The experience was positive if not a bit expensive. We called Monday morning to have it checked out and they gave us an appointment for 11am that day. They were prompt, courteous and professional. The problem was diagnosed and resolved quickly. Though expensive, I would use them again.
Description of Work: We noticed over the weekend that our Sub Zero refrigerator was not cooling properly. They came and diagnosed the problem as a Freon leak, which they patched and then topped up the Freon and it has worked perfectly since (the appointment was 2 months ago).

We suspected that our dishwasher hadn't been installed properly, so we called Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair to diagnose it. We phoned on a Thursday morning and got a 3-hour appointment window for the next day. The scheduler advised us that the charge for the service call alone would be $69.00. Larry and Mike called to let me know when they were about half-an-hour away and were here within the promised time window. As we suspected, they discovered that the dishwasher hadn't been installed properly and, in addition, discovered an electrical issue that would have prevented it from working even if it had been installed properly. They told us we had the option of either calling in an electrician or having them fix the electrical problem right then and there for an estimated cost of $200.00. We asked them to take care of it. They ended up having to run a whole new electrical line for the dishwasher before installing it a task that took the better part of two hours, but the charge was just what they said it would be: $200.00. In addition, they cleared a clog that was keeping our garbage disposal from working. In the course of doing this, they gave us both maintenance advice and pointed out an issue with the disposal hose that might be making clogs more likely, suggesting that if the problem recurs we might want to replace the hose. They charged us $20 for this. Larry and Mike were extremely workmanlike and unobtrusive, as well as offering clear explanations and helpful advice. Both the dishwasher and the disposal are working perfectly now.
Description of Work: Fixed garbage disposal and diagnosed/fixed dishwasher installation issues.

They came within the hour. I can not say enough good things about this man. He was nice, prompt, did great work , and gave 1000%. He was also very personable and his price was reasonable. I give him pure accolades and I really feel that he went out of his way to go the extra mile. I highly recommend him to anybody.

All clothes coming out of our dryer started smelling strongly of chemicals (think burned rubber with a hint of lighter fluid). Concerned we might have a lint fire or that the drum belt was about to give, we called Boston & Cambridge Appliance based on AL reviews. They were able to come out the next day. They determined that the smell was neither lint nor a slipping drum belt, but instead was polyurethane fumes that had baked onto the heating element (the dryer is in the basement, and the week before, the people living on the first floor had had their floors sanded and re-sealed - stunk up the whole 3-story building). While they could have told us we needed major surgery on the dryer and we wouldn't have been the wiser, they instead only charged us for the service call and labor to take the dryer apart - and they vacuumed the lint out of its guts and the vent hose while they were at it.
Description of Work: Examined clothes dryer for source of burning smell. Cleaned lint out of drier mechanical parts.

We discovered that our dryer was running, but there was no heat. We called and got an appointment for the next day. Ken arrived within the time frame we were given, tested the dryer and discovered that the heat sensor was not working. He had the part in the truck, and it took him about 5 minutes to replace it. We have no idea how much a repair of this type costs, but it seems reasonable.

I called to arranged the service call on a Wednesday. My call was answered promptly and courteously. The service appointment was scheduled at my request for the following day. The price of the service call was quoted, but the hourly rate was not. Bob and son, Nick, arrived within the time range scheduled. They were courteous and knowledgeable. They immediately took apart the coin-op mechanism to troubleshoot it. They had the parts with them, completed the job and left no mess. They successfully completed the job in an hour. Previously, another company had sent 3 different service people on 3 different service calls and none of them were successful! I will use Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair again.

Our disposer stopped working; called on a Sunday and they offered to send someone out that day (!) at no extra charge. That didn't work for us, so we rescheduled. When Tony came, he quickly discovered that the disposer was irreparable, and he had a replacement in his truck. Replaced it and tested, no problem. Replacement model was 3/4HP while original was 1HP; I was a little worried but he said 3/4 was plenty and he was right. New unit is much quieter than old one as well. Surprisingly he called back later to say he was worried he hadn't checked the flange, and would we mind if he stopped back in to check it. Turned out all was well. Next day it stopped working, and he came back & showed us the reset switch which had tripped. Since then, all is well. Overall, extremely satisfied with their service.

The temperature in my refrigerator was not as low as it should have been. Tony from Boston and Cambridge Appliance was out the next day, within the time window suggested. He found that the fan at the rear of the freezer section had burned out, so that air wasn't circulating through the refrigerator section, and he replaced it with the one fan he had in his truck at the time. He worked quickly and had a great sense of humor. I called a few days later because the fan sounded like it was rubbing against the plastic shield and I was worried about the motor burning out again. He came back a few days later with the exact part for that refrigerator model and put the new motor in at no extra charge.

Two men arrived at my home, one introduced himself as Bob. Immediately began working on fridge, defrosting with a dryer the frost that had built up. Diagnosed the problem and installed a new defrost timer.
Description of Work: Replaced defrost timer in refrigerator. Took about half an hour. Came on time. Left me with a beautiful working fridge. Actually came back the next day free of charge when I had another question about the operation of the fridge. No complaints.

Called to ask for help because Maytag dryer was not working. Dryer is very old but felt it was worth the while to identify if it could be repaired reasonably (late 1980s vintage). Received quick response. Arrived on date and time that visit was scheduled. Checked out problem, explained it and gave quote. Recall it had something to do with dryer's "ignition". Did and completed work efficiently and effectively. Was professional. Now dryer works so it had been nice to not have to buy one for now!

I called and they gave me an appointment. First thing the next day, the repair man showed up, 1 hour into the 2 hour window, he was very nice. He identified the problem right away, quoted the price and explained my options. He completed the work on the spot, without having to "order a part". It took about a half hour and he cleaned up when he was done. It was painless.

My refrigerator had not been working for almost three weeks. The part needed was on backorder from the manufacturer for more than one month and they couldn't help me despite my calls to the supervisor. I took matters into my own hands and located the part online and had it shipped overnight. I checked Angie's List and called Boston Appliance Repair. What a pleasure! The lovely woman on the phone took the information and said that a repairman would be out the next morning. Kenny arrived with a big smile and friendly attitude! He fixed the fridge in a flash and explained and showed me everything he did. I will definitely use them again and have already scheduled an appointment for them to replace the glass in my oven door.

He was pleasant and efficient and implied that he was charging me less than he should because the visit was so fast. But then 5 weeks later the same problem occurred. I asked them to come out, and he came back to fix it when I wasn't there (a tenant let him in). Then I got a bill for $86 more, which surprised me. I thought that I would at least get a break because the first visit hadn't been sufficient. But not even a polite apology that it hadn't stayed fixed. It may be just that that particular problem is likely to occur again, but he didn't warn me. Otherwise I could have considered replacing the stove instead of paying for the 'fix'.

Not well. Dishwasher continued to leak. Another repairman came and didn't see the leak. Told me if it leaked again to stop the cycle and call immediately. I did. He came again but couldn't find the leak. (He did not remove the front panel as the first man did). Said if it leaked again to call a Bosch specialist. Tonight the water was pouring out of it. Four visits and the dishwasher still leaks.
Description of Work: My Bosch dishwasher was leaking. Called and a repairman came when he was supposed to. He took the panel off and watched as the dishwasher overflowed. Said it was a faulty fill valve and ordered a new one. Three days later he came and replaced it.

Very good! Tony who was the serviceman came right in, diagnosed the problem quickly (busted impeller), was friendly, repaired the problem quickly, explained what he had done and that was it. He also gave me some pointers on how to keep the machine running for longer (turn the spin cycle down to prolong the life of the motor) and tried to tighten our kitchen faucet for us. Wonderful service!

Work went very well. The women on the phone was very knowledgeable, was able to schedule an appointment the same day and gave an accurate estimate for the work. The technician showed up prior to the scheduled time which was great. He was able to diagnose the problem right away (sensor/thermostat inside the oven) and was able to replace the part. All in told it took about 45 minutes. Very satisfied and would call them again
Description of Work: Our gas range had been acting up over the last several months. The service tech, Steven, was running late, so Boston Appliance called to let me know he would be there shortly, which I appreciated. He assessed the dishwasher and said that it wasn't a bad idea to get a new one. When I asked if there was any way to salvage what we had for the time being, he said that he would see what could be done. An hour and a half later, Steven had the dishwasher up and running better than ever before. He had to get creative with some aspects of fixing the unit, using some trial and error. We were extremely pleased and the price could not be beat, especially since we were considering buying a new washer! This is our second time calling Boston Appliance, and will continue to use them for all our household appliance needs.
Description of Work: A very used dishwasher was having problems functioning properly, although did an adequate job. We were considering buying a new one, but wanted to know if this was worth fixing. Of course, we would rather not buy a new dishwasher, but were prepared to if necessary.

Unlike so many companies, the person who took my call was extremely pleasant, friendly, and tried hard to schedule the job at the height of the holidays. She made a great first impression. TBone, the repair man who came over, was equally friendly and professional, and even arrived a few minutes early. Again unlike so many repair people, he explained what the problem was, kept me fully informed on what he was doing, worked to repair rather than replace my water inlet valve, advised me that the repair might not be permanent because the problem was caused by mineral deposits in my water, and put a good plan in place to deal with the situation should it recur. He did a great job. From now on I'll use Boston Appliance for all of my appliance repairs.

The day of my appointment followed a big snowstorm. I received a call asking if the repair person could come a little later since the trucks had to be plowed out. Mike came twenty minutes after the original time. He was courteous, friendly, and professional. He worked very efficiently finding that the inlet valve needed replacing. This faulty inlet valve was preventing sufficient water entering the dishwasher and preventing the water from heating. He worked about 40 minutes , cleaned up after himself and left. The valve was $57 of the total cost. I am very pleased with the total experience.
