Eualio of Yard and 1/2 to choose the plants himself. I hardly recommend their services.

Description of Work: They were referred by a contractor and although Carolyn was very nice, she didn't get the estimate to us when she said she would. I emailed her and she said she'd have it back out that week. Again, she did not and I had to ping her again. We worried that her lack of timely responses may be reflective of her overall approach to work. Ultimately, we decided to go with another company who was timely and responsive and cost less.

Description of Work: I contacted Yard and a Half to get an assessment of a landscape update for my yard in Cambridge. It is a small yard with many specimen plants, but some are overgrown and the yard is overall over planted; some plants have died since the last major overhaul about 6 years ago. I provided a very detailed write-up to them via email of what was there, what I wanted changed, and the priority for each area of the yard. I was never able to connect with the landscaper, unfortunately, hence the B in responsiveness. This was in part due to my extensive travel for work, but not entirely.But their maintenance crew came out for a spring cleaning + etc. They did a fantastic job - really excellent. I continue to work with them for maintenance and am very, very pleased with their work. I have worked with them for a year or so and plan to continue.I am still waiting to get the landscaping updated....so, very good for maintenance, but it can be tricky to get on the schedule for a landscape design appointment.

Description of Work: Prepared our lawn and placed sod- The owner and workers were professional and courteous. Informed us accurately about their busy schedule and about their availibility.Arrived on the day they were scheduled to start and did a very nice job. Has also been available for advise regarding our lawn maintainance via email. ( tough this was not part of the lawn service). Will strongly recommend this company's service.

Description of Work: A Yard and a Half has done several jobs in my home including a pebble driveway, a front walkway, front yard landscaping and a backyard patio. The latter is the largest and most complex of the projects and this review focuses on this project. The patio replaced a small brick patio with a large one extending along the whole side of the yard with a combination of bricks and pavers. It also includes a set of stairs, 3 steps from backdoor to patio and three beds of plants. The process involved design and selection of materials, including the reuse of materials used in the patio it was replacing, and the construction. There was a lot of give and take and collaboration in the design; the designer was highly professional and a joy to work with. The construction team was always on time and highly skilled. They were amenable to incorporating minor changes I requested as the project evolved. This project has changed our use of the backyard, we enjoy the space immensely and wonder often why we did not do it sooner. AYAH is an excellent partner in this type of transformative change of a living space.

SHE CALLED ME ON SEPT. 2ND TO ASK IF TODAY (SEPT. 7TH) WAS CONVENIENT...IT WAS! THE VERY PROFESSIONAL CREW HEADED BY GIOVANNI WORKED VERY HARD, WERE POLITE, PROFESSIONAL, AND DID A SUPER JOB ALL IN ONE DAY. THEY LEFT THE YARD, GARDEN AREAS, PATIO AND DRIVEWAY IN SPOTLESS CONDITION. HAPPY TO FIND A LOCAL COMPANY THAT OBVIOUSLY IS SO WELL RUN. WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEM AGAIN IF I NEED ANY OTHER LANDSCAPE WORK DONE. PRICE SEEMED FAIR EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T GET OTHER ESTIMATES.

THE QUOTE WAS MUCH LATER THAN EXPECTED (WE HAD TO CALL FOR IT) AND, ONCE RECEIVED, IT WAS INCOMPREHENSIBLE. SERVICE PERSON CALLED BACK 3-4 WEEKS LATER, SAYING MORE PEOPLE WERE HIRED, THEY COULD GIVE AN ESTIMATE AND TO PLEASE CALL HER. I CALLED, SHE WANTED A DESCRIPTION AGAIN ABOUT WORK TO BE DONE. SAID SHE'D CHECK WITH THE OWNER BEFORE SHE COULD SCHEDULE A TIME. SHE CALLED BACK, LEFT MESSAGE FOR ME TO CALL OFFICE & SCHEDULE TIME WITH THE OWNER. I CALLED, OWNER WAS IN A MEETING, I LEFT A MESSAGE. NEVER HEARD BACK. TALK ABOUT A CONVOLUTED AND TIME-WASTING SYSTEM FOR SCHEDULING EVEN AN ESTIMATE! I KNOW IT'S A SMALL JOB, BUT THEIR ATTITUDE WAS ANYTHING BUT PROFESSIONAL.
