Phils Remodeling

We found Phil on craigslist, of all places. I was looking for a perfectionist painter. His ad asked: "Does your painter: properly cover your floors? caulk gaps around window, door and baseboard trim? repair imperfections in the drywall before painting? sand walls and trim? use a vacuume connector to suck the fine dust up while sanding that would other wise get all over your home? neatly cut in walls around trim and ceilings? use quality materials? can he provide you with an insurance binder? is he licensed? can he supply references? will he give you a free itemized typed estimate for all work and explain how many coats his price is for or will he waite till the end and then tell you the cost is more because it didin't cover in one coat? Will he show up when he says and stay till he finishes? does he leave your house a mess at the end of each day? will he steam mop or vacuume your floors after he is done?" Big promises, right? HE DELIVERED ON *ALL* OF THESE. Every. Single. One. We consider ourselves wildly fortunate to have found Phil. For one thing, our house looks fantastic, like something out of a Sherwin Williams ad. But just as importantly, Phil was conscientious, meticulous, respectful, reliable...I could go on and on. We basically gave him the keys to our not-yet-occupied house and trusted him to show up every day for several weeks and do his job without us looking over his shoulder. When we would occasionally drop by to see the progress, Phil (along with his equally fabulous father and another helper) was always there, doing exactly what he'd said he'd be doing. The estimate he gave us was pages and pages long, extremely detailed and broken down into various individual projects (ie painting the window sills, painting the closets, installing trim, etc.) so that if there were components we wanted to wait on or save money by skipping, we could. (At first we did that, but then the rest of the house looked so darn good that we ended up doing everything and spending more, but it was totally worth it). We were responsible for buying the paint (another way you can save money if you so desire- we went with the good stuff, but we knew exactly what we were spending and didn't have to trust that our contractor was charging us premium prices for sub-par paint) but Phil provided all other materials. Any time Phil had a question, he would call or email to check in before proceeding and work on another task in the meantime. He was so responsive- we always had a call or email back within hours if we had a question, or if we asked for an estimate on another project. He delivered exactly what he promised. We are so pleased, by both our experience working with Phil and by the work he did on our house. I could not more enthusiastically recommend him to anyone looking for a painter.
