Excellent! Called and requested an estimate and had one within 24 hours. Very competitive price and much better selection of railings than others. I wanted a custom job and therefore visited the shop in Somerville. After a short consultation, I chose the style railings I wanted. They were fabricated and installed less than 2 weeks later. I would definitely choose them to do work again.

Elio and crew were quick to start and finish the task, thorough, knowledgeable, and pleasant. They have mastered their craft and treat their clients well.

Excellent. The owner was very friendly courteous and professional. He presented an exceptional price especially in comparison to the 4 other estimates I had received. He was considerably less expensive, but more importantly did an exceptional job. He explained the importance of not using salt during the winter and how to maintain the railings for a long time. He had us also come out to his shop to take a look at his inventory and we got a chance to see his men at work. They started in on the day the stated and honored all the terms of their contract. My husband and I could not be more pleased with the work that they did.

Elio and his team are great. Elio returned my calls promptly, arrived to estimate the job the day and hour when he said he would arrive, gave a reasonable estimate, was reachable by phone and email to discuss details (I made slight changes to the specs and he did not ask to change the price), and then did the install within under the allotted three weeks of my placing the order. (That's not trivial because wrought iron railings need to be hand cut and welded for each job.) His crew that did the install was polite, neat, and obviously took pride in their work. The end result is gorgeous, and the price quite fair. It's rare to find a skilled craftsperson who is also responsive and timely. Usually, you are hunting them with a pair of binoculars and a big net. So, I'm delighted with Somerville Ornamental Iron Works.

The craftsmanship was very fine. They were measured and brought back completely made and ready to be installed. Beautiful. Two men installed them. In no time they were installed. The only complaint was that the plugs that were drilled out for the railings to be put in, were left all around the perimeter of the stairway. I cleaned them up. The railings and workmanship were very fine. Price was competitive and a senior discount was applied as well. I am thankful for that. The owner himself came to measure and estimate the job. He was a fine man with a interesting history of his company and journey.

The owner, Elio, came to the property and gave an estimate. He was very professional and knowledgeable. | |I am not going to have the work done at this time. If and when I have the work done, I will certainly have Somerville Ornamental Iron Works do the work because they have been in the business many years and were very knowledgeable.

It went very well. I was impressed with Elio LoRusso, who has taken over the business from his father. He was professional in all aspects. When I left a message that we were interested in his services, he came to the house and looked at the job. I felt that his quote was very reasonable. We wanted to see the material for the new railing, so he was open to my wife and I visiting his workshop. His men installed the new railing and it is secure and beautiful. We are very pleased with his company.

It went well from beginning to end. The estimate appointment was punctual, and the price that we were given was about $400 lower than a competitive bid we had received. We agreed on a date that the installation would be done, and they were there on time and did a perfect job of installing the railings. They could not look better. I would recommend them without hesitation.

An estimate was scheduled--someone came out and never provided an estimate and did not respond to phone calls over the past few weeks.

Excellent. They couldn't make the original meeting, but called timely to reschedule. The work was completed earlier than estimated, everything was cleaned up and the railing looks great. They did not try to pressure me to purchase a more expensive rail. The gentleman that came was very polite and professional, and answered all of my questions clearly.

They came out when they said they would. The person was real nice and informative.

I stopped in with the railing that was in need of repair without having made an appointment. They gave me a price and a date to pick up. It ended up taking a couple of extra days, but I had told them it wasn't urgent, so this was no problem at all.

We had a series of break ins at our property, and decided to get some bars installed on our windows. The other members of our condo association did not want them put outside, so the owner of Sommerville Ornamental Iron Works came and designed some bars that would fit inside the windows, including a curved bay window. He is a charming old Italian guy that's been doing this for many years, and his experience shows. I had some ideas about what I wanted, and he showed me a couple designs and pushed fairly hard for some things I wasn't sure about, but in the end I think he was right. The ornamental flares go a long way to making the bars actually look good, rather than like the inside of a prison. The price he quoted was about $1000 cheaper than the others (I had talked to two other companies), and the work was done in about 2 weeks. Installation was incredibly fast (about 90 minutes for 9 windows), and they took the time to carefully inspect the bars and paint over spots that had been scuffed during transport and installation (our bars were white). The installation is durable and and looks good too.

They came by to look at the job and gave me an estimate in my mailbox. They set up proper expectations and lived up to every one of them. I am very pleased with them.

Update: a pickup was promised, but the driver didn't show up and no one called; as work wasn't performed, the Angie's List customer service people cannot help. We're looking for another service provider. This report should be filed under Metal Fabrication and Restoration.

My interaction with them was fine. Their estimate was for $1800. I went with another company which was cheaper than them. I would use them for another quote in the future.

They came out when they said they would. He was a very nice man. My husband dealt with him and was very pleased with the entire job. We would definitely use him again. I would highly recommend him.

I emailed them on a Friday afternoon asking for an estimate, they replied nearly immediately, and the owner came out the very next morning to look at the job. Scheduling for this meeting was a little loose: the person on the email said "Monday, possibly tomorrow". This is a wide window and I wasn't actually available when the owner called ready to come over, but he was willing to come by 2 hours later. The owner came, measured the stoop, and showed me some pictures of different railing styles. I chose a simple yet attractive standard style, he calculated the price, it was in the general range I was expecting, and I agreed to it on the spot. He asked for a 1/3 deposit. He told me the railings would be installed "by the end of next week" (his English was a little hard to understand and I couldn't get him to clarify what "next week" meant -- it's an ambiguous term if you say it on a weekend -- so I just asked him to make sure to call me in advance the day the crew was going to show up). Six days later he called, and an hour later two guys showed up with the railings. The railings were fabricated in their shop, they just needed to install them. They needed electricity and a hose spigot, though it's possible they could have gotten by with water from a sink. They unscrewed the old railings from the house and cut the posts off flush with the stoop. They might have ground down the stubs too; you can barely see them. They drilled holes in the brick stoop and set the new railings' posts into the holes with cement, and screwed the railings to the house. Finally they touched up the railings' black paint in a couple places where it had chipped during the transportation and installation process. The installation took around 2 hours. Total time from initial contact to project completion was 7 days. Amazing. The railings look great. The owner and workers were all pleasant to deal with. I wish every project could go this smoothly.

Tony stopped by the day after we called. His price was much lower than the other quote we got from a competitor. They installed the railing two weeks later. The installers were friendly and the railing feels nice and sturdy. We are happy with the outcome.

We were extremely happy with the process and finished product. We visited Tony's shop and looked through many catalogs in order to design the details of the railing. Tony drew a rough sketch, we refined it, then placed the order. They installed it in a few hours. Prompt and committed throughout, and the finished product was very high quality. The only challenge we had was Tony can be a little difficult to communicate with (strong accent), but he made up for it and more with personality, dedication, and skill.

They were prompt, helpful, and professional but they didn't give me the best price so I didn't choose them.

The work and the results are excellent. Tony came to give us an estimate, on time, as planned. We discussed several options since we were looking beyond the standard railings. He measured precisely the dimensions of the steps and landing, in order to build the railings at the factory. He showed us a catalog of choices and was able to match exactly the design we wanted and had found in a magazine. Few days later, Tony, on his own and without us requesting, called and came to the house to show us the actual pieces he would use to build the railing, to ensure we would be happy with the design. When it was time to do the job, they came on the day and time agreed upon, finished the job cleanly. The railing is superb. Only slight draw back is that upon very close inspection (i.e. the kind where you put your nose against the surface) the paint is starting to chip (4 months after install), but nothing that few drops of paint won't fix.
