The window came in and it was the wrong size, they took it back and said he would return with a replacement. He will not return phone calls or letters. I gave give 150.00 before work had started and he will not get back to me. Window came in about a month later and installer came here with it only to find window was wrong size. He returnned window to Murphy. About June 1, I called Murphy asking where replacement was. He said office had forgotten to order it and that he's take care of it. Since then he has not returned phone calls or responded in any fashion. Finally I wrote him a letter July 24, 2013 stating that since he was apparently not interested in honoring his contract, I would like my deposit of $150 back ASAP so that I could proceed with another dealer. As of today 8/12/13 still no response. Too bad, because we had done much business with this guy before and no problems. The installer said that ours was not the only window that Murphy had wrong specificactions for! Update: August 19, 2013 Mr. Murphy showed up at our house and apologized for the above, gave me a check for the full deposit of $150 and said he had been ill and that's why everything had been delayed. It seems a simple phone call by someone in the business or family early on would have made all the difference and I certainly would not have filed a complaint against him.
Description of Work: They came to replace my window.

On 6/1/2013, called to inquiry on pricing and availability. Mr Murphy called back promptly and provided a quote via phone on the 5 awnings which needed to be restrung. The quote was a reasonable quote. Also provided an approximate date to come and complete the services. During the week commencing June 2, 2013, we did not see, hear, or receive some type of indication or notification that someone was at our home. On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 5:30pm, I left Mr. Murphy a message letting him know that we have not seen or heard from him and offered to reschedule. We did not receive a call back on Wednesday, evening or Thursday. On Friday, June 7, 2013, Mr Murphy left a voice mail message at my home which was curt. I returned the call on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 1:50pm, letting him know since we did not hear, or see from him we would be moving on and looking for another company to care for our awnings. Mr. Murphy called my home three times and my husband's cell phone once. He indicated to my husband that he was away and an employee of his company was at my home looking at the 6 awnings (mind you only 5 needed repaired) and that his employee did not have a ladder to take care of the awning on the second floor, so none of the awnings on the first floor were completed. The way Mr. Murphy handled the situation by excessively calling after the decision was made was inappropriate End result, consumers are reasonable to work with, but when details are not paid attention too and the consumer is treated as a bother, and there is no forth right action from the provider, one must move on.

When I called E.J. Murphy company, someone was at my home the very next day to review the situation and provide a quote to solve the assorted problems. Due to 'hurricane Sandy' ... work was postponed by one week, and I agreed to that. However, the work was completed the same week as the storm and I am totally satisfied that it is completed to my satisfaction. Aluminum awnings have mechanical components that must work smoothly at all times, and E.J. Murphy Co. was very sensitive to that. Some of the 'issues' were the result of rolling up the awnings for the winter, and any problems would not have been obvious until that was done. When I realized the shortfalls, I opted to call them instead of the general contractor, even if the result was an added cost to me.
Description of Work: Awnings which had been installed by a general contractor posed some problems and I felt the general contractor was somewhat out of his depth in dealing with the matter. I had E.J.Murphy install awnings for me previously and I was very happy with their work. However, due to storm damage as the result of the microburst in July 2011, the awnings had to be replaced. The problems which resulted were clearly the inexperience of the installers used by the general contractor. Rather than going back to the general contractor, I contacted E.J. Murphy. The result was an immediate reply, complete review of what had been done, and all minor adjustments were made in a very professional and timely manner. I highly recommend this company not only on the strength of an original installation, but on high quality service.

The shades were not bad. The awnings were a disaster. My husband wanted to give him a chance since the shades went well. He was fine with the ordering but the installation did not go well. I let him know that he needed to bring professionals for hanging the awnings; he brought himself and his brother. He did this while I was away on the weekend, and my husband said the two were fist fighting in the front yard. When I came back, my husband let me know about the problems with installation. I had given him half of the payment and the awnings were measured for the house; we could not back out. After three weeks, he would come in the evening which was very hot and I sometimes had to hold up the awnings while he finished the installation process. I had never heard of an awning to be roped in the front. In the end, when he left, he said that was the best he could do. I would never recommend him to anyone. We had to take them down for the winter and now we need someone else to hang them this spring. The screws were coming out of the brick when we took them out.
Description of Work: They put up awnings as well as shades before.
