Mr. Neary came down very shortly after my mother called him and inspected the stairs on the side of the house. He made honest recommendations and an agreement to getting the work done to make them safe for her to use. He came back a few days later with all materials and worked continuously to get them done even with the rain that arrived later. He worked consistently and got the job done perfectly. The finished work was fabulous and exactly what she needed. He even installed an extra, and very sturdy, rail against the house, too.....something my mother never would have thought of for her to safely use the stairs. Mr. Neary also hauled away all debris and cleaned up everything spotless. VERY pleased with the entire experience! This is one very rare true professional and very caring carpenter who I would recommend to anyone needing any type of carpentry at its BEST, not to forget to mention that he has a wonderful personality and will work to your satisfaction! Would also like to mention that finding a carpenter that returns calls promptly and will do his best to get that quality work done in a reasonable amount of time is a rarity these days. This man goes above and beyond on his job and we recommend him in a heartbeat! (So glad he is on Angie's List where we found him, too!)

Mr. Neary is a pleasure to work with and does excellent work with attention to details. This was not an easy job as installation of new doors in an old building can be tricky. He also worked on weekends when facility was not busy with children and activities. We will be using Mr. Neary for some additional remodeling of baths, kitchen and cabinet work. He Is a pleasure to work with. His quotes were on target and less than others. His flexibility also great.
Description of Work: Installed exterior fire doors with hardware in non-profit facility. Excellent work. Also replaced clapboard arround doors. Visited several times to review work and to make sure doors were working properly. Made adjustments when needed and very promptly.

We had a great experience with Bill! Everything was done quickly and was reasonably priced. I was especially impressed at his work ethic - he showed up at 7 every morning and didn't quit until 7 in the evening, and was therefore able to finish a fairly big job in only a week. We had been putting off having this work done, partially due to the expense, but also because we thought it would be a huge pain that would drag on for weeks - and I'm thrilled that that wasn't the case at all. We definitely plan to use Bill in the future for more updates to our house - highly recommend!
Description of Work: Replaced wood trim around garage doors, windows, and eaves; replaced rotting window sills and one entire double window. Constructed a new porch step and installed new gutters.

Mr. Neary arrived early in the morning and completed the job very quickly. He was friendly and polite but very focused and professional! The prep, cutting was done in the yard and there were no signs of sawing or any mess left at the end of the job. The steps were finished nicely, no rough edges and I was more than pleased with the final product!

Bill was absolutely a pleasure to work with. We had an extremely aggressive timeline to finish all the work outlined and I must say he was the only contractor that was up for the challenge (I can attest to the fact that some of the 'highly rated' contractors on Angie's List were a huge disappointment as one clearly did not have the confidence to complete the job in the time required and the other tried to take advantage us by quoting a ridiculous price which he was not willing to explain). From the minute we met Bill, he was willing to hear us out and made some very valuable suggestions along the way. He is great at communicating progress throughout the project and made us feel at ease while we were out of town for a week by keeping us in the loop. The final product was more than we expected and we have Bill and his team to thank for that. I would recommend Bill to anyone who wants an honest, hardworking, reasonable, and highly competent contractor. We look forward to working with Bill in the future.

Bill was wonderfully responsive, coming out same-day to give me an estimate, and doing the job in the time he said he would. Since it was a dreadful February, it was important to us to have the broken window swapped out quickly, and he went out of his way to help us out. He handled all the details of the window purchase, ultimately giving us a better window than we had had originally. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Replaced a single insulated window in our dining room. The frame had been broken as well, so required doing a bit of repair work to the window frame as well as replacing the window itself.

Bill was highly receptive from the time I called him for a quote this week. He worked around my schedule to give a quote, and arrived on time. He followed up when he said he would and my wife and I decided to move forward with Mr. Neary. My schedule has not been very flexible and he came at my first available date (this morning) to start/complet the work. Not only did he do great work in a timely manner, but he also cleaned up the entire site. His prices are competitive, his crafstmanship is top quality, and he is a professional. Would definitely recommend him to others.

We had originally given him our " bucket" list, and he had given us estimates on various jobs. We are hiring him back to do some of the other jobs because we were so pleased with what he did on the initial job.
Description of Work: William Neary always arrived promptly, and was very professional and pleasant. He came to originally strip away a rotten out corner at back of house, install new pst/sill, insulation, plywood siding and plaster work on inside, but when he started the work, he saw that there was a lot more damage than any of us knew. He ended up doing the work planned plus replacing 4 windows and a second side of the room he was working on. He wrote up a new reasonable price for the additional work, and was done with everything within five days.

Mr Neary arrived on time (on a Sunday no less!) and quickly assessed the situation. Instead of buying a whole new window, he suggested simply replacing the broken glass with plexiglass. He also noticed that the opening where the gas pipes left the unit was not protected, and suggested some blown-in insulation. He got the estimate to me the next day, but it took a bit of a prodding before I was able to schedule a time for him to come perform the service (approx 2 weeks after the initial estimate; to be fair, the unruly weather was probably wreaking havoc w/ trying to schedule things). The work he did appears to be great.
Description of Work: A window in my basement (1/2 window, 1/2 dryer vent egress) was cracked, and the caulking surrounding the window frame had dried out and the window was no longer sitting secure in its surroundings.

I thought he would get back to me so I put off doing any of the work. The winter got bad, and I have to wait until spring for me to do construction. He put me really in a bad decision. All he needed to do before is call me back and give his honest reason instead of making me wait so that I could have called somebody else.
Description of Work: Neary Construction came to me and never called me or emailed me back. He was supposed to install the storm door screen and ceiling windows for the insulation of the second window, and he was also supposed to do some other carpentry. Unfortunately, nothing happened in the end.

Overall Bill was great. He got back to us quickly (while on vacation), was very flexible in finding a time to come out and visit us and made several trips at no charge. Likewise, the work was done very quickly and he always completed everything by the when he said he would. And finally, he never tried to upsell us and even determined that some of the work we unnecessary. Generally a very professional and easy to work with guy -- would recommend to anyone.
Description of Work: Bill replaced a beam in our basement, put in some joists hangers and redid our bulkhead
Bill came our and gave us a quote for the work we wanted done. Which started with just installing the exterior door and replacing the rotten wodden siding near it. Once we agreed on having him do the work he told me he would be out in a week to do the work. He sent me a message two days before letting me know the day and time of his arrival. He installed the door anr replaced the siding easily and once compelted you could not even tell he had done anything. The trim around the door and all of the boards matched the rest of the house. He installed the appropriate drip edge over the door to ensure that we would not have the same problem again. While he was out he gave me a quote on fixing the gutters and he came back and replaced them as discussed. When he was done, the new gutters looked better than the original. After installation he stopped over on the first day it rained to check on the gutters to see if there were any issues and how they handled the water. He felt that he needed to add an additional piece of flashing on the roof to and came out and installed that as well. Bill does quality work and you can see he takes pride in what he does. He keeps the work site neat and clean and when he left there was no sign that he had even been there other than the neat work he left behind. His prices are fair and the quality of the work is top notch.
Description of Work: Bill came out and gave us an estimate for the following work replacing an exterior door, replacing some exterior wooden siding, replace gutters that would overflow when ever we got more than a light rain.

The trims of our side entry door and one piece of the outside siding of our family were rotten due to water. Bill first came to do an evaluation and provided an estimate of the costs. He was very good at explaining the work that needs to be done and provided two options of material to be used, one is wood and the other is synthetic plastic. The latter would resist future water-related erosion. We went with the plastic material. Bill then came at about one week later and performed the work as needed. He did a great job and cleaned away all the trash. We are very happy with the quality of his work. The price he charged is also very reasonable given the quality of the work. We would definitely use him again for future work.

Overall, the job came out very nicely. Since the job did not require access to the inside of our home, there was no need for either of us to be home during installation. The final product was very professionally produced, and both work areas were cleaned very thoroughly. I did contact Bill after construction and he was very helpful. After construction, I was impressed by BIll's patience. Much was happening in our family at the time and I did not send out payment as quickly as I usually do, but Bill was very patient without being rude or annoying, and I thank him for that. I know that I will have additional need of a handyman, and I am confident that Bill Neary has the experience and depth of knowledge to handle most jobs. For this reason, I would probably hire him again in the future if the need arises.
Description of Work: Replaced trim and facia around garage door, and built a secure-able hatch door for a storage space under our sunroom. Hatch was made with plastic-wood to avoid the need for replacement for quite some time. Because the trim was partially protected from the weather, and because he installed some much needed flashing between the trim and the paved driveway, we decided to use rimed pine. I was somewhat surprised at the price quoted to paint, so we did the painting ourselves.

Billy was prompt and personable. The things that were exceptional about him were his willingness to work with me and his ability to fit me into his schedule so as to get the job done before the weather turned. The only things that keep me from giving him across the board flying colors are that the price was a bit surprising given the time invested, and that given the price, there were little things about the job that were disappointing, along the lines of attention to detail: leaving a couple of spots unpainted, leaving the sealant around the columns in a way that was a little sloppy rather than having done a detailed job cleaning it up as if it were a finished piece of work. It was a rainy morning and I can understand they wanted to get out of there, but it would have been nice to have the work double checked. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: They reinstalled six columns that I had removed from my front porch for deleading and refinishing reinstalled. They cut, primed and reinstalled new cap pieces for on top of the columns (the old ones had rotted). They did some additional work with the columns to aid in weatherproofing (painting the insides, and creating a seal upon installation.

We got off to a rough start because I'm not sure what Mr. Neary knew what he was getting into by listing an Angie's List Big Deal. Eventually, we worked through that. Bill came out and did an estimate, and then came out, when scheduled, to do the work, plus some additional work that we had identified in the meantime. The work involved replacing some exterior siding and trim that were rotting out, as well as a very rotten exterior window sill (my apologies if I am butchering terminology). Bill's work on these items was completed efficiently, and the quality appears to be very high. So, despite our rocky start, we're quite pleased with Bill's work.

After his rediculous quote I went elsewhere.
Description of Work: I purchased $200 of service for $100 for a very small job replacing a little siding where a new roof joined the house and three small pieces of molding for a window. Mr. Neary came out and gave me a quote of $485.00. I found someone else that did the job for $100! The advertisement was deceptive because it made you feel you were buying 2 hours of service.

Member, I'm very sorry that you felt the Angie's advertisement to be deceptive. I typically see ratings only from those whom I have actually completed a job for. Neary Costruction has never claimed to have the lowest prices but guarantees 100% customer satisfaction. Our builders are licensed professionals that stand behind the highest quality of workmanship.I can only be thankful that the only negative review on Angies list came from someone that I have never done work for. Fantastic. I do not live at the property & he was there before me!!!!!! He showed up with everything he needed. Things went so well, I asked him to do EXTRA work and it was VERY reasonable. He asked me what I thought the extra should cost, some electrical work, I told him & he told me that was too much! Super honest!
Description of Work: Re-worked 3 closet doors, including 1 install, installed some lights, kitchen faucet & bathroom faucet. Every time he came by, he was on time. Mr. Billy is fast and reliable. He has done several projects and has not let me down. I would recommend him to a friend.
Bill was quick to reply to my initial call. I called him several weeks in advance of us closing on a house as I knew we'd be on a tight schedule. I got on his calendar and as the time neared we re-connected to confirm the initial meeting time. He was prompt in showing up and we did the initial walk through of projects. I noticed he didn't bring a note pad to take notes, but guess what? He doesn't need it!!! We had about a 40 minute conversation on the work that would be completed and while I had my doubts, he sent me a two page detailed proposal later that same evening, about every detail we had discussed. Okay, now I am impressed. We scheduled the work and on that day, he and his assistant showed just prior to the agreed upon time. They prioritized the interior projects so that we could move in, in a timely fashion, but in reality, they were done with all work prior to our move date. The work progressed steadily and Bill was a great communicator on what had been completed, what was going to happen next, when they'd be there, etc. Both by phone and email, Bill was very responsive, which is great as a homeowner. It was nice to get an update at the end of the day on what had transpired. During the project , Bill did he best to keep costs contained while doing the job in a quality manner. Some additional work had to be done when more rotting trim was discovered upon closer inspection of the house. He also discovered some termites that had not been detected during the inspection. Bill was able to do this additional work quite easily with no impact to the time line. In fact for much of the extra work, he only charged for materials (no labor), which was much appreciated. If you want a skilled professional who has credibility (and can therefore get them on-site) with his sub-contractors, a good aesthetic eye, excellent communicator, and fair pricing, Bill Neary is your guy! He's very easy to work with and has lots of interesting stories to tell! You can put your trust in Neary Construction.
Description of Work: Three projects in total: 1. Construction of Partition wall with electrical outlets and moved switches, door, etc. 2. Addition of balusters and railing to stairwell 3. Replacement of exterior trim that was rotted: Fascia board, water table, rake board, and post wraps, window trim, etc. Replacement material was composite to avoid future issues with rot.
