Tom came within the hour, explained all my options (fix gas valve, replace 6-year-old heater with same size heater, or install a larger heater). He recommended fixing the valve since the heater still had some years of useful life in it, but I decided to go with a new heater because I HATE suddenly finding that my life is disrupted because I can't have a shower. I also HATE finding my basement full of water due to leaks from the water heater. Tom installed an A O Smith water heater (top brand) with a 10-year warranty, plus a drip pan and a water-activated shut-off valve to prevent basement flooding. The price may look expensive, but this was my choice with full explanation from Tom of what I was getting for the money. He was courteous, professional, and prompt. I thought he was great. Couldn't disagree more with the dissatisfied review listed under Plumbing.
Description of Work: I discovered my water heater was broken when I wasn't getting hot water. Most of the businesses recommended by Angie's list weren't answering the phone. I found Lanza Plumbing through excellent reviews on Yelp. The address and phone number given here is incorrect -- he has now moved to 1688 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02445-2159 (617) 739-5700 but it's the same person.

I'm now filing this report, months after the occurrence, to warn others. Mr. Lanza did the work and the problem was fixed the same day, but the pump cost less than he indicated and he took advantage of the fact that we had an emergency to overcharge us.
Description of Work: Our sump pump in the cellar broke and black water was seeping into the wall of our storage unit. I call Tony Lanza, as his name was on the pump and our water heaters. He responded right away and came over right away. At first, he quoted me a price of $1,300, indicating that the pump was very expensive ($600 or more). I told that even though this was an emergency this was too much money and that I couldn't give him the OK without consulting with neighbors/condo association. He then gave me second price of $975, which would include cheaper pump and he indicated that he didn't make any money off it -- and that he could get it all fixed right away. I told him to go ahead, as the water was basically raw sewage, standing and seeping into the wooden walls of our storage unit.

T Lanza came the first time, fixed the toilet & claimed he couldn't fix the hot water nozzle, but that he had fixed the leak in the shower & would turn down the water temp. That cost $300. He needed to come back b/c he did not, in fact, fix the leak in the shower, but actually made it worse. He came back the second time & this time did fix the shower leak. However, he changed out the faucet in the shower & a) didn't bother to put a screen in the faucet so now the water just shoots out everywhere: b) put the hot & cold water handles on backwards & c) told my fianc he could caulk a 1/2 inch hole all the way around the pipe that goes in to the floor from the bathtub, where the leak he made worse was pouring in to the ceiling of the apartment below, instead of doing it himself. Also, it turns out that the overflow drain he put in to the tub also leaks now when I take a bath. All this cost another $300 and let me add the hot water nozzle still floats up on its own. This guy was awful.
Description of Work: We've just moved into a new apartment, but there were some things that needed attending to. The landlady is in the hospital and her nieces who are taking care of things live in NJ and VA. They told us they'd recently used this plumber. The issues were a toilet that ran and didn't flush properly, water that came out scalding hot, a hot water nozzle in the shower that floated up to the limit of its own accord and leaking pipes when we showered.

I woke to a broken water heater. I called Tom at about 7:30 AM, he was at my door within two hours and the new water heater was replaced within two hours after that. He was prompt and professional and helped me haul the full wet dry vacuum bucket out of the basement a couple times as well. "I won't charge you extra for that", he said with a smile! I got his number off of my water heater. My upstairs neighbor (I'm in a 3-family condo) recently had her water heater replaced and he must have put a sticker with his contact information on my water heater. I am VERY glad he did!!
Description of Work: Replaced burst water heater with new model, closely resembling the quality and capacity of the old one. Removed broken water heater.
