very well despite one missed appointment window.
Description of Work: Kenny, the serviceman, came and checked out our broker refrigerator. He arrived on time and diagnosed the problem (broken fan)very quickly. He ordered a part and scheduled to return the next day to install it. The install went smoothly and he even put everything back into our freezer before he left. The next day we realized that the cover of the fan had come off and was broken. I called to scheduled them to come and replace it for the next day. The repairman did not come within the allotted time and I had to call to remind them of the appointment. That was frustrating, but the quality service outweighed my frustration.

When I called to arrange the repair, I talked to a real person who was willing to make an appointment right away, but I was in no hurry so I waited until after the Thanksgiving holiday. I was given a window from 9am to 11am for the technician to arrive and that is when he came. It was very convenient since I could then go to work in the afternoon. I was very impressed with the speed and efficiency of the whole process. I hated to spend the money, but that was the fault of the stove manufacturer (Kenmore) and not the repair company.
Description of Work: The oven temperature was not consistant. The friendly and polite technician quickly diagnosed a failing ignitor and he had a new one on his truck. He efficiently installed the new ignitor and that was that. He also took the time to show me the problem and explain the concept.

I've used this company in the past, and first visits are quick. I'm guessing the problem is that follow-up visits when the appliance breaks again - which are "covered" by the initial payment, are very low priority and are given back to the original guy sent out who may or may not be interested in doing it. My washing machine stopped working, got a next day visit from Bob who fixed a pressure hose. He warned me that that might not be the cause of the problem, but follow up visits were covered by my payment. The problem is that less than a month later it's broken again, and 10 days after my call I'm still getting strung along about fixing it. I called on a Sunday, Tina promised to check my account and order any parts Monday morning so it could maybe be fixed as early as Tuesday. Ha. I called Monday afternoon to see if we should schedule the repair, turns out no one had looked into the problem yet. Suffice it to say it is now Wednesday of the following week with me calling every other day, and it still isn't fixed and NO ONE has come to see how it should be fixed. First it took several days to track down Bob to see if he had any insights into what this new problem might be, then parts were ordered by Tina, then orders were canceled by Bob "to save you money" - really? I'm about to spend a second day at the laundromat with $30 worth of laundry and a screaming 9 month old. Now Bob will come out some day (they refuse to schedule yet) with a pressure hose (which he already replaced once and warned me the first time he visited might not be the problem) and no back up "expensive part" should the pressure hose fail to fix the problem. I asked Tina to find out how much the "expensive part" was, but surprise, surprise, no call back two days later and she "couldn't take" my call today. I guess I'll ask her again when I call tomorrow. and the next day. and the next day. If you use them, just know you'll get the runaround if your appliance breaks again. I won't be using them again because I f****** hate them.
Description of Work: I've had repeated issues with my washer, and have now had my original guy back (in a timely manner and with great results), so I wanted to revise this review. It's not his fault it keeps breaking (it's a new issue), and I've found the responsiveness these days to be much better - he even fixed my lopsided dishwasher, totally unprompted, when we were standing in the kitchen. So I'm bringing up the grades, but I'll leave my initial review below, because my experience last summer was really frustrating. Earlier review: I've used this company in the past, and first visits are quick. I called Boston Appliance at 1:51pm today (a Saturday of a holiday weekend). It's now 2:55 and my dryer is fixed. Need I say more, excellent service! I will say a little more though. When I called, the owner answered the phone, he took my information, and said a repairman would be out between 3-5pm that very day. To my pleasant surprise, Kenny, the repairman, called about 2:20 to say he was running early and was on his way. He arrived about 2:40 and, like I wrote above, diagnosed and fixed the issue in 15min. He even let me watch and learn how my dryer is put together. And even though he gave me a break on the price--he gave threw in a small part that my dryer needed for free--I did rate the price a "B" because I just think these kinds of services are overpriced in general. However, Kenny was great--friendly, super skilled, and knowledgeable. Hopefully, I won't need any major appliance repairs anytime soon, but if I do there's no doubt that I'm calling Boston Appliance.
Description of Work: Repairman fixed a broken gas clothes dryer. I did not know why the dryer wasn't drying. Kenny, serviceman who came, diagnosed the problem right away. It turned out that the dryer was firing up, but the drum wasn't turning because of a broken belt. He replaced the belt and voila! good as new. It took about 15 minutes.

I got an appointment for the soonest time I was available, and the repairman came as scheduled, checked my dryer, and explained what was needed. He worked efficiently at replacing the worn-out parts. I was happy with the price he charged. My dryer has been working fine ever since. I will definitely use the same service for all my future appliance repairs. The same repairman came last year to fix my washing machine. He did an excellent job and charged a fair price, so I called the same company for my dryer repairs this year. I figured that after two excellent repair visits I needed to write a review. The company deserves it.
Description of Work: The belt and the pulley needed to be replaced on my clothes dryer. The repairman put in new ones and tested the dryer to make sure it was working.

My Bosch dryer was making a horrendous grinding noise so I had these guys come out to do the repair. They were fantastic. They immediately diagnosed the problem and proceeded to disassemble the front of the dryer to remove the obstruction, which turned out to be a tiny screw that had fallen out of one of my pockets while drying...doh! Anyway, they fixed the problem in about half an hour and even removed a bunch of excess lint that had built up below the lint screen! The only reason I gave a B on punctuality is that they showed up about 10-15 minutes past the window of 11-1 that I was given. When they hadn't shown by 1pm, I had to call and inquire as to where the guy was. I was told he was 10 minutes away, but I feel like I should not have had to make that call. Overall they were great and I would definitely use them again.

I guess I did that above. I have no complaints at all. Only compliments
Description of Work: Garbage disposal would not turn off. Had to unplug. Called on Sunday and believe it or not got a call back about 6:30 that night but we were out. They left message and I called back on Mon. They said could do it that day. I was shocked and busy so they set it up for first call on the next day. Bob and Nicky showed up on time diagnosed the problem and said I needed a new switch since the old one was all gunked up after 10 years. Figured that would be another couple of days but Bob went to the truck and got the switch and put it in. With all this the cost was 136.70. That was about what I paid the last repair man Just to come look at my problem and spend two weeks getting parts etc. I would certainly use them again ! The young women on the phone was very pleasant

Lee came out the next day after I called, did a diagnosis and ordered a part. He installed the part a few days later, and even came back a third time at no charge to make sure that I could put my dryer back into the closet where I keep it, (I had to leave it out to have some electrical work done in the space behind the dryer). Now my dryer works so much better.

The technician arrived on time to take a look at why 2 burners on our stove were not working. After evaluating the issue he told us that it wasn't worth the repair and we should just get a new stove. He only charged us the basic fee for a service visit. I really appreciated his honesty and not charging us for a repair that was destined not to work.

Repair person called ahead to confirm appointment, arrived on time, and performed inspection related to complaint on appliance malfunction. The appliance was reset and worked correctly (and continues to do so) therefore no repair was required. He charged a basic fee ($45 was reasonable) for the visit, provided advice on next steps and options, including approximate costs if we needed to replace unit or fix motor in the future. Plus helpful and accurate advice on location of and also how to clean the filters on my brand/model of washing machine.

We'd searched the web for a stove repair service in the Boston area. Originally we hit on bostonappliancerepair.net, which has contrived to be listed several times in every Google search. They are NOT Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair. In spite of their claim to be locally owned, they're run out of California and hire freelancers in each city to make service calls and split the fee with headquarters. The guy who came out to our house was pleasant enough but clearly had only a superficial knowledge of stoves. He didn't know how to find the model number, couldn't identify the part needed, charged us $65, and we never saw him again. Then we called Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair. (On the web they're bostonappliance.biz.) The difference was night and day. They dove into the stove, had it completely apart in less than five minutes, found the model and serial numbers, located the malfunctioning parts, fixed one of them on the spot, and ordered replacements for the others. The following week they were back with a new part, and suddenly our burners would light again. One more part was needed to take care of the second oven. The office called us as soon as it came in and said the repairmen could be here at noon. They were, and they fixed the final problem in short order. These guys know their stuff.

The upper (refrigerator) section of our four-year-old Whirlpool refrigerator didn't seem as cold as usual, although the freezer (the bottom section) was fine. I turned the control knob up for the refrigerator section, but that didn't help. At that point I checked out Angie's List and was impressed by the number of favorable reports for Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair, Inc. I called on a Thursday morning and was told they could not come that day but could come the following morning. The technician showed up on schedule, figured out the problem and solution, had the right part with him, installed it, and the problem was fixed--all within a little over an hour.

I called on Monday and got an appointment for the only open slot I had on my calendar all week. It was just a two-hour slot so I didn't have to plan to surrender my whole morning or afternoon to waiting. The repairmen arrived during the time window and announced that they already knew how to fix it. About thirty minutes later, they were done. They cleaned up what they used and the dishwasher is running fine now. They were courteous and professional. What more could you ask for.

My late model refrigerator/ freezer stopped "cooling" suddenly on a very hot Friday night. After troubleshooting with the manual and on line, I called several repair shops, including the store that sold it to me, on Saturday morning. Boston & Cambridge stood out from the crowd. Not only was their basic trip cost and hourly rate, lower than anyone else, there was no surcharge for a weekend call. They were not able to come that day, but scheduled me for 11-1 the next day, Sunday. ( Others had offered me appointments 4 days to a week out). Tony was at my door 5 minutes before 11. He was done 45 minutes later. This is now my appliance repair shop of choice. Great service.

I called Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair after a tenant's dishwasher stopped running. I scheduled their first available appointment, which was about 4 days out. The technician arrived just after the 2-hour window, but had forgot to call in advance as requested (since I don't live at the property). Not a big deal, as I rushed over to meet him. The technician was very nice, and was able to diagnose the problem (needed a new motor) fairly quickly. He said at the time that the part would arrive within 1-2 days, and could likely be installed within a day of arrival. Based on that, I assumed a 3-4 days turnaround until installation. I initially debated whether or not to just replace the entire dishwasher, but ultimately opted to have the repair done. It took me 3 separate calls to actually be able to get a quote on the work, at which point I immediately ordered since the quote was fair. After a few days without hearing from the company, I started calling to check on status. Long story short, it has now been 6 days since ordering (9 since I asked for quote) and the part still hasn't arrived. I was just told the earliest it could be installed is 6 days from now. Needless to say, I cancelled the order. This is a very common Frigidaire dishwasher, so it didn't quite make sense as to why there would be such a lag. All it cost me in the end was the initial $50 service charge, but now I need to go with another company (who is installing it 2 days after my call). It is unfortunate, as I had a decent experience in the past with this company.

The guy came initially to look at the appliance and came this week to repair. We had to order the part and that was the gas slit. They seemed to have trouble with my phone number and I think that they must have lost it or something. They had difficulty in getting a hold with me initially. I had to call them back and they were waiting to order the part until they got my approval. The part was little on the pricy side so they wanted to make sure that I felt that it was worth spending money on the repair before having ordered it which I appreciated. It wasn’t an urgent need as well. I was reasonably satisfied. One of the reasons that I was kind of interested in trying them out was that I had an old wolf range and I wanted to see whether they would be able to handle that and after that interaction with them, I would consider in using them at my house.

I was given an 8am-10am window, and the serviceman arrived at 9:15. Gave me good advice on a dishwasher that is not cleaning dishes properly. They came very promptly the same day. They charged me for the visit. They said because of the kind of problem in the electronic board which was broken the machine could not be repaired. They said that the board will cost a lot and I might as well buy a new dish washer. He tested that the drainage and said that it was not that the draining pump was broken but it was not even getting activated. He spent time to diagnose what the problem was. He was nice to work with. He was clear and explained what the problem. I asked him for his advice to buy a new machine and he said that the machine had more modern flat panels and pushing buttons. He asked me to get a machine with a dial and that was good to know. That will help me a lot when I purchase the new one. He took a look at my oven as well. My oven works but it can?t tell the temperature. He said the oven is really good and said it was a risk to get the temperature problem fixed. He even gave me an estimate to get that fixed. I thought he was really good. He was very responsive, and he was here when he said he will be here.

The repairman arrived on time and was courteous and professional. He was clearly knowledgeable about issues with this particular washer, including a class action suit that was filed many years ago. He said he was willing to make the repair if we chose, but said the repair cost and the likelihood of future issues with this machine might justify a new machine instead.
