I accepted the first proposal and I wrote them a check. A few days later I decided not to do it and they returned the check. Everything is all right, so they didn't actually do any work. They did give me an estimate. It would have been about $4000. I could get rebates from the Federal government and tax free loans to help pay for it. They gave me a free estimate. I can buy the system at the store and pay someone to install it. They came out, gave me the estimate quickly, and I have no complaints about the estimate.
Description of Work: 128 Plumbing, Heating & Cooling gave me a proposal and an estimate. Part of the system is outside and the other part of the system is inside, so it is expensive.

The initial bid process was a bit slow - as we contacted them in the summertime after purchasing a new home. After we finally got the bid in place and started the actual process they were great. They worked with us not only on getting the right equipment, but also helped us prepare all the paperwork required for the MassSave heat loan. The mechanic, John, who did the initial install was professional and courteous - taking his time to explain what he was doing when we had questions, and worked hard to get the job done ahead of a cold snap that would have been particularly rough without heat. After the initial install we had a little trouble tuning the system - but 128 were extremely helpful and responsive, up the point where the owner Dave and another boiler technician came out to help work out some kinks in the system. We have a 100 year old house, so there's a certain amount of adjustment needed to make a new system work, but once they finished up we haven't had any problems. After everything was done they sent along all of the paperwork to apply for available rebates, which all we had to do was sign and stick in the mail. We were quoted a few less expensive options from other companies, but the level of service and reputation of 128 made the decision a no brainer. I would highly recommend to anyone, and would use them again without hesitation.
Description of Work: 128 installed a new gas fired boiler for our steam radiators, replacing an oil system as well as an on-demand hot water heater. As part of the new system install they hauled away the old system including the oil tank. They also ran all of the gas lines and hooked up a new gas range/oven.

Was referred to 128 by NextStepLiving Mass Save contractors. They did not prove worthy of any recommendation. President of the company and another person showed up on time and gave a reasonable thorough assessment, but did not provide ANY documentation on either their quote or the equipment that they would install. Basically just wrote a number on a price of paper, and then didn't even leave the scratch paper with me. President of company did not respond to my email requesting more information, and neither was an email to their information email address answered. Their quote was not excessively high, but it was significantly higher than the quote I subsequently got for top quality components, which I doubt 128 would have used given that they did not give me model numbers. Complete unprofessional. President told me they did dozens and dozens of Mass Save referrals every year. They are clearly abusing this and only taking customers who have no questions and will sign up for whatever they recommend without a shred of documentation or diligence about what is appropriate to install.

Reached out for a quote for boiler conversion from oil to gas. Did not pick them, because frankly they did not listen to what I have asked for and quoted on what they wanted to quote. Scroll forward to bit over a year, I get telemarketing phone call from Boston Solar stating that they "partnered up" with 128 Plumbing. I did not give permission for my name to be sold to some other company. This is very unprofessional! F for that!

This didn't go well. The system was installed a few days before Christmas and while the team was pleasant, they were in a rush to get the job done and the installation was not done correctly. I woke up on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with no heat in my home - this was only 1-2 days after the installation. To his credit, Dave (the owner) came and did repair work right away. For the next few weeks we had sporadic heat and hot water. I was told on 3 separate occasions that there was nothing wrong with the system. Finally, on the 4th visit Joe (the lead technician) informed me that there was wiring in the system that was not connected properly. The wires were able to touch each other but could separate due to any sort of vibration. They weren't secured properly, which was the reason for our inconsistent heat and hot water. I think that Dave is a nice guy and an honest businessman. But I don't think his team is capable of managing jobs without his direct supervision. You take what you're given when you sign up for the MassSave program. This one didn't work out. I would not recommend the company to other potential customers.

I have used 128 quite a few times for different services., but have been wondering about pricing. I also had an estimate for wall unit ACs that was very out of line with other providers. The last straw was this visit where the quote was over $900. This seemed so high to me but what do I know about plumbing. The claim was that tiles had to be popped out to get to the pipes, restoration plates...sounded like a lot... Bad luck for me. By luck they were unavailable to do the work that day so I found another plumber available sooner. In fact there is a tool to fix this and in the end I was charged $287. This is a shameful difference. It is my guess they didn't know this more cost effective approach but they should, they are plumbers!

It was made apparent to me that your dissatisfaction with the service call was because we provided an option for replacement and not for the repair. I reviewed the service call with my technician. Although the cost associated with the replacement of a shower valve replacement is appropriate, I do believe our technician should have done a better job in providing the repair cost as well which have resulted in a similar price point. Our apologies, and our service should be better.

128 was fast to respond to my call on a Saturday and prompt to address my immediate need in a very expeditious manner. Overall I am happy with the requested service performed, though it was quite pricey (likely due to the Saturday call). Aside from that though, the additional consultation was rife with multiple and blatant upsell attempts. I have had multiple home builders in my home and all completed the work of the original HVAC contractor. According to 128 however, I have everything from suspect used equipment, underperforming cooling units (btw, no problem cooling the home), and numerous other issues. Taking their advice, I would be out several thousands of dollars to rip and replace my system. Furthermore the technician went on to speak negatively about several other providers in the area despite saying "I hate to talk bad about anyone else.." only to go on and list 3-5 of them. Unprofessional in my opinion. My advice, if you want a simple service, they are fine. But be ready to say no to anything you didn't ask for.
Description of Work: Remove and replace flex hose for air intake in my HVAC and replaced an external screen due to a bird's nest in the hose. Additionally performed a check on my Freon levels in the a/c unit.

While the system is now functioning properly there were some bumps along the way. However, I am satisfied with the final outcome and pleased with the system performance. The initial installation was done neatly and the premises were left as clean as they were prior to work beginning.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM! BEFORE I HIRED, I DID SEVERAL ESTIMATES AND EXPLAINED THAT I NEEDED SOMEONE TO DO IT ON THE WEEKED, FROM THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY BECAUSE THE FURNICE WAS ON MY HOME OFFICE AND I NEEDED THE SPACE FREE FROM STRANGERS AND ORGANIZED TO MEET WITH CLIENTS THE OTHER DAYS. HE SAID IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE. THEN AFTER I GAVE THE DEPOSIT AND COMMITED WITH HIM, THEY ENDED UP SCHEDULING TO START 2 MONTHS AFTER THE GAS WAS INSTALLED ON MY HOUSE FROM THE STREET, SAID IT WOULD NEED TO START ON MONDAY, AND IT WOULD BE DONE ON FRIDAY. I HAD TO CANCEL ALL MY CLIENTS FOR THAT WEEK TO ACOMODATE THEM, SINCE THEY DIDN'T CARE ABOUT WAS PREVIOUSLY AGREED BEFORE I HIRE THEM. THE GUYS COULD EASILY DO THE WHOLE THING IN 3 DAYS AS THEY USE TO ARRIVE LATE IN THE MORNING AND LEAVE VERY EARLY AROUND 3:00PM. WHEN I TALKED ABOUT IT WITH THE MASTER CONTRACTOR, HE SAID: WHY WE WOULD DO THINGS DIFFERENT FOR YOU THEN WE DO TO ANYONE ELSE BY FINISHING IN LESS THEN 1 WEEK? WHEN I REMINDED HIM ABOUT OUR CONVERSATION DURING THE ESTIMATE, HE JUST IGNORED ME. THEN WE KEEP HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE SYSTEM (TAKING COLD SHOWERS, NO HEAT IN THE HOUSE, ETC) UNTIL THIS DAY AND EVERY TIME WE SCHEDULE FOR THEM TO COME AND FIX IT THEY CANCEL!!! THE GIRLS WHO ANSWER THE PHONE ARE POLITE. BUT IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THE COMPANY. AS THE ATTENDANTS DON'T ACTUALLY DO THE WORK OR CAN DECIDE ANYTHING, IT DOES NOT DO MUCH FOR THE CLIENT. RUN AWAY FROM 128 PLUMBING AND HEATING!!!!

We really enjoyed meeting with Dave to discuss converting from oil to gas and replacing our hot water heater. Katie was great in the front office and scheduled Dave to meet with us right away. He told us a lot about the benefits of high efficiency appliances. It sounds like he's been in the business on the north shore for a long time. He estimated the cost of converting from oil to natural gas and installing a 90%+ efficiency system to be around $10,000, which was comparable to other estimates we received. However, we never received a formal estimate via email. We emailed twice, once to the office and once directly to Dave, but we didn't receive a reply. We left a message with the office just over two weeks after our meeting but still no contact. We hoped it was just a matter of having the wrong email address, but a follow-up phone call would have been fine. We are disappointed that we've had to seek out another plumber because Dave was so informative and has received other rave reviews. We wish the best to him and his team.
Description of Work: We called 128 Plumbing to discuss converting our old 1,000 sq. ft. condo from oil to gas heat and replacing our hot water heater. No service was provided in the end beyond an initial consultation.

The task went smoothly, he suggested due to the age of the toilet (45 years) I should consider replacing it with a more efficient unit, but he didn't insist on it at this tme. I was simply a recommendation to consider. When Mike arrived, (He's the principal owner) he was professioinally attired, clean and personable. He placed cover-ups on his footwear prior to entering the house. I took him to the master bath explained what the problem was and he advised me what he could do. I agreed to his replacing of the flushing mecha ism, he got to work and completed the task in about an hour and cleaned up. He asked how I found his service I told him from Angie's list and applied a 10% discount to the invoice and was on his way. I was and am pleased with his promptness, thoughness of his work and would use him again in the future. t
Description of Work: Contacted 128 Plumbing and Heating on July 11th. Mike said he would be at my home at 9:00AM on the 12th. He arrived at about 9:10 AM. Told him of the issue, replacement of toilet tank mechanism to regulate flow of water in Master bathroom, he got right to work and completed everything promptly. Cleaned-up afterwards and provided tips for the future.

Being new to the Boston area several years ago, we needed a relationship with a heating and plumbing firm, an electrician and a general contractor. We found 128 Plumbing and have been thrilled with them since. They have installed central AC for us, fixed and maintained our heating system and have been available as needed for assorted plumbing issues. We have found them to be punctual, competent, honest and fair in all aspects of their dealings with us. They run it like a real business. They get back to you immediately and are honest in their assessments. Good firm to have a long term relationship with.

For simple maintenance items, I think they may suffice. Overall, I wouldn't ask them to do anything major.
Description of Work: My 75 gallon hot water tank was 6 months away from it's 6yr warranty expiration date. I noticed it was cycling for long time (hours) before it would light properly. On a couple mornings the hot water ran out relatively quickly, and finally one morning there was none. I called 128 to get a quote to fix and / or replace the tank, and they promptly sent out someone the same day. Long story short, I was initially told the parts he thought would fix the problem (igniter & gas valve) were not covered by warranty. I questioned it and looked up the warranty while I asked him if he could double check. To his credit, he said he was mistaken and they were covered, just not the labor. Strike 1 He said he'd look into the availability of the parts and get back to me in a little bit. At the same time, he gave me a ballpark figure to replace the water heater and address some plumbing issues. The estimate was roughly $1,000 more than what the owner eventually quoted. Strike 2 After sitting in the driveway for two hours, he came back and said he'd have the owner get back to me later in the day. He then wanted to be paid for coming out. I explained I was never told about being charged for the call, and he reluctantly let it go but not without giving me his 2 cents. Strike 3 I didn't hear back from them for 2 weeks. EJECTED They did not get the job.

128 Plumbing provided a detailed estimate, stuck with the price and had the conversion completed on schedule. Dave (company owner) was onsite for the estimate and was great answering questions. The worker who performed the conversion was professional and left the area clean. Katy (office) was really helpful when dealing with the paperwork needed for the gas rebate program. The system has been up and running since the early fall and we are very happy with the service provided to us by 128 Plumbing.
Description of Work: We converted from oil heat system to gas heat system. System was about 50 years old. Needed to take out the old furnace and oil tank and put in a new energy efficient furnace. Had to vent out the sill and put a liner in the orphaned chimney. Replaced old thermostat with electronic thermostat.

I scheduled an appointment a week in advance for a heating consultation. We were told someone would be at our house at 5;30 on the checuled day. No one showed up. I called the next morning and was told they were "very sorry" and they just had a crazy day. They rescheduled for 5:30 that same night. Again, none showed up. I understand emergencies come up, but I expect at least a cancelation phone call. We will find a different company.

It was fine but we were charge an obscene amount. We had a plumber come out last week for a separate issue (different company) and the quote for the same job was nearly $200 less. This is the same plumber the prior owners used for everything so we live and learn--we will not use such a major chain. We were told by many that we were totally screwed on the price. He also was supposed to leave us a piece for attachment with the line that he neglected to do and we had to go to HD and purchase this. For over $400, I would expect a $5 peace would have been left. Flipside, they were prompt and courteous, just waaaayyyy overpriced. I would not use them again given the steep price for such a minor job.
Description of Work: We needed a water line installed for a refrigerator that was being delivered. He had to go through the bathroom and work via that water line.

Dave Williams, the owner, did the estimate and was at the job site periodically during the two day job. Izzy was the main technician. Everyone was completely professional and worked very hard. The work was high quality and we are very pleased with our new heating system. We look forward to using this company again - they clearly take a great deal of pride in their work and do not cut corners. Dave (the owner) and Maria (in the office) were wonderful to work with.
Description of Work: Replaced oil furnace with ultra-high efficiency gas furnace (warm air, 120,000BTU American Standard).Our house already had gas service. Price included high efficiency filter for new furnace, new intake/exhaust at side of house, patching the chimney where old furnace had vented, new vent pipe for hot water heater, new thermostat, removal of old equipment, and permits.

My wife called this company on Saturday morning, 11am. Guy who picked up said he isn't the one that does house calls but his technician will. After discussion on phone about the issue we had, the price estimate, he said he would have the technician call us before coming out which would be a window between 12 and 2 pm. 2pm rolls by, no phone call. My wife calls back, leaves messages. It's now Monday afternoon, and still haven't heard from this company yet. Whether they come or not, or if there were issues they were dealing with that prevented them from coming out, they should have called to let us know. We effectively stopped calling other companies thinking they would show up. We lost about 3 hours that day, and I know hot water problems might not be on the top of a company's priority list but a little bit of professionalism and courtesy as a service provider would have been appreciated. We needed hot water asap since Friday evening, my infant son threw up all over himself and needed a bath. It's safe to say I won't be calling 128 plumbing for any of my plumbing needs and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone in my town (and we know quite a few families in this town).
Description of Work: Had a problem where I had no hot water in the house. Called this company for rates, and to stop by to fix.

We completed a very large project with them. We have a permanent arrangement with them for plumbing and heating. It is an ongoing thing. The experience with them was great. They are very competent and professional. They came back and did a really good job in terms of re-testing and making sure everything was wired. They corrected some things which were wrong which we knew about. We were very pleased with them and their interaction. They are good people and it was a good experience. They are Professional, competent and they are a small company. If you want them then you would have to schedule them but they are very responsive too. They are honest with their pricing and we have never had a problem with that.
Description of Work: I used the service of 128 Plumbing in June to install central air conditioning in our condo.

Overall the job was done professionally. Their price I think is on the high end for plumbing...plumbing work it seems is never cheap. They charge flat rate pricing which tends to favor the contractor, not the consumer.
Description of Work: I had an outside water spigot replaced, shut off valve installed and a section of pipe repaired(had water in the line and froze, separating 2 sections of pipe at an elbow). The shutoff valve that was replaced was a very old one that was corroded. Joe from 128 plumbing had replaced it with a ball valve that was much more reliable and added a drainage plug that I can use to drain the pipe after it is shut off so that I wouldn't run into the same problem.

Izzy was the technician/plumber who did 90% of the work. He was an exceptionally hard worker, and he was very polite and cheerful (remarkable because we have low ceilings in the basement and he is very tall). All the work was done in a week (as per the quote), and we were only without heat in January for about 4 hours (which is remarkable). Dave, the owner, was very good about payment, as we had a "HEAT" loan for the work, which meant we couldn't pay until the work was finished. The system has saved us loads of money, as Dave promised, and was installed perfectly.
Description of Work: They replaced my entire heating system and converted my old oil boiler to a new high efficiency gas boiler. They replaced all the pipes leading to the radiators and installed two zones for heating (first and second floor) where there was only one before. They removed the old oil tank and boiler and relocated a radiator. They also helped me process energy efficiency rebates and filed the rebates for me that they could.

As with past services I have hired them for they have always been very professional and pleasant to deal with. The technician was a little late but once he arrived he was very thorough. I was very happy with their service for this visit as well as for past service calls (I used them for some plumbing and heating work as well).
Description of Work: I hired to 128 Plumbing to perform an annual tune up for my AC. They also added additional coolant to the system.
