Fantastic. Our retaining wall project was held up because during excavation we discovered that our decrepit old gas line needed to be relocated the day before the National Grid lockout started but it was well worth the wait. Marty is an artist with impeccable attention to detail and was fantastic to work with.

Marty was extremely profession and detail oriented both in estimating the job and in completing it. He took his time to complete the work carefully and explained the process to me. In witnessing Marty's work and looking at the finished surround, it is clear that he takes great pride in his craft. In restoring the surround, he had a full understanding of what we were trying to achieve and how important it was to us that the work blended into the other restorations we had done in the room. He delivered the work he said that he would on time and at the estimated amount. If you're looking for a stone mason on in eastern Massachusetts, I would strongly recommend him.

Marty was great. He designed our new fireplace from scratch, including meeting us at the stoneyard, advising us on what would look right and save money. He demo'd the existing brick pad and, with John Barstow - the carpenter, built a new fireplace and chimney (facade) for a Valor gas fireplace. Marty, John and Marty's masonry apprentice did a great job, and once onsite got it down quickly. We are extremely happy with the results and get lots of compliments. The fireplace Marty designed and built for us is the centerpiece of our living room.

He was so awesome, I called 7 other masons, and got a lot of song and dance. You could actually see through this guy, he came on a Sunday to give me an estimate, and he like got me right in, because the weather was getting cold and he was worried about the weather. My tenant drove into the front wall while she was talking on her cell phone. All the brick had to be perfectly matched, and they had to get aged brick. This guy did such an awesome job, and his name is Marty Harteman. His pricing was great, he cleaned up, and he was like, not bad to look at either. He was very well put together, a lot of guys show up and perception is reality, you can tell when somebody doesn't know what he is talking about. He is excellent. He was here in October. I am going to have him come back and do my front steps. He was a great referral. The job was overall excellent. When a guy comes out on a Sunday morning, and he is punctual, and he was knowledgeable, he cleaned up, he is a nice guy. I referred him to a neighbor of my parents. He followed up, he was great with confirming the appointments, and he is a good guy. It is a small operation, but really intimate detail. I just went and looked at the brick work to see the work. It is very cold here, and the work he did is beautiful.His prices were very competitive. He was dressed nicely, and you can tell a lot when they come.

Went great. Marty came in to view job and gave me estimate. I honestly did not get any other estimates because I trusted him from start. We went over three options and he directed me where to go to view stone. We discussed an option for the hearth which was costly and his suggestion to go with brownstone worked out fine. He dropped me off a sample so I did not have to return to stone shop. He and helper prepared site, encasing themselves in an area that they built so debris would not travel through the house. Marty returned and completed job in timely manner. Workmanship was excellent and it looks great!!,

They did a fantastic job. We are in an old 1920's bungalow with existing stone work. Marty did a beautiful job melding the new work with the existing. He's really an artisan who clearly cares about his craft and it shows. He finished when he said he would and came in at budget. A pleasure to work with.

Marty responded to my email requesting an estimate immediately and arrived to inspect the job within two weeks of the intial email. He stayed in close touch about his schedule and due to other ongoing jobs completed my job on a weekend day to accomodate my eagerness to get the work done. The job was completed within a month of our initial contact via email. He was thorough and made sure that the site was cleaned prior to leaving. I would recommend Marty for masonry work again and plan to do some inside work later this year with him.

Company owner Marty is truly a master craftsman of his trade and a stone artist. He works hard, cares about the details, takes pride in his quality work, has a friendly pleasant personality and is easy to talk to. He showed concern in trying to keep the cost within our budget by helping us reduce the materials cost which we are grateful for. He helped us in our wish to deviate from the standard stone colors to satisfy our personal desires, which made a huge difference to us in the finished work and we are very happy with the results.

Marty did a excellent job. He is professional and very pleasant. Marty worked for two days on this project. He was on time and he cleaned up after the work was done. Marty is awesome! He showed up early and provided a blunt assessment of the situation: there wasn't anything he could do. The situation would require a non-masonry solution, but he specializes in masonry. Needless to say I was floored. How often do you find a contractor willing to admit that a problem was outside his speciality? Marty is definitely one of the most confident, knowledgeable, and honest contractors I've met in a long time. I couldn't hire Marty for this project, but I have plenty of masonry projects coming up in the future. And he's going to be the first, and perhaps only, mason that I'll call.

Marty worked around delays in our schedule due to the building inspector's office and still met our projected completion date. Marty is a perfectionist but he does not let it slow him down! There are always challenges in any project but he thinks through an issue and implements a solution that works. Marty was not familiar with the veneer product we used but researched the installation instructions on the website and took the time to do it right. He is smart, creative and was very respectful of our home. Marty was even patient with the dogs who constantly wanted to help. I highly recommend him for any stone work and hope that we have an opportunity to work with him again. We have coordinated many home improvement projects and our experience with Marty ranks at the top in terms of quality of work, professionalism and overall satisfaction compared with any contractor.

A great job was done on the brick repair of my front steps. Job completed by company owner. Punctual. Courteous. Very neat. Stairs look great! Fair price. Plan to use in the future for repair of my walkway.

Marty promptly provided a quotation and started work on the date he stated in the quote. At the end of each day Marty reviewed work done and the work to be performed the following day. Marty was flexible and accomodating to changes in the project when unforseen problems occurred, such as encountering ledge where none was anticipated. The project was completed in an acceptable time frame and to our satisfaction.

Marty was quick to respond to our inquiry for an estimate, provided a reasonable estimate and was able to start the work immediately. We had a few delays with weather etc, but overall his responsiveness was excellent, easy to talk to and work with. His quality of work is excellent and we LOVE our new stairs.

We could not be happier with the way the stairs turned-out. We get rave reviews from everyone who sees them. Throughout the project (which was way more involved than either we or Marty envisioned at the outset), Marty was thoughtful in design decisions, and meticulous in execution. Also he's a really nice guy and we were confident giving him run of the house while we were away at work during the 6 week project. We'll hire him for future masonry work without hesitation - and recommend him highly to others!

Last winter we had water coming in under the basement under the stairs from gaps in the foundation and around the basement door. The sandbags we used to block the water were disintegrating and I wanted to take advantage of the unseasonably warm water to repoint the trouble areas and get rid of the sand bags. I was also concerned about matching the color of the mortar to the existing 1915 field stone foundation. Marty Hardiman came over on a Sunday (since he was booked on another project that week) to deal with the gaps and cracks that caused us so much grief last winter. After more than 4 hours of work that included replacing disintegrated field stones, and two batches of charcoal-dyed mortar, we should now have a water-tight foundation. Marty clearly loves stone and wants the work to be done correctly. He offered to come over on a Sunday when he thought that I might put foam in the gaps rather than fixing them properly. He gave us ideas for refacing our fireplace and rebuilding our retaining walls. His communication by phone and e-mail was excellent and he was a pleasure to work with.
