The project started in November of 2012 and was wrapped up in April of 2013. The work was outstanding! I was in Florida while he was working on the project though he routinely sent me photos of his progress, which I really appreciated. The work was finished to my complete satisfaction and I couldn't be happier with the addition. I went with Mike because I had him out about 10 years prior to do some major carpentry work for me and I knew that his work would be top notch. He is very professional and absolutely knows his work.
Description of Work: He created an addition for my home.

Painting was a total disaster. Would use him again as a carpenter, but not for any painting.
Description of Work: Excellent job with the carpentry. Gave me ahard time about hanging the hardware for the curtains, but finally did it. Also painted.

I am surprised to find this negative review. At the completion of the project the member expressed great satisfaction with the quality of the workmanship. There was a problem with the curtain hardware, the parts she supplied were not compatible with her intended finish product and as a general rule I never install curtains in the first place, this is a specialty trade. Nonetheless, I modified the parts and adapted them to her request, at no additional cost to her. As for the painting, she complained stating that I had mixed up the colors. This is untrue, to prove it, I reapplied the paint in her presence, only then did she concede that I had applied them as per instructions, she just did not like the finish paint scheme in areas that the sun shined directly on as it caused a contrast. I offered to redo at no cost, but she declined.

Final product was of good quality. Project was started in late fall. Contractor did demo work then added a dormer. Contrator did not weatherpoof work, so there was rain damage. A worker feel through the ceiling of a lower floor bedroom that was not to be affected by construction. The contractor provided the wrong roof color. He guessed at the color despite the fact that we had told him the correct color based on samples he provided. After the roof was done there were elaks arounbd the chimney. . Project ended up costing 15% more than amount in contract.
Description of Work: Performed renovation of house, added bathroom, contracted to provide total general contracting for renovation of upstairs, adding space, adding new sunroom downstairs

Response from Michael Binnall Carpentry
The member claims I worked "short days". I do not know how he came to this conclusion since he was in Vermont as the job progressed, Perhaps he is referring to his demand that I work on Saturdays, which I refused as I have three children to raise. In regards to his statement that the work should have been completed 45 days earlier, this is untrue. Before we entered into a contract I asked him if he had a deadline for a completion date. He stated it was June 15th. Not until the work was underway did he inform me that he actually wanted an earlier completion date. Nonetheless, I completed all work four weeks early, including the many additional requests for work he had planned to do himself, such as tiling, painting, etc. He further states that there was water damage. This is true. During a storm with 80 plus m.p.h. winds and rain, we suffered a minor leak when the corner of a tarp blew open. The damage was small and repaired at no cost to him. He also states that a worker fell through a ceiling. This is also untrue, a small area of sheetrock was cracked from a misstep, again, repaired to new condition at no cost to Mr. Holcomb. He further states the roof color was incorrect, this is not true, I do not know how he comes to this conclusion, he must be satisfied with it though as he paid the invoice with no complaints to me. He also claims there were leaks around the chimney, again, not true, the 50 plus y.o. chimney was cracked at the top with many bricks missing and falling off. He wrongly assumed this was a roofing problem, but when the chimney was rebuilt, no more leaking occured. THe additonal 15% extra charges were all due due Mr. Holcombs request for additonal work. There were no unforeseen extra charges involved. He states I had a difficult time with payments, this is true, he did not pay as per the contract outlined and money is still due. His inference that I can not be trusted seems to be more of a character asssualt than a legitimate complaint.
