Tolland Mountain Builders were prompt and professional from the initial cost estimate thru the final repair. Cost was competitive but I believe quality of the work is superior.

The project unfolded better than I ever dreamed it would. From helping me do the design work, to moving through the permitting process, to doing all the tree clearing and site work, all the way through to the exterior finish; Steve and Nick were absolutely phenomenal. They are a nice small Father / Son company, so they did not have to work within a large corporation structure with preset rules and designs. As they are small they can be quite competitive on price, while being able to build a quality into their buildings that most cannot provide. Their attention to detail is amazing. From making sure everything is perfectly framed and plumb, to things like only driving siding nails into the wall studs so there is no risk to wiring inside. I just cannot say enough about them and the level of quality they strive to build. And the subcontractors they partner with for things like excavation and sheetrock and electrical we're all excellent . These guys have worked with their subs for years. I think in many cases they grew up together. They have have built a network of subs that allows them to take on just about any project. Nothing is too small or too large. Steve is the dad. He has worked in the business for decades and has experience to draw on that made the job just so much simpler. Nick is the son and his building and design skills are superseded by no one. From design to finish they made he process simple and easy. And their quality is better than I have ever seen. Right from the beginning as they took me through other projects they had built I could see their goal was to always build to a high standard. They always answered the phone when I called. And the few changes I discovered I needed to make in design as the project unfolded were handled quickly and easily. I looked at several building companies. And I looked at the prefab companies like Morton and Lester buildings for my garage / shop project. But what frustrated me most about everyone else is they continually kept trying to force me into their predesigned / predetermined way of building what they though I needed. With Morton and Lester I kept getting "we cannot do that, but we can do this." All Steve and Nick ever said was "let's see how we can make that work..." and a day later would come back with another sketch / design that would meet my needs and a cost I could afford. And they would politely say "have you thought of this as an alternative?" When they saw I was making a mistake in my design ideas. At the end of the day what sold me the most on TMB was their size. It just felt so much safer trusting a project I had been planning for decades to Nick and Steve. I had been saving for this since I started working 30 years ago. It was a lifetime in the planning. And I just did not feel safe with the other companies. Steve and Nick can just be trusted and put whatever time was needed into working with me long before any contract was even signed. And they are just good honest people. They are leaders within their communities with one being a volunteer selectmen in the town he lives while the other a volunteer board of education member in the town he lives. And one is also a volunteer firefighter in his town. And both are family oriented and have spent their lives building great families. And they put the same level of care into each building they build. They are just honest and caring men. They just felt safe to trust my project to, and I would trust them again with any project I have in the future... They built me the garage / workshop of my dreams. Without them I cold have never made me dream become a reality.

Everything was done on time and budget. Even changes to the original design in the middle were dealt with professionally. This was just my woodworking shop and storage. The quality, workmanship and detail was incredible, i just wish the people that built my house would have done 1/2 as good a job as these guys did! They showed me that it doesn't matter whether it's a $400k house, or a $30k garage, you always to the best job you can no matter what.
