We were getting ready to move into our basement during a ground floor renovation. In the past, we had had a radon test that showed elevated levels, and had corrected that by sealing cracks in the concrete floor. In cleaning up the basement we discovered many more cracks, and feared that radon would again be a problem, and thought we didn't have time to do another test. I called John to see if he could install a remediation system quickly so we could stay on schedule with our renovation. He said he would be happy to do so, but recommended that we first seal the cracks and do a test to see if it is needed. On the phone, he walked me through step by step how we could seal the cracks ourselves (including advising me on what to use to seal them) and he gave me the name of a testing company that would process the test within one day. We sealed the cracks, ran the test and hand delivered it for processing, and had the results, all within a week. The radon levels were below the levels at which remediation is necessary, so John saved us $900 or so by being honest and giving us sound advice. If we ever have a problem where we need a remediation system installed, I will definitely call him! Very helpful, professional, knowledgable and honest. What more could you ask for?
Description of Work: Gave advice over the phone about how to quickly seal and test our basement before spending a lot of money buying a remediation system from him (which I was prepared to do).

From the initial contact we set up an inspection appointment. John was punctual and professional in the assessment. Some homes are constructed such that either an internal or external system can be installed, so we discussed the pros and cons of each. My wife and I decided on the exterior one and proceeded to schedule it. We asked about payment methods, but they only accept checks, not credit cards. They reconfirmed the day before our scheduled date and were prompt and efficient. Our basement provided an ideal set up, so the installation was completed in less than 3 hours, but they usually plan on 4-5 hrs depending I would recommend Radon Systems to others.

I was very pleased with Radon Systems, LLC. John had a great attention to detail, was professional, courteous and followed through with the services promised.
Description of Work: I recently had my home tested for radon and was shocked to find out that we had been living in a home with elevated radon levels for a number of years. I researched radon remediation companies (on Angie's list and elsewhere) and found Radon Systems,LLC to be highly recommended across the board. I contacted the company and spoke to the owner, John. John was very knowledgeable and responsive in answering every one of my questions. After our first conversation, I felt confident that he would do everything in his power to decrease the radon levels in the house. Throughout the whole process, John was very professional, punctual and finished the job in the time he said he would. He was also right on the money with his price quote. He was successful in remediating the radon in my house and I couldn't be happier with the whole process. I would recommend him without hesitation to friends and family with any radon concerns. Thanks so much, John

The C grade is because John could not fix the problem. He came out numerous times to our home to install and later tweak the system, and the radon levels did not decrease. After 3 or 4 visits, he eventually told me my home "may not be fixable." This was not true, as another company later located the source of the radon and levels have now decreased to below EPA action levels. John was however, professional and courteous throughout the entire process. He also refunded my money since part of his service is to guarantee to reduce your radon levels. John honored this guarantee and sent me a refund check promptly after I requested it.

Response from Radon Systems LLC
I appreciate the feedback whether positive or negitive. In response to this member's comment: This house was very unique, being a Tri-level (two of the three levels had soil beneath the concrete slabs). I followed up with the homeowner after the radon problem was resolved and she informed me that "there was an good size opening in the floor slab under the staircase." The homeowner and I were unaware of this opening. The area under the staircase was sealed off and not in sight. To show good faith her money was refunded and the radon system was left installed in the house.

Great. They gave us a time estimate of how long it could take, and they actually finished ahead of time. Then, when our post remediation came back a little high (below EPA standards, but not as low as they could have been), they came back a few weeks later (which was actually just within a few days of us getting our results back) and closed up a crawl space in our basement (it should be noted that on their original visit to give a quote, they pointed out this crawl space as something that might need to get closed off, but that as it was not a definite, they could always come back later, with no additional cost other than the normal costs associated with closing off the crawl space). Happy with the results. We can finally go in the basement without feeling the need to hold our breath!
Description of Work: When we bought our house, we had a slightly elevated radon reading in our unfinished basement. We had Radon Systems come out to take a look at things and get a quote. Then, about a week later, we had someone instal a sub slab ventilation system in our basement, which sucks the radon out of the basement. They also did some concrete repair in the basement for an extra $50, which keeps radon from seeping up into the basement (they told us we could do it ourselves and it would probably be cheaper, but we figured for $50 it was no big deal and it was one less thing we had to worry about ourselves).

John came and inspected the site, drew a map of the area, discussed what they would do, gave the estimate and guarantee. He was professional, personable, and direct. We hired him on the spot--our personal experience plus the Angie's List ratings. A couple of weeks later Dave came and installed the system, explaining again what would happen, the guarantee, and proper use of the test kit. Dave was also professional, personable and direct. Just after he left the house, I noticed that one expansion joint had not been sealed. I raced up and out and caught him just as he was going down the drive. He came back in, apologized, and sealed the joint, saving us both the time of a return trip. The exterior fan noise is barely noticeable. When placing my hand on the pipe near the exit from the house I can feel the air rushing by, doing its work. Very satisfying.
Description of Work: Installation of radon abatement system. Cracks sealed, two holes drilled in floor (large basement separated by a footing), piping installed, and exhaust fan (on exterior) installed. Left us with a test kit to use after 24 hours. If the radon level is above 2 pCi/L then they return and fix it free of charge.

The system installed reduced the radon level from an average of 8.3 pCi/L or 0.5 pCi/L which is excellent. John Spokis of Radon Systems was confident of the level of reduction he would achieve but he did a vacuum check up front to show me how well the system was working. The results proved his point. The work was done neatly and very professionally. The exhaust line is blended right in with my rain gutter and is almost undetectable. John provided references which I did check before hiring him. They were excellent and he performed as expected. I would recommend him without reservation. For reference, I did get multiple quotes before hiring Radon Systems.

I needed to have a radon remediation system installed in order to have my home sale move forward with the buyer. Radon levels in the unfinished basement were a little high, but very low (next to nothing) on the 1st floor. The company owner called me back promptly and provided an estimate promptly (as opposed to other radon remediators who didn't return my calls). He explained the entire process, how the system is installed, how it works, and how long it would take. The installer arrived promptly at the scheduled time, and performed the work in the amount of time I expected, and left no mess. The follow-up test kit was simple and instructions clear. The results came back, and the system had reduced the radon levels in the basement to almost zero. Based on my experience, this seems like a company who goes out of their way to explain things to the customer to avoid surprises, returns phone calls promptly, shows up when they are expected, and are efficient.

From the start John was very responsive and clearly knew what he was talking about. We easily scheduled the work and he promptly showed up on the day of the appointment. He walked me through what he was going to do and answered all my questions. We reviewed some different options, but he explained clearly why he was recommending a particular method and number of pipes (ie. I didn't want too many pipes entering the floor, I have both a new basement addition and old original basement). The install went very smoothly and he was very neat and conscientious in the routing of the pipes and pipe hangers. Cleaned up nicely and I could definitely tell that he took pride in his work. We settled the bill and he gave me two radon test to make sure we had solved the problem. He also stated he guarantee of getting radon levels to acceptable limits, all for the original price. Here is the part on why I would recommend Radon Systems, beyond my initial good comments. The testing came back with reduced numbers (50% reduction), but not below the EPA threshold for action. John was quick to come out again and follow up with a bigger fan (initial fan was selected to save energy based on suction tests, etc) and he installed it without hassle. He reiterated his company guarantee to me and was happy to make sure thing worked properly. The test from this modification was still slightly high, and once again John returned to install another pipe into the basement floor. Again, he was happy to come and make additional modifications. This time testing came back at acceptable levels. John and Radon systems are good communicators and hold true to their commitment to solve the problem. You may wonder why he didn't do all the stuff in the beginning but instead in stepwise fashion, but you should understand that it's a consideration of tradeoffs. Fan power consumption vs. suction. Since you have this thing on constantly, you want to try the most efficient fan for long term savings. 2. You don't want to make more holes in the basement floor than you need to and have pipe all over the place. So I actually appreciated his approach of not going full out right away! Finally, when I compared his work to that of another company's at a friends house, I could clearly see he was much more careful, etc. with his workmanship I'd recommend Radon Systems without hesitation.

Great, John is very responsive and professional. I was very impressed.
Description of Work: Had John come out to do an estimate and install of a Radon remission system. Original quoted cost was 950 for an external system, but I opted for an internal system with a bit of a price bump. John took his time putting the system in and did a great job snaking the system through closets as I requested. Fan was mounted in attic, and roof was properly sealed. John gave me a guarantee on the radon level, and after first test, the level remained to high. I reached back out to John, and he got back with me same day, and came out 2 days later to mount a larger fan at no additional charge. He is very professional, I would highly recommend him, as his guarantee is unsurpassed by all the companies I looked at.

It went great. After he finished installing the system I noticed that it could be heard in our bedroom (directly opposite the exterior fan). I called John that evening and he returned in a few days to not only replace the fan, but also reroute the PVC pipe at our request (purely aesthetic reasons). I did a Radon test (provided by Radon Systems LLC) and the results from the lab were 0.4. Our previous short-term test results were between 8 and 12. My fiancé and I were thrilled and couldn't be happier with the work.
Description of Work: After John's vacuum tests showed the original location I chose would not be effective (thus saving us the cost of a second system at a later date) we worked together to find a suitable alternate location. He spent considerable time working with me before we finally decided where the best place would be. He was fast and professional, always making sure to check with me before making changes to the house i.e. placement of the pipe. After the system was installed and running he showed me how to read the manometer and where to turn the system on/off if needed.

See above. Thinking of putting house on market but had reports of high radon in our area. Called Radon Systems, rep was out in 2 days and was very helpful, gave us a plan and a reasonable quote. I thought they would do test; turned out I had to do the test independently and then give them results. Results showed I did not need mitigation, but had I needed it I would have been very comfortable with this firm. No charge for coming out.

Of the three companies I called, John was the first to return my call and the first to come to the house to give an estimate. All three companies pretty much used the same remediation process, but I used Radon Systems LLC because they not only gave the lowest estimate but also guaranteed the lowest reading post remediation. After deciding to use Radon Systems LLC, John and his assistant came to the house the following week to do the remediation. After verifying placement of the system, they immediately got to work sealing cracks in the basement floor and running the remediation system to the outside of the house. Before I knew it they were done and John explained how the system worked and how to handle the post remediation test. The job site was so neat and clean and the whole system is very unobtrusive. If only all repairs could go this smoothly!!!! The post remediation test came back at 1.2, down from a reading of 7.

Kevin did an unbelievable amount of work in a day. He first drilled the floor and cleaned out a cavity for the air system. Then he installed the air system.
