They were professional and responsive. The work was completed in one day. The crew was polite and cleaned up thoroughly. After completing the roof, the waste was neatly placed on the side of the house. As the truck was full, they asked if it could be retrieved within a couple of days. It was, and we were happy overall.

They came in the early morning and finished job in 4-5 hours. Overall my experience is good.

It wasn't a good match, so I ended up not hiring them. I thought we could probably wait a little bit longer before we replaced the roof. I also thought the company was good and I don't have any negative comments about them. They were prompt and professional.

This is the second time we have called O'Connell Roofing. They reflashed the right side of our chimney two years ago. They were courteous and professional. We recently had some serious water damage after two weeks of rain. I called James O'Connell on a Sunday evening. He answered the phone, listened to our problem, and arrived the next morning. He diagnosed the problem to be the left side of the chimney, used some caulking for a temporary fix, and returned a week later to do the repair work. While we wish we had reflashed the entire chimney two years ago (this was not suggested at the time), O'Connell Roofing was reliable and professional. We would recommend them.

.O'Connell came when he had indicated he would and did the small job without taking any payment! Try and find someone in this day and age who would do that. Problem solved.

They seemed very honest. There wasn't an attempt to try to imply that there were more issues with the roof than there were. The solution was simple, straightforward, and inexpensive. They were very knowledgeable people. We haven't had any issues with the roof. They were great in terms of getting back.

James came out to do an estimate on a problem with a gutter and ice forming. He was very generous with his time and explanation that nothing was wrong with the gutter. The only way to avoid problem would be to have no snow! I greatly appreciated his time and his lack of trying to sell something.

I cannot say enough good things about James O'Connell. We went through three incompetent roofers (three!) until he was recommended by the friend of a friend. Prior to finding James, the roofers not only cost a fortune (one was $3,500) but actually damaged our roof. We had water leaking in throughout the roof onto the walls and ceilings, creating huge yellow stains. James came in, assessed the issues, made repairs for $1,000, and since then (five years ago), we haven't had a single leak and no sign of any water damage. And there have been quite a few torrential downpours in the past five years. He now comes every spring to assess damage and replace slates as needed. This is normal maintenance on a slate roof as the slate can crack. He has also taken care of installing flashing and cleans out our gutters for a very reasonable price (it's on a third floor) every fall. He is incredibly competent, professional, and I have a strong sense that he is honest and has a strong sense of integrity.

James did the roof at our last house and did a superb job so we already knew he is trustworthy and does A+ work. We hired him again to do our new house and as before, he finished everything professionally and quick. When he started, he let me know that he didn't know whether or not the roof will need to be re-sheathed once he ripped up the old shingles. Our house was built in 1895 so it was very possible that this would have been a costly surprise. James's crew did a great job of ripping off the shingle without making a mess of our yard. We lucked out and the under sheathing was all in good working order. The new roof looks terrific and was done in great time. We recommend James to any of our friends or family because he does great work at honest prices, and is always courteous.

James and his team were great. The bid was competitive, and he didn't try to sell me anything unnecessary. For example, his initial view was that my house would need a complete plywood sheathing and I agreed to it, but once he stripped the existing roof he determined that the existing surface was in good shape, so advised against that expense. The work seemed to be high quality. Jame communicated the plan, his team was professional and seemed to be thorough, and cleanup was great. So far, so good with the roof itself.

We secured 4 quotes and O'Connell Roofing's estimate was very competative; we selected them because they were responsive to our questions and because they were able to adjust their schedule to meet ours. I called James to get an estimate to install gutters & downspouts to the front of our home. I called his company and got a call back within a day. He came to my house to look at the job and we had an estimate from him within a few days. He were satisfied with the price and called to hire him. We made arrangements to have him come out in a few weeks (when his current jobs were done) to do the job. He called me the week of to let me know he would drop off the gutters on one day and be out a few days later to do the job. His crew showed up on the day we expected. They were fast and efficient. James showed up during the install to check up on the job. He had concerns about where one of the downspouts would wash out to, and suggested an alternate path and wanted to confirm we were OK with the change (which we were). The gutters are up, look great, and we were very happy with our dealings with this company.

O'Connell roofing replaced slates on my roof which had been broken by a tree that fell on my garage. I called the day the tree fell on the roof. Even though Mr. O'Connell was on vacation, he received my call and was prepared to send one of his roofers to give me an estimate as soon as the tree was removed from the roof. I called him again when the roof was accessible and his roofer came the same day to give me an estimate. I hired the team and they came and completed the job the same week. The roofers were efficient and respectful and the job was well done.

he noted that the roof tiles did not need immediate repair, and discouraged replacing the gutters as non-urgent. his quote for the roof shingles and ridge vent were reasonable.as he predicted, i got through the winter fine, and will likely have him do the work this year.it is remarkable to find a contractor who does not attempt to up-sell, and is so honest that he acts in his own disinterest.

This was a tough job, tougher than James original thought it would be., given the amount of damage lurking beneath two layers of old asphalt shingles on a very steep double Victorian roof. Still, he toughed it out with the good humor and fortitude of a consummate professional. His men even came to work on a Sunday, (we had to shut down early, however, as a neighbor ratted us out!) Every aspect, from start to finish, which is to say from long discussions about the merits of different shingles to the final clean up, was handled with care and consideration. His crew was disciplined and eager to please. O'Connell was not the lowest estimate, but given the quality of his work, he is not at all over priced. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to work done on my house: O'Connell met my very high standards.

They were efficient and there were no surprises. The man who came out was very polite and soft spoken but seemed to do a good job. He did what he said he would do in the time he said he would do it. Their price was not the highest we had and they used high quality materials.

Although my interactions involved just an estimate, I was very comfortable dealing with James. He arrived promptly and our conversation was pleasant. He seemed to be a very straightforward and his estimate was consistent the the numbers provided by other roofing companies.

They did everything as promised and in a timely manner. They were on time and responded to phone calls promptly.

They were really good. They were really fast. So far, the roof has held up really well, and it looks really nice. I have no complaints.

I found O'Connell on Angie's List. They came, and the crew worked all day. They did an excellent job. I thought his pricing was good. The quality so far has been fine, and he cleaned up very nicely after he was finished. I found him late in the year, and he was able to complete the job before we really had any problems. They were right on time. He was a person that knew his work. I would absolutely use O'Connell again if I needed to.

We have used O'Connel to move/install downspouts on our house. Not only did he come and do a great job, but he looked at the way the were done and determined that they would look much better moved a couple of inches toward the outside of the house so they would be centered on the corner boards. He moved them where they should have been, after consulting me and didn't charge any more to move them than to simply We have also used him to install an attic fan. Similarly excellent experience. \ I intend to call him soon and see if he is willing to do some more miscellaneous small jobs for me.

Our roof experienced damage as a result of a late Fall 2011 storm, which resulted in leaking in our master bedroom. The issue was not a simple hole and missing shingle, making the leak a conundrum for several contractors. James was the first roofer to correctly diagnose the issue and did so on his first inspection - giving us great confidence in his work! James was unable to fit us into his schedule immediately, so put a temporary fix on our roof at no cost. The temporary fix worked perfectly, keeping upcoming rain storms out of our home. James completed the work on schedule. He was prompt, courteous, explained things in detail, and completed the work at the quoted price.

We had O'Connell come out to remove ice dams last year and he was very responsive and pleasant to deal with. Billing took a few months, but it was very reasonable. Based on this, we decided to have some preventive work done to address some leaking as a result of the ice dams. We agreed to the quote and the work began on the back of the house. After the work was completed, James told us the shingles were no longer available. He took the liberty of replacing our existing shingles with the new model which was much different in color, without a break in price. He tried to find surplus shingles at several locations for the front of the house where it was more noticeable. He didn't have any luck so we opted to leave the front alone. After a couple months I noticed there wasn't a slope to the gutter in the rear. I climbed a ladder and found a random 4 foot section that was level. I assumed this was the case for the remainder of the gutter and I called James to address this. He explained that the gutter had been raised 1/4" in the middle at the time of installation for an 18 foot run either way. He said that 4 foot test section was not indicative of the slope all the way across and that I needed an 18 foot level for this to be accurate. If a slope were present in the gutter, the level should indicate this at every point of consideration. After some research, the minimum suggested slope I found was 1/2" for 10 feet considering 5 reputable sources. He asked if there were standing water anywhere. It wasn't raining at the time but I didn't feel that was important. He suggested I put a hose in it, but the hoses were put away for the season and I didn't feel the need to climb a ladder with a pail of water to prove what I already know. A gutter needs to have a slope to it, no matter where you measure it. He said he would come by to check it during a rain. He didn't follow up after his visit. I called 2 days later to report that I found standing water in the gutter after climbing a ladder once again. He explained that he had been by and that he did not find standing water and proceeded to inform me that little puddles in the gutter didn't qualify. After some disagreement he agreed to send a crew out to raise the gutter. The install crew explained that some people don't care to see a slope in their gutter and he assumed that we felt that way. I explained to him that we assumed that the slope of the gutter in the back would match the front. I suggested he ask future customers to avoid misunderstanding and didn't pursue that any further. The following day James came out to follow up. I tried to explain why I was not pleased and he wouldn't let me finish my thought before defending himself. He explained that the gutter was raised 1/2-1 inch in the middle at the time of install which contradicts our first conversation on the subject where he mentions 1/4 inch. In any event, neither slope matches the convention which was a part of my research and we weren't asked how we would like it. I am livid that I have to write such a review and I hope that the level of detail provided in this review will give future customers a good look into his character.

Excellent. James and his crew showed up on schedule and completed the work on time. James planned the work around an incoming rain storm. So that the job was completed long before the expected rain showed up.
