I am a sole proprietor; Fine interior painting using the finest paints available.
I have been in business for 25 years. Many years ago I started learning the restoration process
of interior surfaces of very old homes on Cape Cod. Then, I became interested in specialty finishes. As in Decorative finishing: stencilling, woodgraining, distressing, marbling.
I specialize in woodwork and cabinetry finishes; from straight painting to custom finishes.
This painter was selected due to her extensive experience with finish painting, specifically with Fine Paints of Europe and Christopher Peacock Cabinetry. At first she arrived on time, communicated well and did very good work. As time progressed, there was a noticable lapse in her attention to detail and interest in our project. She did not caulk areas that required it leaving the finished product with cracking paint. She inadvertently gouged a cherry kitchen cabinet door, the unsightly damage to the door causing us great inconvenience as well as a loss of time and money. She then scraped windows to remove paint using the pointed end of the razor, instead of the flat, thus scratching the windows severely. They need to be replaced when the weather improves by the window company. She primed and painted a ceiling and left roller marks due to using a dry roller instead of a fresh roller. Despite asking her not to sand the ceiling intensely between coats of paint, she did so with abandon. Much of the work she did has to be redone. We have lost both time and a significant amount of money. I am filing this report with the hope that someone else is spared the disappointment of the work of this painter.
Description of Work: There were numerous areas of our house to be painted. We asked this painter to begin by priming newly installed wood moldings throughout the house. Then we moved onto painting windows, walls and trim in a sun room and a master bathroom. Finally, we asked that the kitchen ceiling be painted in order to finish painting the molding around the perimieter of the kitchen ceiling. Due to the variety of the work we established an hourly rate for the work to be performed. We thought the rate to be very high, but she insisted that her 25 years of finish painting experience warranted her high rate.

Response from Kathryn M Piscuskas
Well, this is certainly a very unfortunate review! Hopefully, I can redeem some of my reputation. As this client has passed away since this review I will certainly not say anything to disparage her other than there are always two sides to every story. There were a few things that I would have liked to have done better, however. In retrospect there is always something we can learn from every situation. BUT, I will stand by the work I did. I am very detail oriented and was only trying to do the most thorough work. I was diligent in every area I worked on. The client seemed very happy about this. The client was not happy with many aspects of the construction of the house or of the previous subcontractors. I tried to be helpful and rectify some of the issues she had. There were many issues with the sunroom as well as the master bathroom. All were rectified by the work I did. The Kitchen ceiling was quite a chore and I did promote the idea of a drywall specialist for the cracking. She did not want to bother. I have painted many ceilings and walls over the years and have not had any problems. I know I re-painted that ceiling a few times without charging the client. As to the windows, I certainly regret any damage done by me. I believe there was previous damage as well. My last paycheck went to helping with the expense of the repairs. For quite awhile on this project I could do no wrong and then I could do nothing right. So, I have moved on and continue to strive to do the best work I can.
