This was a trivial welding job, and I was glad Lou agreed to take it on. He charged a nominal fee, and turned the job around in minutes. It was a small weld on a stand for keeping beers cold. Really can't say enough about Lou's openness to helping me out. And the quality of the work was very good.
Description of Work: Lou took care of a small welding failure on a piece I have. It needed the attention but it was so small I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find anybody to take on the task. But after finding Lou on Angie's List, we established in a few minutes that he would take on this (trivial) job. I was grateful to find someone to take it on at all. I learned, talking to Lou, that he also does structural steel and has a general contractor's license. I'd say if you need some steel work (he described replacing walls with huge steel headers for the contemporary purpose of "opening up a house"), I"d say it's hard to go wrong with Lou.

It is mid-October and I still do not have railings. Lou has become non responsive. He took a 50% deposit to create wrough iron hand rails on June 15, 2013 and I have yet to see the finished product. Until September, when I contacted Lou he would offer me excuses about why the project was behind, and then promise me that it would be done as soon as possible. After promising the railings would be in before mid-September, Lou stopped responding to my attempts to get ahold of him. We have sent him a demand letter certified mail asking for our deposit to be returned, but still, no response. Illness, personal issues, claims that the railings were stolen by a and quot;junkie, and quot; these were all excuses given to us by Lou. We are compassionate people and understanding to a point, but this game is now old. We have been and quot;promisedand quot; install dates that have long passed. We don't even want the railings installed anymore. We just want our $700 back. AVOID LOU AND HIS BUSINESS AT ALL COST...He only takes your money, provides excuses when he contacts you and he can't be taken at his word! Save yourself alot of hassel and find another firm that will actually send you a contact and provide the product as requested!
Description of Work: Lou came to our house in June to take measurements for railings for our new front steps. We agreed upon a price and that the project would be completed within 2-3 weeks. I gave him 50% of the cost as a deposit and was told he would contact me when the railings were ready and they could be installed.

Many years ago, the city did construction on my road and installed 2-inch thick (4 feet x 3 feet) metal barriers to protect the house from the equipment. The previous owner decided that he liked the barrier (for reasons that pass understanding) and told the city not to remove it. In the years since its installation, it has become a hulking, rusting eyesore sitting directly in front of my house. I wanted it gone. I contacted Lou about two weeks ago and we managed to find a day for him to come out and do the appraisal for removing it. He looked at it, fully explained what removing it would entail, including the process and products necessary for doing so. He quoted me $500 and explained the break down of that cost. On the appointed day, he and one of his associates arrived, went right to work, removed the barrier below grade so that no one could get hurt by sharp pointy edges, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. Given that they were working half in the street, they had to deal with several of the neighbors who were out dog-walking. They were polite and respectful and as unobtrusive as someone with a blowtorch can be. On the whole, a thoroughly positive experience.
Description of Work: Removed a sunken metal construction barrier from outside the front of my house.

A different welder was used by one of the other subs on the job but I would call Lou again without hesitation.
Description of Work: Lou was more than helpful and responded promptly to my initial email. Scheduling was no issue and he was very courteous and willing to help with what I needed.

I would NEVER use this company again! The company states that there is no job to big or to small. I was told it would take only 2 weeks to complete the job. after 2 weeks, the owner no longer took my calls to find the status of the job. I had to constantly call from different phones to trick him into answering the phone. After getting numerous excuses as to why the job was not completed, it was finally finished . . . . about 7 weeks after I dropped it off! After seeing the positive reviews for this business I was sure the job would be an easy one for them. Apparently my mailbox door must have thrown such a challenge at them, that they decided to just not work on it. Terrible!

Lou was completely professional from start to finish: returned my phone calls, called ahead when on his way and upon arrival. Made separate trip (long distance) to analyze the job and give an estimate, which he came in under. The support he installed was superior to what was there. He did an excellent job.
Description of Work: He repaired steel support for exterior stairs.

Lou was the first welder I called for this, because of his great ratings here. I was very encouraged by the phone conversation, and my wife and I drove up to Lou's shop with the broken part. Even though it was a very small job, Lou was incredibly responsive, and friendlier than even we are used to (and we come from the friendly Midwest!); he just comes across as a great person. We were in and out in 30 minutes, and our futon's good as new! Thanks to Lou.
Description of Work: Part of our IKEA futon had broken. Lou welded it back on and repainted it.

After corresponding over phone and email, Lou came out to repair our building's dumpster, but after inspecting it further (he had only seen pictures before) he was honest enough to tell us that it probably wouldn't be worth it to repair since it was in worse condition that it had seemed. I appreciate his honesty and would definitely hire him in the future for other work. He is good about answering his cell phone too.
Description of Work: Gave us an estimate of $450 to repair holes in our metal dumpster, but after further inspection did not feel right about doing the work since it was in worse shape than originally had thought.

I often pick my service providers based on the character of the provider and on their professionalism. On a Friday, after business hours, my husband's manual wheelchair broke. A titanium rod cracked and he was unable to move with any ease at all. The wheelchair company wouldn't be available until Monday, leaving my husband essentially stranded on a couch and immobile. I did a search for welders, knowing that finding one on a Friday evening at 6 was unlikely. Lucky for us, I found Lou and he immediately offered to help the following day. In anticipation of my arrival, he went to a welding supply store and bought a titanium rod in case he needed it. In his words, he "wanted to insure that the job got done right". He had other work scheduled that day but moved our task to the top of his list due to its urgency. He did a solid job and my husband is mobile again. We were only looking for a temporary fix that would allow my husband to move around the apartment but this could very well serve as a permanent fix, it's that good. I understand that the average person searching for a welder is looking for a larger job and I can see that Lou does that as well. His website shows really impressive iron work on railings and he works on site for larger jobs. I strongly urge you to seek Lou for a quote. This was first time I have ever needed a welder and in only that one search, I learned that it is hard to find someone who works with titanium. Lou does. He will work on an emergency basis and works on weekends. Check him out.
Description of Work: On an emergency basis, with less than 24 hours notice, Lou welded and straightened a titanium rod that had cracked on a wheelchair.
