They came over to do an estimate and some measuring, and they also took pictures. When we met up later, I saw that they?d measured the wrong door. They eventually came out to measure the correct door, but they told me that they couldn?t do work because there was some rot on the frame. It struck me as strange, because I felt that they should be able to fix that type of issue with the frame. The plant department gets an A!
Description of Work: I contacted home depot for some work that needed to be done on my door.

Very helpful in helping decide what product would be best for my needs, and cut it to length at no charge. My in-store experiences at the Assembly Mall Home Depot have been uniformly positive. I will note that if you have something delivered and installed (e.g., carpet, appliances) the people doing installation are generally outside contractors, and the quality varies hugely.

The service turned out well, but collaborating, and getting it together from one place to another was a challenge. The person who came out to do the measurements and look at the windows was very knowledgeable about different kinds of windows, and how windows feel, he had clearly been in the construction business. He was not just a salesman. When it came time for the installer, he was trying to come at a different time than what we had said, and essentially took the position of this is how we do it. I had to push back. When he got here, he took down the drapes and was trying to get out of putting the drapes back, because the wood needed painting. In one window, he broke the holders that hold the blinds. I didn't know he had broken them, it was the tenant who told me. Their services have become low. I one time ordered a new toilet from Home Depot. I called them, they couldn't find my number because they had the wrong number. I went to them, and found a person who felt that didn't make sense, and she went to the back, and she had to go out of her way. She said they didn't call me because they had my phone number wrong, and then the one that came in was broken and they had to order another one. They called me when they had the replacement, and I said that it was going to snow and so I asked if we could pick it up on Monday, and they said that if I didn't pick it up, they wouldn't hold it. There was that rudeness. I had such problems with Home Depot in that area. If you special order something, they are just not that helpful.

Wow--it went great. We went with Home Depot because they were absolutely the most affordable option. We had one contractor suggest the job would take $50,000 and three months. Home Depot and their contractors, RJ Construction, did it in less than four weeks for $25,000. They were also recommended as high quality for an affordable price by a friend who is an architect. Richard (Richie) Madison is the owner of RJ Construction and his firm has had an exclusive contract with about 9 Boston-metro area Home Depots for about 20 years now; this includes the Somerville store, Waltham, and others. There is a reason why he obtained and kept this contract: he and his sons and other employees do great, professional work, fast. I could not find the in Angie's List or I'd review their individual entry too. They also bring in a team of electricians and plumbers they have worked with for years, and they are just as reliable. Plus, I found them all to be friendly, polite, responsible and responsive. They called me when they ran into unforeseen issues to get my approval on going ahead--for example, when they discovered that the upstairs bathroom plumbing had been leaking into the kitchen ceiling and walls for YEARS. They also accommodated my and quot;Hey, since you are here...and quot; requests with positive attitudes and did all the other little things I asked them to do, like take out a light fixture in a different room, remove an old dryer in the basement, oh and while they were tearing apart the kitchen could they just do the powder room too? Not a problem. One thing I asked them that was more complicated then it looked: to move the switches for the bathroom to be inside the bathroom, rather than on an outside wall. That required redoing that electrical; switching the bathroom door so it opened on the other side; moving the door to a built in cabinet to the new wall, which meant breaking into the wall...hard to explain without pictures but they did EVERYTHING I asked, and it looked great, too. The ONLY issue I had was ONCE I wanted Richie to respond to an email about possible range hoods and he didn't write back. I'd say he is 100% reliable on the phone (we had many 7:30 am conversations) but email is not his thing. If there was one thing I would suggest avoiding when working with Boston area Home Depots, it is the granite company they contract with, International Stone. Everything about them was bad: the timing, their customer service, their speed. Well, I guess their product ended up being fine but that was because Richie's guys fixed their installation mistakes after the fact (not level, not caulked/grouted along wall, etc). I also appreciated Arlene, the Home Deport customer specialist, who got on International Stone's case when I told her I was about to switch to a new company. With her help I was able to make our wait time for countertops and a working sink go from three weeks to one week. I have two very young children and four weeks without a fully functioning kitchen was not as bad as it could have been, because the Home Depot team did everything so fast and so respectfully. I was really, really impressed.
Description of Work: Full kitchen renovation and powder room upgrade, including widening doorways, taking out part of a wall, moving all appliances, replacing all cabinets, countertops, and flooring, and upgrading electrical and plumbing.

They quoted me almost $4000. They have been incredible. There is a woman named Margret Reed at the helpdesk who was very clear and attentive. She showed us all the different options and explained them very carefully to us. Then they immediately scheduled a person to come in and give an estimate. They did the measuring, I had some questions, and they followed up on them and readjusted their quote based upon my questions. I had a negative experience with another company and Home Depot experience was much better.

It was difficult to reach them and brought multiple contractors in multiple times. It took three months to get someone in to do the work. Once someone did do the work it was done in one day. They were clean and had the plumbing inspector inspect it when they were done. They did make some mistakes but I was appreciative that they fixed what they had done wrong.
Description of Work: They installed a plumbing vent for the kitchen sink and linked in with the second floor. They installed anti-tip measure on the oven and gas line protection. They also did basic cleanup of mistakes they made.

I SHOP AT HOME DEPOT SOMETIMES, BECAUSE OF THEIR PRICE. HOWEVER, EVERY TIME IT IS AN ORDEAL. FINDING SOMEONE TO HELP A CUSTOMER AT HOME DEPOT IS LIKE HUNTING FOR A WHITE ELEPHANT OR A GHOST. IT TOOK ME 2 HOURS TO ORDER SOME BASIC CARPET. CONSIDERING EVERYTHING, THE LOWER PRICE IS JUST NOT WORTH IT.
