Cole responded promptly to our request and visited our home to discuss our project. Cole was punctual and very professional at the initial visit and indicated we would hear from him soon with a quote for the project After 4+ weeks with no response and several email queries from me requesting an update, Cole replied that Rizon Design and Build was not interested in providing services for our project.
Description of Work: We are adding a 25'x30' great room addition with wraparound deck to our existing colonial home and were looking for a designer to provide contractor-orientated, biddable drawings and specifications, and to handle the general contracting responsibilities. The provider visited our home, listened to our requirements and stated that Rizion Design and Build would provide a quote for our project. We did not receive a quote.

I contacted Colston to bid on converting my unfinished attic to an office space. From the start, the discussion about what would be done was very collaborative. The first estimate was way beyond my means, and I was worried I would not be able to work with Rizon. Colston, however, to his credit, modified the plan to something more limited. He was upfront about the problems the attic posed, from a building code point of view, so we assessed expanding my then current office onto the front porch, and came up with a final plan. The Town of Arlington, MA required proof that the dimensions of the upper front porch were the same as when the building was constructed. We were never able to find these documents. One day, Colston came by and proposed that we build the office off the back of my unit. It took me a while to get my head around this, but it made sense. The price, for the outcome, was extremely reasonable. Colston worked closely with me at every point, to make sure we were on the same page before during and after the work. Work started in January, and was complete in May. Colston worked alongside his crew during the demolotion, framing and construction. His presence ensured that the work was done properly and corresponded to the plans. During the execution of the work, Colston and his crew were very conscientious, regarding protection of the rest of my unit from construction dust and minimization of disruption. The work proceeded quickly and efficiently, and the project was essentially complete, except punch list items. The design of the kitchen and office was executed pretty much as planned, and the functionality of these spaces is optimal and very aesthetically pleasing. And the process was very cordial and collaborative. Colston takes immense pride in his work, and he really cares and attends to the needs of his customers. This distinguishes him from most, if not all of his competition. I recommend Rizon Design and Build without reservation, for design, renovation and new construction for private residences.
Description of Work: New construction of 10'X16' office off the back of upper floor of two family condo, exterior and interior; Gut and renovation of kitchen.

Due to weather and a delivery of damaged materials, which Colston refused to accept, it did take longer than planned. Another factor was the elaborate and complicated assembly of the railings and bannisters. I am very pleased with the job, and thank Colston and Charlie for their work.
Description of Work: All the railings bannisters and trim on the front porch were replaced with the latest pvc type materials. The deck itself was power washed, sanded and two coats of polyurethane applied. Colston added a few trim details to add to the look. I was particularly impressed with the way the deck came back to it's original coloring.

I'm 66 years old and have dealt with contractors before. Never have I been so impressed with someone's work. Usually, contracts don't involve a lot of detail as to exactly what and how everything is to be done, because you're not sure the details and also it would be a huge amount of work. He did everything to high standards, and always incorporated extra touches to make the work custom and special and not just complying with the contract. One example is the added mahogany trim to work in the kitchen making it go from a good job to really eye-popping custom . He even added a custom-made light and wine rack feature over the butcher block (hand made) that is a real centerpiece. He takes real pride in his work. I am losing my vision so writing is difficult but I am willing to give out my number if anyone wants more he info/. The number is 978 897 6980 and my name is Ed Bruckert.

We sought a contractor for a few months to build our roof deck. From the first time we met Coleston we had a very good feeling. He really listened to our concerns and proposals and worked with us moreso than others from whom we had obtained consultations and estimates. He spent a lot of time on the first day really analyzing the space and made sure that he understood our vision. He also put some careful thought into how to build it without obstructing flow of water to avoid pooling and it was this evident attention to detail that we really liked about him and we decided to proceed. Coleston presented us with multiple options on how we could go about designing the deck. Once we agreed on one, he took care of the rest, from structural engineer, to permits, to electrician, to building crew, to painting, to clean-up. The work was done very professionally and he would immediately address any concerns or suggestions that we had. All of his subcontractors were easy-going, professional, polite, and hard-working. Cole is always receptive to feedback and it is clear that a satisfied customer is his top priority. In the end, he built a beautiful rooftop deck which we cannot wait to use. Really stunning. Coleston has a great eye for design and structure and included a lot of gorgeous finishing details, using a nice combination of colors and materials. We allowed him a fair amount of independence and he did not disappoint. He is a carpenter/woodworker by trade and added in a bunch of features (i.e. built-in shelving behind the door, lighting, two steps for a multi-level effect) which all turned out great. The cost of the work was more than we had expected. He had initially estimated about $20K, and the final price was about $29K. Cole stayed true to the original estimate for his part of the job. It was more than other estimates we had seen but he seemed worth the added difference. The added price was for 1) upgrade on decking from pressure-treated to mahogany (our decision), 2) increased time obtaining permits (apparently our town permit office is especially difficult, but we did expect that all of the permit costs were included), 3) higher costs from the electrician (unforeseen requirement from the town that we install a smoke detector in the stairwell), and 4) painting of the balusters and handrails (which we did not realize was not included). The only other thing I wish went slightly differently was our communication. There were a few things besides price that caught us by surprise. For example, we agreed to pay extra for a mahogany upgrade but did not realize it was only for the decking (floor only) and that the posts and balusters woud still be constructed of pressure-treated wood. Also, we assumed that the painting was included, unaware that this was not typically part of an estimate. Overall our experience was fantastic with him and we would definitely recommend Coleston and Rizon again. In fact we may have them build an addition to the deck later this year. If you are looking for beautiful worksmanship and an honest and hard-working contractor, you will not be disappointed with Rizon.
Description of Work: We hired Rizon to build a roof deck for us. The deck is approxiamtely 400 sqft, wooden with mahogany decking, three levels and includes a walkway. Balusters and railing made of pressure-treated wood which was painted. Electricity was installed including two floodlights, a hard-wired smoke detector for the central stairwell, and an outdoor socket. Obtained all permits through town, delivered material, built the deck, and cleaned up.

Rizon presents itself on providing quality. Cole is very professional and fun to work with. He was also very resposive to our questions even after the initial visit to discuss scope of work and initial pricing. Cole presented his vision for our basement and even though it sounded great on paper, in the end we felt he was providing us a higher end basement which was not what we were looking for. All in all Rizon appeared to have the expereince and capability of providing a quality finished product but they just weren't for us.

I was very impressed with this contractor. At first he came in and listened to our suggestions, then gently showed us the possibilities which he then implemented flawlessly. The design aspect was impressive. He designed a custom copper island hood that matched the dimensions and scale of the room. I scratched my head for a bit then fell in love with it. Coleston was respectful of the rest of our house and did his best to contain construction dust to the kitchen area. Other than a slight delay due to the appliance supplier, the job came in on schedule. Another aspect is after-job service. A few questions came up about the appliances and the granite. He was there quickly and offered solutions and corrections even in one case when it really was due to our own actions and not his. This guy is the best.

We love our new kitchen. This company's 20 years of experience really shows. The owner is a great manager. He worked with his crew, as well as with the electricians, plumbers, and painters, etc., everyday of the the project. They are also custom woodworkers and the cabinetry and built-ins they created and installed were way beyond our expectations. At night, the lighting they installed on dimmer switches makes our 21st century kitchen look like it is sitting under a starry sky. We would never use any other contractor. Our kitchen looks like it cost twice as much as it did. They can design, build, and repair anything throughout your home.
Description of Work: Remodeled my outdated Cape Cod kitchen with the company's own custom built cabinetry. We also had granite countertops, glass tiles, maple flooring, the latest in energy efficient appliances, task and mood lighting, as well as beautiful new windows installed.

The job went very well. On time, right on the money. The crew was capable, friendly but not intrusive. The contractor was very easy to work with, a good listener, patient and had a lot of good ideas. He was great at letting me know how much any changes I considered would cost in time and money. I couldn't recommend them more highly.
Description of Work: Renovated my entire home with a beautiful new kitchen opening into a new dining room, a cathedral ceiling living room with new skylights, a gorgeous master bath addition along with new stairs, windows and refinished bedrooms. It was a total makeover, beautifully done at a very fair price.

Our second floor is Beautifully Transformed. The work is of the highest quality including custom cabinets, tile, and Office suite. They gave us extra details that other companies did not offer. Cole, The owner, was hands-on and made sure we were informed of every step in the process. The crew was respectful and professional. We felt very comfortable with them in our home. Overall, Great Management of a complex project. They finished within our Budget and on Time.

Response from RIZON DESIGN & BUILD, INC.
I, Cole the President of Rizon Design & Build, Inc., received a call from this person on my cell phone while I was driving, so with safety in mind I kindly asked her to call my office to coordinate a further discussion or meeting by leaving her telephone number with my Project Manager. The next day I asked my Project Manager, who has an advanced degree in business. whether this particular woman had called regarding her kitchen project. My manager said we did not receive any calls whatsoever from this person. I was disappointed as I truly enjoy designing and building kitchens. I assumed she chose another company. As is evident from our reviews, we take extraordinary care of our clients and prospective clients. Sincerely, Cole A. Black, President, Rizon Design & Build, Inc., Sudbury, MA 01776

Response from RIZON DESIGN & BUILD, INC.
I was hired by this condominium association to build a deck. The two people at the condo who were in charge disagreed on the design. I tried my best to please both, but they could not come to any type of compromise. This man ended up blaming me because he could not come to a resolution with the other condo member. This condo has called me recently to do more work for them following this incident. To criticize me is completely unjust.
