They were very good. Their timing was great. They were able to come right out to give us an estimate and as soon as we got the basement emptied out and were ready for them to get started, they were here that day. Another company was booking seven years out. They said it would take three days and it only took two. We would use them again if we needed to.

They replaced the water pump recently for free. Originally the water pump and waterproofing was about $6000 to $7000. The work turned out to be great. They got it all done in less than a day. They showed up on time and did the job exactly as described. They were very good to deal with and they answered all my questions. Their price was the lowest.

Excellent job overall for the Dry Crete team. They did an excellent job of installing an indoor trench and sump pump in my basement. Their customer service is excellent. They explained in detail what they were going to do prior to the job, and answered all my questions. They checked with me on any questions, and were especially careful while drilling the trench because my oil line goes under the cement floor near where they were to dig. After installation, he explained and demonstrated the use of the pump. They were right on time, and finished within a few hours. They cleaned up after themselves, and their estimate was exactly what I paid. This truly was an excellent experience, and I would definitely recommend them.

The process was very easy and they were very professional. The job was completed in 2 1/2 days instead of the 3-4 they expected. They did run into issues with the footing being wider than expected and though this would normally result in extra charges they did not charge me for it. The only issue we had was after the concrete dried we noticed that is was not leveled in some spots and the seams were not always smooth. Not a big issue since this is an unfinished basement but it may cause issues if we try to finish it.
Description of Work: We have had water in our basement each spring for the past 10 years. We hired Drycrete to install a drainage system to correct this problem. The job involved cutting aroung the foundation and installing drain pipes that were connected to the sump pumps. They installed two pumps and worked with me to locate them in the best possible spots. The system is working and so far no issues with water.

I was very impressed with them. John is the owner of the company, and he came when he said he would. They were good to work with. I was pleased with the work and their work ethic when they were here. John was very easy to work with too. He had great customer service. He answered all of my phone calls and questions. Also he addressed any problems. He went out of his way to be available. It was obvious that customer service was a high priority. Their price is very competitive. They did what they said they were going to do. John was very responsive.

John provided an estimate in Aug. 2010 for a basement waterproofing job. His price was slightly higher than another bidder (about $600 higher), but his approach to the project made more sense to me. Because of the heavy rains last spring, he was booking four-five months out. He gave us a specific date of December 6, and his crew arrived bright and early on December 6. They completed the whole waterproofing job in two days, which include a french drain around the perimeter of my basement, plus two new sump pumps and outside piping. We were able to put the work to the test about one week later when we had torrential rains -- the backyard was flooded but not the basement. Dry as a bone. It worked perfectly. Normally, we would have had standing water in about 2/3rds of my basement with such a rain storm. We are anxiously awaiting the serious melting of all the winter snow. While there has been some melting and icicle build up on our home, still no water in the basement. Truthfully, we couldn't believe it really would work. John and his crew were great. After 30 years of a wet basement, we may actually have found the solution. I'll write in again when we get the big snow melt in the spring. In the meantime, this is one happy customer. Update: December 2012 Have not had any water in the basement for two years now.

Remarkably smoothly. The only real hangup was my own misinterpretation of what I was told during the initial visit when I got the estimate. Details: I had one finished room in the basement: drywall, carpet, and some dark barn-board on the lower half of the wall, with matching chair-rail trim. When he told me he needed access to the foundation, I took it to mean: take up the carpet, and take down the barn-board. As it turns out, what I discovered when they arrived promptly by 7:30 on day 1, was that they needed the bottom 2' of the drywall to come off, too. They started at one end of the house, while I hastily took a circular saw to my drywall. Like I said, my oops. My only real critique to them was to make sure that this need is carefully conveyed to future clients, so they don't make the mistake I did. (Just as a heads-up to future French-Drain purchasers: Yes, you have to move everything out of the way yourself before they show up to do the job. If their laborers have to move your stuff, well, you're paying for it, and they're not insured or bonded as movers, so you'd be taking chances.) Beyond this, it was a very smooth operation. Spring rains had flooded my basement for the 2nd year in a row. I wanted to get the job done once, done right; so I never have to worry about it again. I believe this goal was reached. They gave me the option of waiting until their slower summer months, and gave me some percent off the total to do that. Spring damage was done, so I scheduled the work for August, and saved (maybe 8-10%, but hey, every little helps). Originally, I was told the project would take about 4-5 days. Since it was a slow time, he brought on more laborers, and they were completely done after two days. The project could've gone longer IF they'd run into trouble under the surface, but they wouldn't have known until after they'd started jack-hammering. I was well advised of this, and all turned out well from my perspective. Fortunately, in West Newton, there's little to none of the ... whatever stone shelving, ledging, something or other... that would take much more force, effort, labor, etc. to get out of the way to make their trench. Other notes: When I first moved in, I'd installed a high-efficiency furnace and hot water tank. They were in the way. So, Dry-Crete literally dug the trench around them - came in from the outside wall a few feet, went past the furnace & HW heater, then back to the exterior wall. So A) the loop around the house is complete, but B) there's some square footage under these two things that aren't protected in quite the same way. The furnace & HW heater were already mounted on small concrete risers of their own, so that's not a worry. But the brown plastic (that I mentioned above) is sticking up a couple inches around this area, and I shall never cut it flush with the floor; if I do that then any water in this small area wouldn't be directed to the french drain below, but would (could) flow onto the floor at-large. Also, New concrete in the basement = bonus points for me as a step-dad. I gave each kid a few feet in which to inscribe their name for all eternity. A pretty rare priviledge. Me? I wrote the date it was done and the name of the company, so any future owner would know who to call... just incase the LIFETIME, FULLY-TRANSFERRABLE WARRANTY ever needed to be brought up. They carted away all the debris. They cleaned up after themselves to the extent that my basement floor hadn't been so well swept since move-in day two years prior. They made sure I was comfortable and had all my questions aswered when I got the estimate, the lead for the project was always available by phone when he wasn't on site, they were completely fair in waiting until the project was complete before taking any payment. Honestly, I don't care if I never get another rain storm. I sleep well now. Oh, the reason for the B on Quality is only due to the finished surface of the poured concrete. Hey, it's a functional, supportive, relatively flat basement floor. I get it. It doesn't have to be pretty for my purposes, but I mention it for completeness. The reason for the B on the Price was really just that I'd hoped for a slightly more generous discount for waiting on the project and scheduling it on their slow time. I suppose these two things could've been B+, but Angie's List doesn't offer that.
Description of Work: Complete french drain. Just inside the exterior walls of my basement, around the entire perimeter, they jack-hammered and dug up a trench, maybe 18" wide, and about 1-2' deep. They layed in washed crushed stone. raked it (i.e. graded or sloped it) put down perforated large-diameter PVC pipe, topped it off with more crushed stone, then poured fresh concrete over the entire thing. The pipe leads (by gravity) to a sump well they installed, containing an industrial strength sump pump, which pumps (through a check-valve) out a smaller PVC pipe to my front yard. (A coupler is there in case I want to extend it later.) Also, just before the poured concrete phase, they put sheets of a corrugated(-ish) brown plastic against the outside wall. This ensures that any condensation appearing on the inside of the exterior walls drips down *behind* the brown plastic, and down into the crushed stone & pipe below surface. Now, as rainwater saturates the soil, and the water table wants to rise up to or past the level of my basement floor, it gets shunted, by flowing into these perimeter pipes, then into the sump pump and out to the front yard, bypassing my basement.

John was more timely than any other company (all were swamped after the spring rains), and he also predicted (correctly) that he'd be $1000 less than any other company. We were able to book the work easily and the company actually fit us in a couple days earlier. Each day, the men arrived on time, were polite and professional, and did the very hard work quickly -- altogether it took about 3 days. We're happy with the overall experience and the piping, concrete, new pump well, and pump itself all seem to be well done, as well as the plastic membrane around the wall. John also assured us that they guarantee their work.
Description of Work: Waterproofing -- approximately 1 to 1.5 feet square of concrete removed around the inside perimeter of our basement, then pipes laid to drain to a new pump. Plastic membrane put around the inside of the wall next to the new concrete poured over the new piping.

We had someone who had done basement work before, so we called in a couple people for quotes but went with the original contractor we used before. It wasn't that they were bad or anything like that, all the quotes were about the same, so we went with the one that we had used before. They were very professional. We had water leaking in our bulk head doors, and they told us that the only way they could guarantee that it wouldn't leak was to totally rip out the old concrete stairs and re-pour them. . They said even with that, they wouldn't be able to guarantee it. I felt they were honest about how successful they could be. They suggested to put in a french drain, which was that the $1500 would be for. The french drain would catch the water once it came through the door. What they told us was consistent with what other contractors said about not being able to guarantee that the water wouldn't come in if they tried to fix the cracks in the bulk head doors. It seems that with water coming into the basement, different contractors will have the same opinions, so definitely get at least 3 estimates and see what they suggest to be done.

John and Jason did a great job. It was suppose to be a 2 day Job and they were able to knock it out in 1 because they brought 5 guys. They showed up right on time, explained the process and got right to work. DryCrete prides themselves on quality work and customer service (both of which they excel). When they finished, the crew cleaned everything up and gave me a walkthrough of the new system. John the owner followed up a few days later to make sure I was happy (which I was).

No work was done. The consultation and estimate were professional and topnotch. The methods and materials proposed were excellent, no compromise, and extensive. Pricing was very good.
Description of Work: Drycrete came to our home to give an estimate to install approximately 170 ft of perimeter "French" drain in our finished basement. They proposed two separate sump pit locations with two pumps and two separate pump out locations through the foundation wall. Electrical work was not included. The methods and materials proposed were topnotch. In the end, we decided not to have Drycrete do the work. We found another company that proposed to do the work using very similar techniques and quality of materials, but with two pumps installed in one pit location that was more favorable for draining the water away from our property once it was pumped outside. This second company required that we do a lot less preparation work to our finished basement before they came to do their work. They were also willing to route the drain around our finished bathroom, eliminating the need for floor and wall tile repair afterward. They also had a more favorable flood warranty on the finished system. Drycrete had a clause in their contract that stated to the effect the they were not responsible for any foundation damage as a result of their work, the second company did not have that. The second company could also schedule the job sooner. The second company's estimate was about 10% higher.

Originally Drycrete estimated it would take 5 days to complete, it actually only 3. The job was extremely loud and messy, but the crew was very conscientious, notified me about every change in the plan, and cleaned up after themselves (they even picked the extra gravel out of my lawn!). It's rained about 1.5 inches over the past two days, and the basement is dry. Seemed a bit pricey at the time, but I'm currently not downstairs trying to pump water out of my basement...so it was worth it.

Our house was not spared by the rains in Massachusetts in March 2010, and our first story took in a great deal of ground water; so, along with other 1500 homeowners, we called a different company (not Drycrete) immediately to install a sump pump. After 2 cancellations on their part (one a no-show), and $3000 of down-payment later, we terminated the contract with them and decided to shop around. We found Drycrete on the Better Business Bureau and noticed it had an A+ rating. We were a bit skeptical at first, since it had only been in the system for a year or so, but we went with them anyway because of the service we had received in the estimate process. It was NOT the cheapest one we found, but it was worth it to know we would get a trustworthy contact on the other side, and we are happy to report we made the right choice. The foreman, and owner of the company, John, picked up the phone himself. He stopped by the same week and gave us an estimate. After shopping around with other companies, we decided to go with John due to his immediate responsiveness and no-nonsense approach to the work. He was very honest and definitely knew what he was talking about after having been in the business since his father started it 30 years ago. We also appreciated the fact that he himself would supervise the job on site, and that we had access to his cellphone, which rarely went to voicemail. When it did, we consistently received a call back the same day. He was committed to making sure we had a positive experience. On the day of the job, John walked me through the entire process. We discussed the location of the discharge pipes and agreed on the terms. His workers were a pleasure to be around. Not only were they very kind and polite, but they also made sure the work area remained clean and organized (I later found out that they actually get measured on this, and they were meticulous about the cleanliness of the job site). They were most certainly not sloppy, and made us feel extremely comfortable with having them do work in our home. They were even comfortable allowing me to record video of the process, which I plan on sending to them in a CD for their use. We were extremely satisfied with the results. The pumps work great, the area is all picked up and simply perfect. Exactly what we were expecting. If I had to find one let down, I'd probably have to say that John said he would arrive between 7:30 and 8:30 on the first day, but actually called me at 8:45 to say he'd be here in 5-10min, which he was. I guess I just mention it so that others don't hold this against him. The actual job was worth gold and we were willing to overlook the tardiness on day 1. They did arrive at 8:30 on day 2. For any kind of waterproofing needs, I recommend John and his crew from Drycrete. I even created this AngiesList account and signed up for membership ONLY so that I could give them a positive review. I wish them the best in their future endeavors.
Description of Work: Installation of 2 sump pumps in bottom level of raised ranch house. The work was finished early at 2 days of work (original estimate was 3-4 days). The first day, a team of 3 workers and a supervisor (owner of the company, John), set up shop. Day 1 (9am-4pm) was mostly devoted to drilling through the cement foundation and carving out about 2 feet of dirt, where the pipe would go (worker 1 drilled, worker 2 dug, and worker 3 hauled away the big rocks, dirt and cement). Day 2 (8:30am-8pm), also 3 workers, was devoted to finishing the digging, putting the pipes in, filling with gravel, placing the pumps and buckets in the ground, and cementing over the entire perimeter, as well as putting down the discharge pipes outside the house (hidden in the ground). The supervisor stopped by a few times to make sure the team and work were under control. At the end of Day 2, the team dropped a bucket of water into each pump bucket, and we watched them work perfectly. At that time, we paid in full. No down payment or advance was ever requested from us.

I contacted Drycrete to have an estimate completed at my house. They were very cordial in setting up the time and responsive. However, on the day of the estimate (a Sunday), the employee never showed up. He called and said he would be at my house within 15-20 minutes. After an hour, I called him back with no answer and then called back another hour later and still no response. I emailed the company to let them know of the inconvenience and my disappointing experience. They have not returned my message.

Response from Drycrete Waterproofing
As the member had mentioned, we were very responsive and cordial in setting up the date and time, as we are for all of our customers. In this member's situation, the estimator got into a car accident about 10 minutes before arriving to the estimate. Since it was a Sunday and the office was closed, our office lines were forwarded to this estimator who was in no position to take any calls. We have spoken to the member since and apologized for the missed appointment due to this unexpected situation and he was understanding and agreed to reschedule the appointment. We are confident that the member will experience the same high level of customer service as we provide all of our customers.

This company is great. They were very responsive and good about follow up with scheduling before the job and the estimate was fair. Because they were busy it took awhile for them to come to do the work, but when they did they were right on time. When the workers came to do the job I was even more impressed. They were professional and efficient and did an absolutely beautiful job. It was well worth the money. Why can't all contractors be this good?

basement waterproofing

After having our basement flood for the second time in less than a month -- after almost 30 years of no problem, we were anxious to fix the problem. Drycrete quickly gave us an estimate and completed the work within a few days. John didn't try to oversell us, suggesting that with our situation, the pumps were likely to be adequate. Since then, we've had a company that checks for mold come in and look at the basement. They commented on how good a job was done.
Description of Work: Installation of 2 sump pumps.
