Even though busy he made time to come immediately and resolved the issues quickly and efficiently. 5 stars and high marks for this company. Jimmy answered our call right away and came out the very next day- he even called to apologize for not making it out the same day. He got the breaker fixed in a few minutes and fixed a light switch that wasn't working properly for no extra charge. He also gave some advice about replacing lightbulbs to make our dimmers work correctly. I would recommend Jimmy to anyone looking for fast and reliable electrical work!

He also strongly encouraged us to use the special dimmer recommended for "dimmable" LED bulbs, installing the one I had bought in case it was needed. He well deserves his Angie's "Super Service" award.
Description of Work: After making an innocent (but classic!) mistake in trying to hang a new chandelier in our dining room, I needed professional help to get the job done. Hint: Do not install the metal crossbar in the ceiling box before trying to hang the chandelier from it!

He and his employees are courteous, professional, and go out of their way to do a good job. Our house is old, and it has proven to be kind of a challenge to deal with. I had purchased wall timers that wouldn't work with our old wiring. Jim looked in his van and actually had ones that would work instead. He's still helping me to figure out a problem with one circuit in our fuse box. JDO Electric has been cost conscious and reasonably priced, especially considering the extra effort that they put into trying to troubleshoot our house's electrical problems. Great service!

+ 4 moreWe love Jimmy for a number of reasons: he comes when he says he will, he does excellent work, the home inspector is happy with his work, his prices are fair, he listens to what I say I want and tells me the pros and cons of each option, he asks me questions about things I never thought to ask him about (would you like the lighting to go down or up?), in short, he is our ‘forever electrician”.
Description of Work: We’ve used Jimmy three times. The first was when he responded to our request to do the wiring for stage 1 of an extensive “back of house remodel” (we chose him based on his Angies List review). We liked him so hired him to do the whole electrical for “back of house remodel” which involved replacing rusting wires leading illegal junction boxes tucked away in the ceiling plus wiring two new bathrooms (electrical was $6000+ on 62,000 project). A year later, we hired Jimmy and his assistant Chico back to finish a basement, involving a new meter, new electricity panel, and new wiring to a new kitchen, bathroom, heating, lighting, etc for a luxury 1-bedroom apartment (electrical was around $15,000 on a $100,000 remodel).

+ -1 moreElectrical connection between wall switch and light successfully and expeditiously carried out with a no-nonsense approach and no surprise costs.
Description of Work: We called SIX electricians for a problem with a kitchen ceiling light. Only ONE responded to our call: Jimmy at JDO in Somerville. He promised a next-available appointment (worked us into his busy schedule), which was less than one day after our call, and he arrived on time and carried out the repair perfectly with the utmost of professionalism and expertise, in less than one hour. Cannot recommend him and JDO highly enough. As for the other 5 - not sure they are worthy of an Angie's List posting. Returning calls is the least a serious contractor should know to do.

Description of Work: Installed new outlets in the kitchen counter and island (8, each with GFI). Rewired my dish washer power (so it had its on circuit IAW code). Installed a separate line in the basement for my French drain sump pumps. Checked my refrigerator power outlet so it was correct.

+ 0 moreWe first called JDO when we lost power to a sector of our house, and we were grateful that he was able to squeeze us in the next day. He restored the power and we took the opportunity to ask him to schedule some more work we needed done: replacing an outdated fire alarm system, replacing a broken lighting fixture, and correcting some wiring problems (including one he discovered when fixing our power problem). Jim and an assistant came the next week and completed all the work, including giving us a thorough briefing on all of the features of the new fire alarms. They were absolutely professional and punctual and a pleasure to work with!
